I loved all of the transformable 2 n 1 Lego movie sets. They were so creative and what Lego should be more often.

Weird plane design notwithstanding, this set actually made for a really wonderful plumbing van, a cool addition to any Lego city street.

Finally! Another TLM RSotD! I always liked the propeller made of tools and the horizontal stabilizer made of ladders on this one.

What the heck kind of plumber uses a hatchet, though? Standard metal pipe is going to wreck the tool with the first plow, copper is going to get crushed, and PVC will shatter.

I really like The LEGO Movie sets; it’s a really underrated theme, imo.

Still on the wantlist! Mainly for the plumber van...

Dreamzzz is a bit strange, some sets have very different 2-in-1 / 3-in-1, while others are just too similar .

71483 The Never Witch's Nightmare Creatures has 3 good very different builds for example, but a lot of the sets just have some minor changes.

Even a very big set like 71499 Mateo's Spray Paint Truck , barely changes , they could do so much more if they went full 2-in-1 like Creator / LEGO movie .

In "normal" config it's a really quite nice plumber's van, ideal for any city that's home to 6w vehicles

Well, what kind of port-a-potty errupts with 'blue' water? And, why is a plumber involved?

The only reasonable answer is that Joe the plumber is also an exorcist.

By in United States,

I can't believe TLM was 11 years ago. Thats what brought me out of my dark ages, seeing the trailers for it in 2013. Made me go to my parents' house and bring all childhood sets home and build them again. Thats when I discovered and joined Brickset as well. LEGO hit a homerun with that movie. Surely, I'm not the only one with this story.

I was "buying Star Wars and Harry Potter Lego for my kid." We had accumulated a good deal of it.

After TLM, I dropped all pretense that it was just for the boy. After all, the age on the box "is just a suggestion. They have to put that there."

It became my "highly sophisticated, interlocking-brick, modeling system."

I have this set, but I only built the plumber van as I didn't care for the wacky alt mode. Same goes for the garbage truck and ice cream seller sets that were also released...

TLM didn't bring me out of a dark age (I never really had one, more of a dim age where I still bought and built Lego, but it had lost some of its luster.), but talking about the trailer reminds me of the first time I saw it, before Despicable Me 2. I was sitting there thinking, "Even if the movie sucks, that was worth the cost of admission!" The presence of the "1980-something Space Guy" was a big part of it.

I was very upset when I discovered that TLBM was going to get a sequel, but Lego's partnership with Warner Bros. ending put the kibosh on that.

By in Netherlands,

I encountered this set from a collection buyout/bulk purchase a decade ago.

I found out the hard way that the Flying Flusher shown here does not nearly use all the parts used in the Plumber Van and porta potty build. Notably the opaque door. It was annoying to have to get as many parts from Bricklink as I did to actually complete it. The plumbing van was cool but felt a bit empty inside. The plungers are just stuck on jumper plates in there.

Funilly enough the triple connector used for the 'rotor' here is not used in that build, so neither option uses all parts.

And strangely it's the other way around with the Ice Cream Machine from the same line. You instead are left with more parts when you build the civilian vehicle instead of the rebuilt vehicle.

You and me both! A very long dark age indeed as I was 55 at the time. First set bought was the bike chase and really hooked me back into LEGO. Especially the CMFs. Due to some health related enforced downtime, I’ve recently been catching up with sets I didn’t get at the time (expensive!), this one included and rebuilding the ones I do have. Just wondering if I really want to shell out for Spaceship and Sea Cow!
That movie has a lot to answer for.

2014 was a fun time to be a LEGO fan. The movie was great. The sets were fun. It was refreshing to see LEGO put so much effort behind something that wasn't a third-party licensed property.

Didn't get this one...which is odd, I have two of the Transfo...er' convert-a-vehicles (:D)...maybe three (is 70814: Emmet's Construct-o-Mech considered one? It's made of construction vehicles, so...?) Otherwise, I've got 70804: Ice Cream Machine and 70805: Trash Chomper, because...well; Ice Cream Truck, and Garbage Truck, need I say more:)...kinda' mad I didn't get 70812: Creative Ambush as Canada did have Target stores at the time...oh well:)

I wonder if anyone has put together parts lists for sets like this. Like lists of pieces that are used in one build option but not the other. I had to manually figure out what pieces came with, but were not incorporated into, the Ev3rstorm build of EV3, and a list like this would have saved me two to three hours of double-checking myself.

By in Canada,

@PurpleDave: Oh...were those micro-builds official, because I don't see them listed...?

Also, it kinda' stinks that TLG and WBs...relationship went so sour. I mean: yes, four movies within five years is a 'stretch' (looking at YOU 'Dismal' Star Wars...)...but now we don't even get those Lego (blank) DVDs, where (blank) would be DC, or Scooby-Doo, and so on...I mean, I'd rather watch a Lego DC show, than one of Star Wars...or 'Morbid'...and usually with said DVD/Blu-Rays, you also got a figure...not always one we wanted (I think Guy Gardner would've been better than Batzarro, but I didn't get a vote...)

I can't speak for 70810, as that's the only non-polybag, non-promotional TLM set I didn't get, but 70816 is awesome, awesome, AWESOME! And besides, 70810 is from before they fixed the brown problem. The only brown in 70816 is one https://brickset.com/parts/6081990/stick-6m-w-flange.

I was 27 in 2013 when I first saw the trailer for TLM. The last set I bought was 65153 in 2002 when I was 17. The first set I bought after my dark ages was 21103 in 2013 and I've been buying many sets every year ever since. So, I only had about a 10-year dark age period, but I wish I never did because I missed out on a lot of cool sets.

Other than a couple of small polybags, bought by my wife, I don’t think I’d actually bought any Lego since childhood - the old red and white buildings era! Discovering the modular series was a revelation - managed to get Grand Emporium and all since, and CMFs are just another level of addiction! Getting a bit more focused on purchases in recent years but have plenty to keep me occupied during retirement!

I care about some of them, which actually majorly change the build, but look at the picture of back of box of 71499 Mateo's Spray Paint Truck, and it's mostly a "spot the difference" situation, like, nice, you can take off with the paint can, that almost looks the same still.

Meanwhile, with 71483 The Never Witch's Nightmare Creatures you get a bird, or a mech+dog, or a bigger wolf.

And sets don't have to be big to build other things, are proven with 71487 Z-Blob's Robot and Vehicle Adventures or 71488 Bunchu's Creative Animal Adventures which are 20in1.

Yup, 5002041. I got it mostly because it showed up free with an order, apparently. And they even had alt builds like the full-size versions, which you can kinda make out in the upper right of the polybag photo.

@fredrigl:
I used a pair of red Pieces of Resistance to make longer legs on Plasticman, but I think that’s it. Color’s such a problem with those, since red was common, silver was rare, and everything else was a pipe dream. Now it’s long out of production, so that doesn’t help.

I may be biased due to my age cohort, but I believe that The Lego Movie sets were the best action/adventure play theme Lego has ever made. It had great characters, great models, and wildly creative concepts.

Yes! I just used it for hiding the side studs on a 4-stud-wide stud reversal built on headlight bricks. It was an application where all sides had to be smooth and nothing could be hidden on the backside. The piece is perfect for that purpose, but hard to actually use it since it's tall and only came in three colors (two of which being quite rare). I was finally able to use it perfectly on this recent MOC, just to find I needed 8 of them and only had 5. Darn! Every time you get to use a "useless" part, it turns out you don't have enough of them.

Also, RSOD is making me realize I'm old again. This was NOT 11 years ago, right???
