Quick look: 42643 Candyfloss Stand and Scooter

Posted by ,

One of the smaller Friends sets of this wave is 42643 Candyfloss Stand and Scooter - perhaps as a companion piece to 42649 Heartlake City Sweet Shop. Like 42649, this set has a slightly different name on the box than on the database.

I was surprised when the box I received had a set name that included the word candyfloss, as I know that's the term used in the UK for cotton candy. However, the database has the set listed as Cotton Candy Stand, but I rather like the term candyfloss better!

Summary

42643 Cotton Candy Stand and Scooter, 110 pieces.
£8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 | 8.2p/9.1c/9.1c per piece.

A pocket money companion to 42649 Heartlake City Sweet Shop

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

Inside the box there are three numbered bags, an instruction booklet and a solitary sticker.

Two minidolls are featured in this set - Jamila, and Liann from the regular Friends crew. I suppose it's not a surprise that Liann is here as she loves snacks so much.

Like the sweet shop, the candyfloss stand has a brick built mascot. Surprisingly, the face on the mascot is a printed piece.

The scooter connects to the stand in a pretty straightforward way. The solitary sticker in the set is put to good use advertising the price of the candyfloss. The stand is a very suitable pink, and the blue and white awning complements the pink nicely.

The side of the stand shows two cones of candyfloss ready for sale.

The other side shows flavourings, and the customer counter has a payment method and a coin (so I guess it takes cash as well?)

Of course, where there's food, there's always hangers-on)

(Note: hanger-on sloth not included in the set.)

Whether as a companion set to the sweet shop or not, this is a nice little set for an impulse price.

Wow, that scooter must have some serious power to be able to move that massive stand.

That's interesting about the name on the box. The UK version does indeed have the 'proper' name on it :-)

Cotton candy beehives are very eye catching elements, and I'm definitely a fan of the light blue scooter.
Thanks for the review!

"Surprisingly, the face on the mascot is a printed piece." Not surprising at all. Lego never requires stickers to be applied to compound curves like that. Also, am I the only one who thinks that it'd be funny to have 71026-13 at the stand?

The stand doesn’t seem to include the apparatus needed to actually make candy floss, which could have made for an interesting model.

Spare a thought for the poor cyclist in 41444 as well. Having to keep the smoothies and blender from spilling must be a nightmare. And there's no steering!

I’d like to see someone try to floss with cotton candy.

It would be like catching the wind with a butterfly net.

Wait a minute; that "mascot" looks a whole lot like the green "plant aliens" that were discovered throughout last year's intertheme space exploration. So have they "evolved" to a pink color, two eyes, and grown arms and learned to levitate? Or has one of them allowed itself to be face-painted pink and stuck into the top of a display stand? Is this an infiltrator or a volunteer? Or something else entirely? I want to hear offbeat headcanons that address this storyline integration potential!

Yet again we have a "mascot" that cannot possibly be a real person inside.

My theory: Friends is set in the same universe as BERSERK. Griffith has been reincarnated as the Hawk of the Light and the border that separates the astral plane from the living world is thinning. Humanity's dreams and nightmares are slowly being made manifest in the waking world.

This Cotton Candy Man is clearly a denizen of Qlipholth, and I fear what he portends.

Also LEGO scooters really have a high hauling capacity for their size.

They must be from the same planet as ice cream and chocolate bar from 70822 Unikitty's Sweetest Friends EVER! , along with the bubble tea variant from 41733 Mobile Bubble Tea Shop

This would fit very nicely in my food truck park.

To a Dane it’s not all that impropable. The classic hotdog “stands” are motorized. The link is a clip from Danish national treasure movie franchise (before they were a thing!) “Olsen Banden.”

The only thing I’m lukewarm on is the torso of the mascot. There’s a lot to like in this sweet little set!

41733 Mobile Bubble Tea Shop used an even smaller e-scooter type of vehicle to pull it , while at the same time, the stand was 50% wider (6 stud vs 4) .

True, that looks even crazier. Didn't know that set so far.
