Random set of the day: Fire Copter 1
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6685 Fire Copter 1, released during 1982. It's one of 10 Town sets produced that year. It contains 99 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 3,767 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $161.30, or eBay.

Fire copter 2 was better tbh
My brother had this, and I don't think I've encountered that same style of hose ever since.
When you sort with the tag "Fire Helicopter" this is the first result by year, so I guess it is Fire Copter 1, they were not lying.
Lego should bring back that inverted windshield piece.
A bit blocky but decent enough

It got used in +10 other sets like 4025
I love these vintage sets!

And that helicopter was the sole Fire set that either of us ever owned, so that probably rules out a lot of possibilities. However, I may have misspoke. I got some thin-walled brown hose to use as belts on my Bionicle Ninja Turtles, and it might possibly be the same style as this. It's hard to say, without comparing them side-by-side, as I think I've encountered at least half a dozen different types of 3-4mm hose over the years.
No one has said this yet, so I will:
HELIKOPTER, HELIKOPTER!!
I was just looking at 6531 from my own collection, a not so distant relative. I think I prefer this more beefy older version, especially with the lights.
Love the blockiness of it!
It's chunky and angular. But not bad, considering that it fits a minifig when that was still relatively new. And there's some fun details, such as the joysticks in the cockpit, the hoses actually leading to a water tank and the lights on the sides.
That said... the helicopters after this improved upon it a LOT. Mainly in the compactness of the cockpit and therefore the entire height of the vessel being less stretched out.
I had an extra inverted windshield and has couple of TV station printed 2x2 tiles, so I built an TV station helicopter in this style. Having born in 70's, no need to say I love this style.
Called Fire Copter because of all the firepower it’s loaded with! Kid me would definitely have pretended those hoses on the skids and exhausts under the rotors were some kind of laser cannons
You can’t imagine the impact that new inverted windshield had on me back in 1982. I had the Fire Station 6382 from the year before, and this swooshable helicopter came flying in at just the right time. Lots of good memories.

Exactly the same with me.
I liked the way the windshield opened to access the mini-fig, which I copied in many spaceships. Useful set of basic bricks and plates for other builds before the landing skis, cockpit, rear fuselage etc. where juniorised into single pieces.
Very nice design - always wanted this one, finally got one off eBay.
Goes very nicely with the 4025 Fire-Fighting Boat.
Can't say I'm a fan of the Fire sets that came out later (1985 onwards), except the 6480 Light & Sound truck. Lost some of the chunky appeal of the earliest Town sets.
At least until the 7945 Fire Station in 2007, with it's very nice Snorkel Fire Engine; bright red with white and yellow highlights.
I thought there were a lot of fire helicopters, but I didn't expect 47 sets to be tagged with it. That does include sets that aren't just a fire helicopter, but that's a lot. Until I see that there are 99 sets tagged with "Police Helicopter." It's surprising that there aren't more collisions with such crowded airspace!

On the plus side, this is a rare LEGO helicopter where you don’t risk decapitation when you exit the cockpit. On the other hand, you do frequently get showered with broken glass and metal shards.
While not my favorite copter design (of 'this era': 645: Police Helicopter), overall: 7067 Jet-Copter Encounter), still: liked the firehose set-up, miss those propeller/props (both top and tail rotor) and connectors there to. Only things I don't like: the front windscreen's 'flip-open' is just wrong. Also not crazy about how high up the top rotor, it creates a weird profile...just me?:)
Another member of Team 6382 who also had one of these. Loved it as a kid.
