Random set of the day: Emma
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 3132 Emma, released during 1999. It's one of 15 Scala sets produced that year. It contains 12 pieces and 1 minifig.
It's owned by 51 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $22.60, or eBay.

Huwbot returns with another monstrosity!!
She's not one of the Friends! Imposter!!!
From the Master of Air (aka Jungle) to the Monster of Hair. She's got terrible muscle tone, too, BTW. Her legs are all skin and bones twiggy like a guy I work with.
No interest in Mr. Elton.
What’s up with huwbot and scala recently?
Oh, and BTW, Emma from Lego friends was named after this character.
Two Scala in the sidebar at the same time? Well Clikits had to run out eventually
In an alternate universe, the smash successes of Lego Scala dolls and Mattel Brick Shop building sets led to the two titanic toymakers taking each other's places in the toy aisles.

Running out of Clikits?

Oh, poor Other Emma. There are just certain names you don't give to kids anymore.
Yeah, I'm struggling to come up with anything for this one. She's just Emma, and that's all there really is to her.
I get it huwbot, you were excited about last months GWP, but making references to book titles is not the way to express it.
1-2-3 ... Emily.

Nah, 4-5-6... Emma.
Aaahhh! Too soon since the last one, we need a longer buffer between these things!
Huwbot, please stop scaring us!! :-)
What design of plate is that she is standing on? Four groups of five studs?

While it is a 4x4, Scala is its own nightmare-realm of arcane connection-points. It's very much worth not looking into at all.
Ah, Scala. Salmon parts and small transparant red sunglasses that get lost easily. Never change.

It's a scala plate. They use flower patterns as connector points.
Here's an article from Brickset about the Scala building system:

That type of connector was used in at least one system set: 7313. And yes, it's used as the main cannon.

How many MOCers took that not as a warning, but a challenge?

Considering what they had to work with, and what they needed to accomplish, it’s actually a pretty ingenious solution. It gives slight more compatibility than Duplo (one Scala “stud” = 2x2 regular studs, but it will accommodate plates and tiles instead of just bricks), and it provides a smooth-ish surface for doll shoes to stand on.

Sure. If I chew off my hands for no adequately explained reason and then learn to paint with my feet, that's pretty ingenious.
On the other hand, wherever that one might be right now, I could've just not chewed off my hands.

Studded surfaces wouldn’t allow the dolls to stand, and tiled surfaces wouldn’t allow stuff to be attached to the floor. Did they need to make a theme based around Barbie knock-offs? No, but this hybrid studded/tiled surface is System-compatible, and solves all the problems Scala had regarding the flooring. Except having customers buy it.
It took me a while to find RMOTD... I passed over the evil lady beckoning me into the house for warm chocolate a dip in the pool.
@purpledave ... Staples?!?! wow. I'd never have guessed. I'll definitely check out my local staples first and then head to dearborn, but if you do see it, please pick up two for me and I'll pay you back!
as far as scanning the figs go, I guess it's fine. You listed good reasons and the few times I was feeling up packages at a Lego store I was helping others find ones they wanted (and parents were really happy) and the Lego employees also helped me and others sometimes, so it wasn't -clearly- frowned upon at the very least.

I was shocked to notice LEGO bag tags near the checkout area when I stopped by for a recent purchase, and almost missed that they had maybe 1/4 case of D&D figs in stock. I think I need to pick up a tote to transport stuff for Plymouth, so I’m headed there after work.

Somerset, or somewhere else? Every store has their own relationship with any local LUGs. Ours happens to be on really good terms. The late, original store manager, Michael, even went into the back and pulled me a 71021-8 when he asked me how I was doing pulling that entire series (that was the one minifig that was completely absent from the bin, and it took him two attempts to actually locate one, but he was going strictly off of location within the case). Shane, who got promoted to replace him, was opening several cases with each new release in 2020, and letting people just ask to buy a complete set, or even specific characters (couldn’t let people repeatedly handle them under the pandemic rules), and they _know_ that they’re going to get a mob of completist collectors in on launch day who are going to be using an app to get exactly one complete set. I’ve never seen them object to anyone palping bags or scanning boxes, though it wouldn’t shock me if some locations do. Barnes & Noble is the worst I’ve found, with at least two of the three locations I shop at keeping the case behind the checkout counter, where you have to ask someone to assist you. There’s one Target in my area that sometimes puts them in little security cases that, depending on how they load the box into the case, you might be able to get a good scan off of, or they’ll 100% have to open the case to even ring them up.

There's a local toy store in Asheville, NC called Dancing Bear Toys that keeps all their bling bag/box stuff up near the register, so the employees can keep an eye on it. But they never had a problem with someone feeling the bags. I've never scanned boxes there, but I'm one hundred percent sure that they wouldn't have a problem with that, either.
@BlackFalconBirdman:
Well, they still had one, but the other was gone.
@TheOtherMike:
Between the LEGO Store, Meijer, Target, Walmart, and Kroger, I haven’t actually needed to resort to asking the B&N cashiers if I could dig through their boxes. Yet.

That’s interesting, my Barnes & Noble (that I go to on release day for CMFs) has always let me feel or scan the boxes. I’ve also been to a couple others and have never had issues.
@BlackFalconBirdman The DnD figures were everywhere! I saw them at Walgreens and many other places that don’t have CMFs normally. The Gith Warlock is a nice fig so I hope you get one!

@Wallace_Brick_Designs yes, and I bought 32? or so of them but I didn't get one Gith Warlock. I stopped getting the CMF when the price went so high, but I did fall in love with the D&D figures and their male/female heads. Excellent usability!
@purpledave thanks so much! yes, I'm usually going to Somerset if I ever go to a Lego store and they have been really nice. I guess I need to go now to get some dark blue spacemen. I usually order online now. I guess that's where I was feeling up the earlier CMFs.
