The start of City's golden era.
Well I don't know what kind of gunk that is on the ground, but I'm pretty sure you can't recycle it. For a recycling thing, you need a bunch of white and tan tiles to represent paper and cardboard, and then for this time period, a number of different translucent colored 1x1 cylinders and cones for bottles. Similarly, light gray 1x1 cylinders could be cans, but they might also just read as rocks. The 1x1 studs on the ground is just a bunch of mush, it's too far gone.

What are you talking about? You can recycle ABS. Whey you'd want to throw out perfectly good Duplo bricks, I couldn't begin to guess, however.

Those are cans that somebody flattened.
18 years ago? City is 18 years old?! I’ve had this set for 18 years!?!
Great set, good times, and WOW
This and the cement mixer were a major step in City vehicl design. The use of stoplight bricks to make a SNOT vehicle front that also allows for side mirrors was a major innovation. And in this set the working tipping function and opening back was something exciting that hadn't been seen since the early 90s. But it also made use of more basic bricls than ever!
Overall a great set. Both back then and today.

City became 20 years old this year, actually.
The ride never ends.
Recycle the truck into what?
Amazing what 206 pieces can do!
This era was the second golden era of Lego after the 80s/90s period.
So nostalgic! I didn't have this one, but I ended up using my own parts to build a replica in white (since I didn't have orange). This was also the year of one of my all time favourite sets: 7992
Knew a lot of friends owned this back in the day. Still think a lot of the new ones are better, but the nostalgia is enough
Classic
A terrific vehicle, my brother and I got this and the cement mixer 7990 as gifts at the same time and we loved the heck out of this charming pair.
Still needs a mechanism to lift the bin to empty into the truck back to make really cool, like the Lego Ideas version that made 10k votes but was ignored.

A big step forward for orange bricks too.
Keep on buying City sets from this era on vinted. A favorite being 4434 & also extending it to a 8 wheeler. This years construction sets 60420 & 60409 are also fantastic but the price difference over the years can be seen. Looking forward to 60466 bulldozer to be released!

I hadn't really noticed that this is another set whose name is a complete sentence. I love it when those pop up.

IMO the third year of golden era. A few months ago I gathered the parts and build this set again after years as one of my childhood sets. I have a huge sentimental attachment to it. No doubt it's a best recycle truck.
I don't own it, but I might have bought it if it wasn't for my dark ages. Around 200 pieces for a garbage truck is reasonable, but today, a designer wouldn't use less than 300.
More isn't always better.

That's packaging filler material, a mix of crumpled brown paper, shredded paper, those reconstituted cardboard egg-carton-like things that hold every component in place, and the cut and folded cardboard that does the same thing.

I use around 200 for a basic sedan. This would be 300 minimum, maybe 350-400. Sometimes more is the best. Mater (easily one of the most popular vehicles on our club layouts) is about 2/3rds this size with 378pcs.

As an AFOL/MOCer you can, of course, do whatever you want and add as many details as you want. But when you design a toy for kids, adding more details or (small) pieces results in diminishing returns: You don't get that much more garbage truck when you add a 1x1 plate here or a cheese wedge there. Nobody will notice it, but the price will rise and that's what at least parents will notice.
I got half of this set from a second hand lot. It took me a few years to complete it with necessary orange parts. And I don't even collect 6 stud vehicles.

"The orange colour is a bit weird to me, but then, recent events and recent years have really made me hate that particular colour.
Orange is the new bleak.
Other than that, this truck is fantastic. Still holds up perfectly well, in spite of its age."
I'm genuinely sorry that my country has created such a negative association (for myself, too) with a color that (I think) is so historically meaningful in your country. Despite that, it remains one of my favorite colors, mainly because TGVs were my favorite train as a kid, and consequently this set and even more-so 10233 both hold special places in my heart.
Somewhere out there someone got this set with two bag 1s as I got a copy of the set with two bag 2s!
