[US and Canada] Selected BrickLink Designer Program sets to return!

LEGO has issued a brief notice regarding availability of some past BrickLink Designer Program sets in the US and Canada:

We’re excited to inform LEGO fans in the United States and Canada that a limited number of BrickLink Designer Program (BDP) sets from Series 1 and 2 will be available for sale on May 20, 2025, at 8 AM Pacific.

Sometimes we end up with a small number of additional BDP sets at the end of our production process—that’s the case with BDP Series 1 and 2. Inventory is very limited, so don’t wait if you want to get your hands on one of these rare fan-designed sets!

Visit shop.LEGO.com on the day of the sale to check availability.

I have no doubt some will be disappointed that this opportunity is limited to the US and Canada, but the few sets soon to be available are from cancelled pre-orders or extras produced as replacements for the North American market, hence the geographical restriction.

We do not yet know which sets will be available or their exact quantities, but we will remind you shortly before their release on the 20th. When they are available, purchases will be limited to one copy of each set.

This is the equivalent of when the Joker broke that pool stick and said “we’re gonna have tryouts” to his new goons.

Fight you fools, fight tooth and nail to get rare sets!

Haha but happy for those who missed it and can maybe get the set now. It’s just gonna be a rampage for sure

How does anyone have money for anything Lego is releasing these days? I can’t afford a car

There should be. I exchanged 2 of them because they arrived completely smashed by UPS. Actually, I kept one of the smashed ones because my gf wanted one for herself when she saw it lol

By in United States,

Excluding the "Sold Out" sets on Bricklink, the potential sets up for grabs are:

Series 1: Parisian Street & General Store
Series 2: Logging Railway, Ominous Isle, & The Ocean House

There may be a few "Sold Out" sets available, but odds are that one is not likely to get them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Bummer was hoping they would have the BDP sets from 2023.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They should ship them all to Alaska and then do collection only, no reservations allowed.

I sell my older sets to replenish the Lego piggy bank.

I think the idea is these are cancelled ones and extras produced, so tge could include sold out ones too.

By in Sweden,

I don't need Ominous Isle, I don't need Ominous Isle, I don't need Ominous Isle...

By in United States,

This is simply shocking.

I've always wondered what they do with extra BLDP sets since we have the option to cancel and/or return throughout the process. But seeing as how they've never done this before, why would they do it now? And why so long after Series 1 and 2 last shipped? And why for only the North American market? Wouldn't there have been cancellations/returns for other markets as well? And if they were left holding the bag with way more than expected sets, are they going to change anything about BLDP going forward? I wonder how many sets were simply too much to write off?

All that being said, this is great news for anyone who missed out on these 2 series. The Old Train Engine Shed, Mushroom House, and Brick Cross Train Station are wonderful and the Mountain Fortress is absolutely fantastic. Maybe I should reconsider Ominous Isle and the General Store.

910029 - Mountain Fortress
910030 - Snack Shack
910031 - General Store
910032 - Parisian Street
910033 - Old Train Engine Shed
910034 - Brick Cross Train Station
910035 - Logging Railway
910036 - Ocean House
910037 - Mushroom House
910038 - Ominous Isle

By in Norway,

Wait, is this only for the US and Canada?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Every region lego sells in has rules on what information must be on the packaging. The most likely answer to why only the US/Canada is that the boxes they have right now are the ones for those markets. As to why they don't have them for other markets, no idea. Maybe it's a test run?

Gravatar

Ooof, it will be hard for me to pass up on Ominous Isle a second time…

The construction site is not parts of the current program, as it predates BDP. That original 2021 / 2022 invitational was only for rejected 10K Ideas submissions, and not part of the current numbered BDP series. See here for the instructions link LEGO put out for the Construction Site: https://www.bricklink.com/v3/designer-program/designer-sets-for-adult-fans-of-lego/215744/Modular-Construction-Site

FAQ:
How can I check if excess BrickLink Designer Program (BDP) sets are available?
You’ll receive a follow-up email the morning of May 20th to click on this link to the sale. Once you click that link, you’ll be able to select any of the sets listed and be taken to LEGO.com. You can also refresh the link provided in this email when the time comes to gain access to the sale. Once there, you can click on the sets you’re interested in and see if they are available.

Why are there excess BDP sets available, and how often does this happen?
The number of available sets consists of the limited quantity of cancelled orders and extra sets produced to replace lost and damaged shipments. We can only make these extra sets available when all pre-orders have been fulfilled.

Are BDP sets restocked after selling out?
Currently, there are no plans to produce additional sets after each series’ Crowdfunding period ends.

