Erm, well akshually, it flew after that, it's flying now even.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well I wouldn't say Final. That thing's had a final flight like 10 times.

Gravatar
By in United States,

In reality it's like the 7th flight among the 6 different destiny's bounty of where there were tons.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Well, it WAS the Bounty's final flight in Possession, shortly before a possessed Lloyd singlehandedly took it down

Yeah. It started to get annoying after like the 5th time it got destroyed.

I don't know anything about any of this, but the 2 little yellow "Slimer" dudes attacking with dynamite and a BANANA, are cracking me up! This set looks bonkers, in a great way.

Two Sets called Final Flight. (This and a 4+ set)
9 sets with the Tag Destiny's Bounty, One of which is Ninjago City Gardens, which does not have a large Destiny's Bounty, just a miniature model.

Of the six released after this, 71705 is a remake of the original and 71749 is a 4+ version of 70738, so they don't count as being after in the story timeline. 70618 is from the Lego Ninjago Movie so is also not part of the timeline. 70677 is the Land Bounty so not a flight. 71756 is the Hydro Bounty, so also not a flight. 71797 is the only flight of the Destiny's Bounty since it's supposed 'Final Flight'.

So at least in Lego Models they did pretty good job of making it Final. Lasting all the way up to the Dragons Rising Reboot.

Someone who has actually watched the series can let me know if gets brought back in the show before then.

These guys should compare notes with Vin Diesel sometime.

I don't think it was final. Just like every supposedly final season of Ninjago is never actually the final season, somehow

Interesting that 70738 is the last flying Bounty set that aligns with the show until 2023, I hadn't realized that. I would say that, canonically, this set represents(-ish) the crash scene of the original Destiny's Bounty, but I don't think this is even the original one.

The first Destiny's Bounty (represented by 9446) got munched by the Great Devourer at the end of Season 1, before Garmadon brought it back in Season 2. It then crashed on the Dark Island after tanking a hit from Garmatron. I don't think the show ever shows them going back for it, and I don't recall them having it during Rebooted or ToE (hence 70750 from the other day), it just magically reappears during Possession (this set, 70738), before getting destroyed by Morro.

Technically, though, this IS the final flight of the original(-ish) Destiny's Bounty. The Ninja get a new one in Season 8 that just so happens to be a carbon-copy of 70618 - one of the many irritating ports/resurrections made from the Ninjago Movie to the show. That newer Bounty survived through Season 10, but after that I believe it was mostly forgotten in favor of different "tech-y" vehicles (70677, 71756).

After the Dragons Rising reboot, it was brought back (hence 71797). I stopped watching the show midway through Dragons Rising season 1, so can't speak to whether the newest Destiny's Bounty still flies. Judging from 71848... nope (again).

the season 8 bounty actually isnt a carbon copy of the movie design. it is based on the movie bounty, but has many small changes such as different colour back sails, a different piloting system, and an actual functional flight mode, which the movie design notably lacked for some reason

I always thought the name and the fact that it keeps coming back was part of the humor.
Destiny cannot be stopped.

By in Australia,

A great set!
I picked it up dirt-cheap 2nd hand, with the blue dragon, but without minifigs or the side build.
Looks beautiful and has a nice action feature!

Not going by the show canon. This set doesn't really match up with any specific scenes, but it is definitely still in use after Morro has stopped possessing Lloyd. And this version of the Bounty remained in use up through Hands of Time.

It even had several sets that were called exactly that.
It's kind of the Wile E. Coyote of Ninjago vehicles.

(And no, I have never seen a single episode of the show, nor am I ever going to).

So much to like here, the ship, the bike, the minifigures... Oh man, every single year I feel like I'm missing a lot. I know I'm gonna regret it but I'll probably not gonna get 71847 The Guardian Dragon, this year.

Perhaps they're referring to the final flight of your cash from your wallet until you reach insolvency?

It was actually mentioned at the start of Season 4: Tournament of Elements, where Garmadon asks Nya if she is planning to fix the Destiny's Bounty. This specific iteration of the Destiny's Bounty would later on appear in the season's finale episode The Corridor of Elders, and would be in service until Season 7, Episode 70 - The Attack, where it is shot down by Vermillion warriors, thus making that episode the actual final flight of this iteration of the Destiny's Bounty. (Though, Kai and Nya would at least try to use the crashed ship's scanners in the following episode.)

It's assumed that between the events of Season 7 and Season 8, the Ninja team would build a new iteration of the Destiny's Bounty, which was in service between the events of Season 8 - Sons of Garmadon to Ninjago Dragons Rising Season 1.

I will also mention that in the finale of The LEGO Ninjago Movie, the movie does poke fun at the tendency of the Destiny's Bounty to get shot down, with one of Garmadon's Shark Generals cheering at the prospect of shooting it down. (Though the Destiny's Bounty does survive the events of the film.)

By in Netherlands,

A plain old good set. With a boatload of stuff in it.

It's huge, but looks sleeker than ever compared to the 2012 version, with a good sense of is own style.
Moreover, it's packed with playfeatures. The storage cages at the front, the triple canons with a single trigger, the foldout flying bike garage and the sliding platform at the back that has a rotating hook missile turret. And I recall that even the roof hid the bike garage so it still had an interior in the actual cabin. Not to mention the new and improved folding sail configuration that now moves out to form a wing like structure from four plastic sheets. Oh, and that dragon alone is quite substantial and even has chain reins. And the minifigs are generous with a full cast.

This set was big and expensive. But it made sure that you really got a LOT for it. Today this sometimes nets you a single thing with some movement and some figs. But these playfeatures really elevate the model. I miss creative action features like these.

That said, it's kind of a shame that the possession range had a pretty high bar of entry in terms of set size, and the sets were heavily skewed towards the larger sizes, as it started at 20,- (outside a hard to find polybag). In hindsight it was ahead of the curve in that sense. But back then we had the TOE wave from earlier that year that had multiple small affordable sets below 20 euro. So it was more understandable back then.

Oh, and black chest! I never noticed that before!

Also the season 8 Bounty was destroyed by the Oni Titan at the same time as some of the ninja, plus Wu (who was a toddler at that time) were inside, but they drank Traveller's Tea and managed to escape to the First Land (aka the Realm of the Oni and the Dragon). I think the Bounty was then rebuilt at the end of season after the dragons took the Ninja (minus Nya and Lloyd, who never left Ninjago City) back to their home realm.

Because they’re made out of wood? LEGO comes full circle.
