Review: 42645 Aliya's Baby Sister's Playroom, 42646 Autumn's Room, 42647 Paisley's Room

Posted by ,

Two years ago, an inexpensive way to get all eight of the then-new characters was to buy four of the Friends rooms. We've skipped a year, but we're back to seeing more of the Friends' rooms - specifically 42646 Autumn's Room and 42647 Paisley's Room. However, instead of featuring Olly's and Zac's rooms in a set (maybe next year?) the third addition to this set is 42645 Aliya's Baby Sister's Playroom.

Similar to the sets from two years ago, I decided to review them all together for comparative purposes.

Summary

42646 Autumn's Room, 222 pieces.
£17.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 | 8.1p/9.0c/9.0c per piece.
Buy at LEGO.com »

The Friends room series continues with two more Friends

  • Plenty of detail and personality for each
  • New baby minidoll is adorable
  • Moving functions in each set
  • What about Olly and Zac?

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

42645 Aliya's Baby Sister's Playroom

Aliya and Liann are getting together to take care of Aliya's baby sister, Amalia. We've seen these outfits on the minidolls before, and the new baby minidoll is just adorable. Amalia is dressed in a onesie that matches the colour scheme of her playroom.

There are many things for Amalia to keep busy with in her room, but the largest among them is a large ridable duck, complete with ball cap. It's the perfect size to rock back and forth!

The play room is brightly coloured. A flower piece has been put to interesting use as a mobile over the crib. A sticker provides detail for brightly coloured toys on shelves and the flashcard, and as the mouth of a friendly looking creature. I think it's a stretch to say it's a duck, but whatever it is, it has a slide down to the bright coloured carpet.

The largest toy in the playroom might be the rocking duck, but the coolest feature in the playroom is the ball pit. I'm not entirely sure how safe the ball pit is for a child that young, but I'm sure it's something that every child wants in their playroom! A beloved plushie has a home in the corner.

Amalia isn't the only one who loves the ball pit.

(Note: ball pit diving sloth not included in this set.)

42646 Autumn's Room

Autumn has Leo over for a visit. It's not surprising that this room has a green colour scheme as it highlights Autumn's love for animals and nature. It's quite similar to the themes we would see in sets featuring Autumn's mom, Mia.

All the Friends rooms sets have stickers - all about this size.

Autumn and Leo are the minidolls in this set, and the featured animal is Autumn's ferret, Bandit. I had originally thought this was the same ferret as we saw in 42663 Friendship Camper Van Adventure (when I mistook a ferret for an otter), but Bandit is a distinctly different colour (and has a mask, which likely suggests where the name comes from).

Bandit has a play structure all to themselves, with plenty of things to keep occupied, and most importantly, has food and water.

Autumn's room is on two tiers - a desk with lamp and thermos is under the bed, and a side table with a sunflower and a jar filled with fireflies are on the first level. There's a staircase that leads up to Autumn's bed, where there are a few more items stored.

There is a moving function in this set - it's not pictured, but the staircase swings open to show some of Autumn's treasures behind it, including a treasure map!

The outside of the set features a pretty bay window, and a second window has attracted a bird which is feasting on some sunflower seeds (a very safe choice of diet for the bird, unlike for a guinea pig).

42647 Paisley's Room

Paisley and Liann have plans to spend the day together! I originally thought that this was a sleepover, and I rather think that Paisley is wearing pyjamas with a heart print, but the set description doesn't mention it. Liann doesn't look like she's wearing pyjamas, but I really love the taco design on her shirt!

Both girls are equipped with paintbrushes.

And now we see why! They're learning to paint figurines while watching instructions from a tablet.

The rest of Paisley's room is filled with music-themed items. For this picture I've removed the keyboard and the guitar stand (they're seen in the picture above). A pair of headphones is beside the desk, and an old-fashioned record player is found next to Paisley's bed. Next to the window is a picture of who I'm assuming is Paisley's mom. Over Paisley's bed is a bulletin board with several photos attached - in particular I like the one featuring her with her grandparents, who we met in 42669 Beekeepers' House and Flower Garden.

Of course, there's a water dispenser for Melody, Paisley's bunny.

This set also has a moving function - the bed lifts up to show a hiding place where Paisley keeps her diary.

A much-loved plushie is also found above the bed. The plushie resonates with another denizen of Heartlake, who seems to think there's some similarity between them.

(Note: plushie-identifying sloth not included in this set.)

Overall thoughts

Like the previous Friends' rooms sets, these are great sets to introduce the characters (or their younger siblings). Paisley's and Autumn's sets are packed with details that give insight to their personalities. I like that we're introduced to a new pet of Autumn's and all the musical theming in Paisley's. Aliya's baby sister, Amalia, has a really luxe playroom, especially with that ball pit.

We now have rooms for six of the eight Friends. I'm waiting for Zac and Olly to get their room treatment!

These are fun sets to pick up, especially on sale, and particularly if you want to get your hands on one of those new plushie pieces.

I love these. Definitely an improvement compared to the older ones. The new rooms icluyde way more detail and are overall more cozy to me. But really, what about Olly and Zac?

By in Ireland,

I really like these smaller sets that are really packed with details. I had to get the two with the stuffed toys/plushes and the new baby.
I've also finally fallen for the subliminal sloth advertising in each of your reviews and ordered a sloth for myself from Bricklink!

These are great little sets; I particularly love the colour scheme for Autumn’s room, and the accessories that come with each room are brilliant.

By in Russian Federation,

Funny how some of the characters don't have pajamas and Paisley has two.

Are babies supposed to go in ball pits?

Never did I think I would call a $20 set overpriced... but WOW is 42645 overpriced. They probably could've taken out Liann and just made it a $10 or $15 set instead.

To me, the shirt that Liann is wearing in 42647 Paisley's Room looks more like Asian fried dumplings than tacos.

I kinda need to get that penguin plushie.

Thanks for the nice review!

I think the design on Liann's shirt is dumplings, not tacos (fitting with her Asian heritage).

These sets are really cute. I like the way these bedroom sets (and the previous ones) showcase "hangouts" with other Friends, showcasing the unique dynamics of this diverse cast of characters. For these two, I also appreciate that the color schemes have been chosen to match the house sets previously released for their respective characters (41730 and 42620), even though obviously these bedrooms are bigger and a higher level of detail than the ones released in those complete house sets. In Paisley's case it's not hard to imagine this set represents Paisley "graduating" to having her own room after previously having shared a room with her little sister.

By in Canada,

I wonder if the treasure map in Autumn’s room is meant to hearken back to the Forest sub theme of 2021. I am thinking specifically of 41677 Forest Waterfall …

No Olly or Zac but Liann makes it into two of these sets
