Random set of the day: Clone Walker
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 30006 Clone Walker, released during 2009. It's one of 36 Star Wars sets produced that year. It contains 31 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 2,858 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $34.30, or eBay.

Double star wars!
Any bets on which one would win in a fight?
so they're cloning the walkers now too?
also, 34 BUCKS FOR THAT HOLY MOLY
This is so cute! Why don't I own this?
Potentially a first attempt at a minifig scaled AT-RT, and it's thankfully some random promo thing because that's got some serious inaccuracies.
At the same time though, I don't hate it. I get the sense that it waddles, and that's quite charming.

That's a tough one to call. I'd say this one has more firepower, but the droid might have more maneuverability, so might be be able to make it hard to bring that big gun to bear.
For a second I thought the title said “clone walker battle pack”
Neat little poly bag though
Huwbot’s in a Clone Wars mood today.
I was just thinking this past week that I wish LSW would get more polybags with minifigs like this.

Both are made in factories, so…
Man, you could put today’s Random Minifigure and Random Set together as a pretty believable set. We have an antagonist in a very skewed matchup against a protagonist with a vehicle.

I replayed LEGO Star Wars the Complete Saga a month or so ago. In the Kamino level they have these drone/pod things that you have to fight. During Free Play, you can open up a secret room where you see more of those drones... inside of cloning vats. There is a precedent for LEGO characters to somehow clone machines.

And neither of them have any other weapons!

I was thinking how I couldn't recall ever seeing this before, and it turns out it may have been a UK exclusive. Pretty sure that I don't own it after all.

The Clone. The B1s are always portrayed as cannon fodder, only dangerous in large numbers, so our bioengineered buddy here has the advantage especially when he has the firepower of a walker. Throw a super battle droid or a commando droid in the mix and it might be another story but I fear our humble RMotD would be doomed
Nice mini mech. I think I'l build a few and let them run around the base...
When your soldiers are too lazy to walk things have really gone wrong, and a bit of a sitting duck on the battlefield.
It's adorable. Just don't remove the clone's helmet. That wasn't adorable. But fortunately you can just leave those on and use them as regular clones. That's one of the things I love about 8018 Armored Assault Tank, which otherwise just had the Clone Wars style yoda.

There was an AT-RT four years before this set, 7250 Clone Scout Walker. Although in that case it was very oversized, so you could still say this was the first decently minifig scale one :)
This was my first ever Star Wars set!
I tried customising the clone into Rex with blue sharpie, starting with his fin… before realising Rex didn’t have any blue on his fin. I gave up immediately, but as a result I now forever know which clone was my first one because he has a blue line on his helmet :P
Luke Skywalker: You fought in the Clone Wars?
Old Ben: I didn't just fight in them, I was a primary instigation of them starting when your father and mother tried - and failed - to rescue me from a insectoid-race's prison. I also discovered the clone army existed before anyone else, and that they were being created by the very people they were being sent to fight, in a massive scheme of manipulation on a galactic scale to gain ultimate power by the Sith.
Luke: Wow! How did it all end, then?
Ben: A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine before he turned to evil, helped the Empire to hunt down and destroy the Jedi. He betrayed and murdered your father.
Luke: Oh, where was Vader during your rescue during the Clone Wars then? You'd think your pupil would have rescued you, not another Jedi and some random lady.
Ben: ...
Ben: *waves hand* Everything you just heard, from the point of your question about the clone wars forward, you will forget ever happened. You remember nothing about my clone wars statements. *waves hand and Luke wakes up*
Luke: You fought in the Clone Wars?
...
There were a couple of sets like this, I think there was also a battle droid and STAP and a Stormtrooper and speeder bike, that I first learned about from the Star Wars visual dictionary's timeline of releases.

You forgot the part about helping patch up relations between the humans (whose Senator was opposed to going to war) and the Gungans (whose junior assistant Senator second-class was suckered into being the patsy who proposed all the stuff that gave Palpatine complete control over the Republic).

Yes. I picked this up in a bundle last year with the other kits that they said were included in the Mirror’s offer - it came with 8028 (TIE Fighter), 8031 (V-19 Torrent), 8033 (General Grievous’ Starfighter), 30004 (Battle Droid on STAP), and 30005 (Imperial Speeder Bike). They’re lovely builds if you can pick them up for a decent price, and the bundled versions are generally cheaper overall than nabbing them one by one if you’re patient enough to wait for a decent listing.

I'm very intentional with my words. I love 7250 and I think that's the size any standalone AT-RT set should be, and the lack of pieces at the joints help in it's range of motion for play and stability for display. In my opinion, it's the best AT-RT LEGO has made. Even if it's not totally accurate, it's at least not monstrous in size like 75002 and 75261 with the restricted joints, and not as visually confused like 75280 although it comes close to doing it right structurally. 8098 and 75151 have properly scaled AT-RT's to minifigs but they can't capture as much detail that LEGO would prefer for a solo set. 7250 strikes that perfect balance, and they got it on the first depiction of an AT-RT; it's wonderful.

So what you’re saying is the next CMF series should be a bunch of custom AT-RT frames with different Clonetrooper helmets perched on top?

Maybe. XD
But like, a small battle pack type set that had two smaller scaled AT-RTs with parts to make a few different company's wouldn't be bad. That's a pipe dream though. I was sent unsolicited images on Discord of a leak that was of this horrid yellow looking AT-RT though so like, never mind.
