Random set of the day: 1-2-3 ... Marie
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 3122 1-2-3 ... Marie, released during 2001. It's one of 4 Scala sets produced that year. It contains 17 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$15/£9.99.
It's owned by 55 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $26.00, or eBay.

1-2-3 Marie, you are very scary.
I'm feeling the Rocket Power vibes with this one. Woogity woogity woogity!
Peak set name?
(Insert Barbie Movie funny dialogue, slogan, meme, or interesting song lyric here)
I can't do it, Sam!
Is the 1-2-3 counting down the seconds until she falls off the skateboard?
So Maie=four.
Were girls in Europe in 2001 still wearing overalls with one strap down?
That was a very early-90s thing in the US.
I wonder why this name was decided upon, it's unique even among Scala sets. I'm guessing it was meant to evoke this being an action-packed premise (though she isn't exactly geared up for some extreme sports).
2001 was also the last year for Scala. A year later Lego would go all-in on the extreme sports genre with Island Xtreme Stunts (which was VERY trendy at the time), so Marie here is a pioneer.
"Set 3 1 2 2 1 2 3 Marie"
"Wow that's a long set number for an early 2000's standard product"
"No, the first four numbers are the set number, the last three are a part of the set name"
"What about the last 1 and 2?"
"Huh?"
"If the last 3 is a part of the set name what are the 1 and 2 before it?"
My dad… oh wait, wrong post. Scala…
@Maxbricks14, definitely scary, very scary, nightmare fuel for sure.
1-2-3, where is m LEGO?
This is the only set to use that skateboard piece. I want it!
A very old friend came by today
'Cause he was telling everyone in town
Of the love that he just found
And Marie's the name of his latest flame
Girl needs a helmet.

Why need a helmet when you have all that hair!
1-2-3 Peter Paul and Marie...
She’s so cool it hurts.

I've been seeing it a lot at our club displays, so apparently we're at the point where it's in style again.
She’s a Scala girl,
In a Scala world
Wow, that hairstyle was a choice. Choices were definitely made, that day.

It's definitely back in style again. Although I feel like the 2020s are far more eclectic when it comes to style. I can't think of any defining hair/clothing that screams this decade, but I suppose I may not fully see it until later.

To every thing.... turn, turn, turn
For every season....
The most beautiful sound I ever heard
Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie
All the beautiful scala sets in the world in a single word.
Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie, Marie
I've just met a lego girl named Marie
And suddenly that name
Will never be the same
To me.
She rides a Skateboard! I was Skating in the 2000's and i wished to meet a skatergirl someday at our local skatepark that time. The Sport was booming around that time but Skateboard girls where an absolute rarity! That is different nowadays.
Funny that this set doesnt come with protectors for knees, elbows and wrists.. what about a helmet!?

I think 70656 "garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON!" has the best set name.

Maybe we can yet bundle it with this set and 70816. "1 Garmadon's Spaceship - 2 Garmadon's Spaceship - 3 GARMADON'S! SPACESHIP! (ft. Benny and Marie)"?
I remember this from the catalogs. But I never noticed that she is holding a red phone before!
She was a sk8er girl, I said: "See you later, girl!"

She was a girl, this was a toy. Can I make it any more obvious?

No, "1 Benny's Spaceship 2 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, 3 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! (featuring Garmadon and Marie)." Benny got more movies than Garmadon, and his were better. Marie didn't get any at all.
1-2-3, easy as A-B-C...
(With all the good song references being taken, this Jackson 5 tune was the best I could do)

Not for nothing, but I feel confident that in a freestyle rap-battle, I would crush you like a reddish brown plate.

No, it was just the market research and product development that lagged behind. 2001 was very whaly-taily.

Enter 8803-15:
But it's like that, check dis out:
1, 2, 3,
In the set to be,
As is plain to see,
I am your dad
And this is Marie.
Funky looks from 1993
So not worn by jkb.
Inside the brick base a difficult phase,
Won't disappear without a trace,
And She rolled in today to mess with the commenting place.
And we are the cash giving,
The money moving
The dividends making
And the record breaking.
And it goes a little something like this...

Thing from 20 years ago are always back in style to some extent. I remember how cool the 60s were in the 80s. ;)

Actually, no.
What I remember style-wise of the Eighties is best left in the past and forgotten. Same goes for some of the Nineties styling atrocities ;-)
How does 1 2 3 Marie fit into the bionicle lore?

I just saw a skatergirl today as we were about to wrap up our show (way too young for me to take an interest in her, mind you). She was riding a longboard (71048-7), which I think is the first time I've seen someone with one of those in person.
