Mixels Series 3: Wiztastics
Posted by CapnRex101,
In the third and final of our Mixels reviews we take a look at the Wiztastics, which are undoubtedly my favourite tribe of series three. These practitioners of magic live on the road in a garish magic tent according to the Mixels website.
Just as in previous series, the Mixels are priced at £2.99 or $4.99, and they are available now to purchase.
41524 Mesmo
Mesmo is my favourite of all the Mixels released in the first three series. He has an enormous amount of character, and he is unique among the nine of this series in that his expression can be changed be twisting the wizard hats over his eyes. This is a great feature in my opinion and I hope a similar design will appear in future series. There is also a significant amount of articulation as his feet, wings, jaw and tail can all move extensively.
The purple colour scheme works really nicely with the trans-blue and black pieces, of which there is a useful selection. The relative lack of ball joint pieces (only four are included) is more than made up for by the array of purple slopes and plates, and I like the eyes printed on Minifigure heads. For me, it is the little goatee beard however that is the icing on the cake as it is unique to Mesmo, again marking him out among other Mixels.
41525 Magnifo
Magnifo is the leader of the Wiztastics, and is unusually humanoid in his appearance. That takes nothing away from another great little figure though as Magnifo carries two wands, wears a rather nice purple hat, and even a cape! His single eye and two irregular teeth look great, and I am satisfied with the movement at his hips and shoulders.
The flashy collar of Magnifo's jacket looks great, and the cape completes his regal appearance with a flourish. This character is unique in the first three series in that he is actually wearing clothes rather than simply being a colourful monster. In almost any other tribe, Magnifo would be the outstanding Mixel, and I suspect he will be a favourite of many.
Magnifo also comes with the obligatory Nixel, which is identical to a couple of those released previously as we have come to expect from the Mixels series. Nevertheless, it is a nice inclusion to fill out the parts selection and add some extra playability.
41526 Wizwuz
Every great magician requires an assistant, and that role is filled by the enthusiastic Wizwuz. It is quite difficult to pin down exactly what Wizwuz is based on, as his appearance is particularly bizarre. The only real creature I can compare him to is a spider, albeit one with only six legs, each of which can be posed. Both the upper and lower jaw are also moveable, as is the abdomen section. The hook found here can be used to hang Wizwuz like a spider if you like, which I think would look rather nice.
Inside Wizwuz's mouth is an icy component which is new to me, although I am sure I have seen it somewhere before (70127 among others - thanks TheOneVeyronian). Otherwise there are plenty more purple pieces, three ball joint parts and an impressive twelve baby bows in black and purple!
Overall
As I mentioned at the start of this review, the Wiztastics are my favourite tribe yet, not only due to the brilliant selection of purple parts on offer but also because of the clearly conveyed character of each Mixel. I think the idea of a tribe based around magic is inspired as it yields some unusual configurations for these Mixels, and I like the dramatic variation between the three.
The third series of Mixels is by far my favourite. The Glorp Corp, Spikels and Wiztastics all contain some great characters within their ranks, and the wonderful parts selection in each is bound to appeal.
The Mixels building contests which have accompanied the release of the first and second series will be back soon for a third outing at the end of this week. I hope everybody has started coming up with some ideas already!

OK! Well, good thing these are cheap, because you've made me want them all. Great review and photos, though!
The inside mouth component on Wizwuz is also found in 70127 Wolf Legend Beast :-)
Another great review!
seems you and me have similar opinions of the mixels in general @CapnRex101, this is also my favourite tribe, with Mesmo being my favourite of the three. I really can't wait for the next mixel contest (assuming there is one) I got Mesmo, Scorpi and Glurt at the weekend and just picked up the other two Wiztastics this morning in anticipation of a contest!
I tend to only buy one of each tribe; there's just too many. Funny though how my favourites are nearly always the ones without the Mixels.
Can we have a contest where you have to mix two colours this time?
I really do regret not buying series 1 of the mixels when they came out - each wave just seems to get better!
Wizwuz is one of the worst mixels ever imo. Good concept but he looks too skinny. But he has so many usefull pieces I easily rebuild (and renamed) mine:)
In other hand I think MESMO is the best one yet! A lot of character and poseability! Goatie for the win!
I think I preferred to pictures with the white background like in the series 1 and 2 reviews.:P
I believe Wizwuz is a scorpion, hence the six legs and the protruding tail with pierce on the end.
I am loving these, some nice parts to expand my collection of purple (a color I wish LEGO would use more of)
@Keladeekadys,
You don't happen to live near Kingston-upon-Thames (West London) perchance?
Bentalls have a large stock of series 1 and 2 and they are currently on a clearance sale of "Buy 2, get the 3rd free".
@Omnium, thanks for the information, alas I'm not near Kingston-upon-Thames, I'm down in Swindon - not good for LEGO shopping, but we do get the show at Steam each year :)
Saved the best - purple - for last!
Ya! I want a building contest for All the series! Mixing series one with two and three!
