A true icon.

Also, it's interesting that the last RSotD was a Castle set too.

It's never safe to be downrange of someone with a bow and arrow, no matter how good their aim or how out of the way you are. That guy in the vines is taking a big risk.

By in Australia,

This original is much better than the GWP.

I wish Icons got smaller Castle sets like this. Ones I could buy for some gold coins instead of $100 green bills.

for being a hideout, this place kinda sticks out like a sore thumb....

You’d also expect a few more MEN, with a name like that.

Proper legendary set. It's difficult to top Forestmen in terms of Pure LEGO Nostalgia.

By in United States,

Just saw the revised version of this set in a B&M store today. As a kid, I had this and the river fortress. I tried to buy the river crossing with my own money, but was forbidden because I was "too old". What I really wanted, though, was the Camouflaged Outpost. I was eventually able to buy an updated Blacktron Renegade, so I hope they eventually give that set the same treatment.

By in Canada,

From jousting to archery...and not that I'm complaining, wonder what we'll get tomorrow: SPACE or western, or...who knows, I feel like it's going to be interesting over the next while.:)

By in United States,

I am very pleased to own both this and 40567. Speaking of...

40567 has two major advantages on this. First, the internal ladder. Second, the "gold" in 40567's treasure barrel is actually gold-colored. Overall, I think re re-imagining is the superior set, but I do wish that the pieces for my copy of the original weren't sorted int organizers that are in storage. It'd be cool to display the two side-by-side.

Another Castle classic! Always wanted this one as a kid, to add it to my 6066 Camouflaged Outpost.

And 910001-1 is bestest!

By in United States,

I can’t remember if my brother had this, but I know he had the River Crossing set because I got the baseplate back from my cousin. Those forestmen were so cool. We loved them as kids.

By in United Kingdom,

Not sure how well you’re fitting the “hiding” part of hideout if you’re decorating the exterior with your personal branding like that

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I like it's simplicity.

Yeah, I also was initially excited by the GWP, but eventually sold it and kept only the original

I’ve actually been downrange of a longbow demonstration and didn’t consider myself at risk but that’s because I was at the top of a tower at Warwick Castle while the archery butt was at the base. Had the archer aimed at me for some reason, I would have had plenty of time to duck behind the battlements. Arrows don’t travel as fast as you might imagine.

I have 40567 but not the original and also prefer the remake. The newer pieces especially the masonry bricks and the blue roof look better. I’m not nostalgic for the original - I was an adult but not an AFOL when it was released - which might explain my preference.

So that means 910043-1 is the bestest?

By in Netherlands,

Classic. It's weird how often I saw this one for sale ever since the remake dropped. It was very confusing, asceachbtime I had to take a closer look to see which one it was (they are quite different).

Gravatar
By in France,

One of my favorite items in my collection, kept from my childhood!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

wonderful memories.
Never Had this set but would play at friends house.
I had more City Sets at the time and just started with Lego. Also I remember specifically not wishing for the same sets that my neighbors kids and friends had so we could expand our world together.

Blue is such a great colour for blending into a forest.

That's an update for 6079-1 and also very good, if not dark.

By in Japan,

My friend told me that he has this very set at his parents house's attic and he'll happily give it to me for free! Only thing now is to wait when he next goes back to Blighty to visit.....but i know it's well worth the wait! My 6021 and 6026 can wait somewhere else til then while they hide from 7090

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've just remembered the first time I saw this. I was over at a friend's house, and he had it. I didn't pay much attention to it, because he also had 6085, which made me extremely jealous. (He also had the priginal Optimus Prime.) He later game my my own copy of this for my birthday.

Looks more like a nod to 6071 to me

Two swinging vines, 2 different sized little trees, 2 different minifigs (with different torsos, hats, and feathers), 3 spears - I like this one better than 40567!

The remake is a great successor but has 2 flaws.
Only one torso print
No green whips, it's still being produced: https://brickset.com/parts/design-2488 so I don't understand them missing

Very nice set with an amazing remake. Lego needs to do more reimagined sets of classic Lego themes

By in Germany,

I never understood why this set is considered an icon, let alone "legendary". This was around when I was a kid, and none of my friends had it, nor was any of them interested in the forestmen theme. Castle, yes. Space, absolutely. But this apparently went under the radar.
I recently saw a retro review of it, and it doesn't appear to have been a particularly outstanding set at all.

So, honest question, why is it so highly regarded by some?

Robin hood;)
The outlaw and hideout part worked for me

If you consider the single-piece molded trees to be mature specimens, then this must be an old-growth tree that's too high to make out any details from the forest floor.

@AustinPowers:
Firstly, I can't speak for the rest of the world, but in the US it probably helps that we overthrew the yoke of one of the powers that built castles in Europe. At the time, this was also the size of what I could expect to receive for a birthday present, or a secondary Christmas present, while anything larger would be reserved for Christmas. Like the Invader from Blacktron, this was probably not the most desired of its subtheme, but was probably the most commonly owned.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@watcher21: I definitely agree that one way in which 40567 falls short is that it has no vines.

Are the legends of Robin Hood less popular in Germany than in English-speaking countries?

The Forestmen looked great, and they were the antagonists to my knights. It wasn't until much later in life that I finally registered that there were different factions of knights in Lego Castle which were intended to oppose each other. I'm guessing if I'd grown up in Europe where heraldry was more pervasive, it wouldn't have taken me so long to figure it out.

This set also had a lot of leaves and vines, which were rare at the time. The printed target and stag shields were also parts I held in great value.

I also failed to register this thing as a tree for most of my life. I still don't see it as a tree, in fact. It still looks like a guard tower that's been camouflaged with vegetation.