Who can purchase these excess BDP sets?
BrickLink members in the U.S. and Canada can purchase this very limited number of sets.
Is there a limit on how many sets can be purchased?
Yes, there is a limit. You can buy only one of each of the available sets.

Will excess BDP sets be available globally, or are they only available in the U.S. & Canada?
These very limited quantities are only available to members in the U.S. and Canada. This is because these excess sets were produced for the U.S. and Canadian markets.

I’m located in Europe—how can I purchase excess BDP sets?
If you are located in Europe, any excess BDP sets are sold exclusively through LEGO® House in Billund, DK, during Inside Tours and fan tours.

How do I place an order for an excess BDP set?
Click on the link in the email you receive the morning of the sale, then select any of the sets, and you’ll be taken to LEGO.com. Once there, you can add up to one of each available set to your cart and check out.

What payment methods are accepted for BDP sets?
LEGO.com accepts payment by credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, or PayPal. For more information, please visit the “Payment Methods” page on LEGO.com.

Will there be more excess sets from future BDP series?
Additional Series 3, 4, and 5 sets may become available in the future. If this happens, you will be notified via email.

Palmyra Atoll, Kingman Reef, and Jarvis Island are all uninhabited. American Samoa is most likely, but Midway Atoll is also a possibility. Or they could be using a satlink to log in from a US-flagged ship.

Granted, a lot of LEGO sets have become very expensive in recent years, but a car (at least a good one) is still more than the entire LEGO catalogue combined.
Wait, did you mean used car? OK, then maybe, but even the worst lemon is more expensive than even the most expensive LEGO set.

They work, they save, they prioritise spend for one hobby or lifestyle choice over another. There is also a huge range of prices, plenty of LEGO sets are under $20.

technically didn't they all sell out? I thought the way it worked is they only produced as many as were reserved with a max production of 30k or whatever their upper limit was or if they didn't get above a certain amount of preorders they wouldn't make any at all.

LEGO considers a set SOLD OUT when it hit the 30k. Once the Series Ordering Clock is up, then yes, technically they're all sold out.

Somewhat relatedly, I suspect the Series Ordering Clock will be moot for Series 5 as I'm anticipating all 5 sets to reach 30k and be SOLD OUT.

Gravatar

These are going to be extremely limited, so battle royale style. Thankfully I don't need any from series 1 or 2, so I'm all set.

First, no, these are only the ones that were produced for the NA market. For yours, you’re going to have to line up at LEGO House before the doors open.

Second, what the actual heck? One day and they got sent back? Did you try seeing if they could locate and reship them? I’m still pissed about the hardcover Ferrari book, which I was responsible and only ordered one copy of, only for them to blanket cancel all the orders because they foolishly didn’t set them to Limit 1 in time, but then anyone who ordered before the cancellations couldn’t add one to their cart because the previous order hadn’t been wiped clean from their ordering history. If they’d guffed an order for limited edition sets, I’d probably walk to Billund and start pounding on their door, which is no mean feat when there’s an entire ocean in the way.

@yellowcastle:
At least they haven’t (that I’m aware) been doing what they did with the Forma presales. I went in on the last day to add a few more skin packs to my order, only to find that they were almost all Sold Out. Except the quantity listed as Sold was way lower than the initial preorder limit had been, so they actually shrunk the pool before preorders closed.

They produce more than they need in case of losses or damages in Shipping. And they will also have returns and cancellations. So they have sets left over.

You get the lego house exclusives, don't act like this is a plight against you. This is leftovers, not a full production run. They are a for profit business first and foremost, so shipping the sets from NA to EU while selling them at the same price lowers their profit, hence illogical to do.

Or, if you love Lego of any sort try Ebay. The economy is down and sets or parts are selling cheap. I bought a whole lot of vintage sets 99% complete, about 7 LBS for $40 the other day.

Nice. Its funny really, vintage sets often get overlooked when sold mixed up but I've had some great sets that way. I got almost a whole Black Seas Barracuda for £10 as someone thought it was "probably some sort of ship" but didn't really know what it was.

Late reply from me, sorry.
Yes, it was shipped back one day after it arrived at the pick-up point. The pick-up point didn't want to keep all the parcels over during the holiday, and they said DPD would take all the parcels and redirect them. Instead, they just returned them to sender.
The TLG logistics knew where the parcel was, but it's something outside their procedure book to have a parcel shipped from another location than their warehouses (long live bureaucracy!). So nothing I could do...

That’s…weird. Presumably the box should have ended up back at the warehouse, at which point it should have been possible to reship it. Alternately, they should have been able to push your name to the top of the list for reshipment.

Yes, that's what I thought. But they said that it wouldn't be possible "for technical reasons".
