By in New Zealand,

Not much of an ambush. Bandit attack is a more suitable name.

2/3 of the entire Dark Forest theme in less than a week. Fascinating.

My older sister had this, I think as one of her oldest sets. And I am fairly certain my second oldest brother eventually acquired it from her. @Formendacil can probably confirm this for me.

The Huwbot works in sometimes seemingly non-random ways

Watch out, bandit! That ladder’s about to snap shut and imprison you, after which you’ll be slowly digested over a thousand years.

Was thinking the same.

Said it before the last time, I think the younger of these guys is King Lionheart's lost son Dickens from this:

This was one of the first sets I got as a kid! Years after the set itself was dismantled and forgotten, the knight with the brown helmet (Bob) was my Lego town's mayor and the knight with the black helmet (Joao) was the town's doctor. Bob drove a little Technic hovercraft and he always had his sword and shield handy. Joao flew a UFO-derived speeder and always had his trusty battle axe and bow and arrow handy.

By in New Zealand,

Got super lucky scoring one of these recently. A good mate of mine gifted me all his old childhood Lego sets, and this was in there along with the original box & instruction manual. I so desperately wanted some of these Castle sets when I was a kid in the 90's, but my parents weren't keen on the supposedly "violent" aesthetic. Now in my late 30's, getting to own one of these is like long-awaited childhood dream come true.

Ok...but where's the black Trans-Am? And neither one of those figures looks like Jackie Gleason...:D

By in United Kingdom,

Keep waiting there lads, I’m sure someone will be along for you to actually ambush sooner or later

By in United States,

I love the use of that pot as the catapult.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The days when trees were arches and you could ambush travelers with a full size catapult. The box art is nicely done, there is even an imaginary stone to stand on.

By in Portugal,

Please LEGO, re-release that farmer's cap!

I'm not able to see any images on brickset currently. Desktop nor mobile. Anyone else getting this issue of broken images?

Had this set as a kid and LOVED it!

By in Netherlands,

One of my very first sets! It holds a special place in my heart, and I had to replace the shield, black hood and 1x10 plate (almost no other set I had back then had a 1 wide plate THAT long. Man, how times have changed).
It is deceptively simple, but with the ladder raised it doubles as both a spot to store the chest and maybe a jail cell. And a ladder to ambush from above with too. The other side has tree branches sticking from the LURP and there's even a small fire on a plate with ring on a headlightbrick. From that side the catapult can also help with the ambush. Combined with the weapons holders on the sides and even the light grey castle-like bricks and arches on the side... this set is just plain complete and classy.

A real shame it's not really available all that well anymore. But for once I'm on the other side of that ownership and I'm just happy with it. It even goes with pretty much anything castle as it's just a piece of rocky forest. Great set!

I want nothing to do with a doctor whose medical equipment includes a battle axe or a bow and arrow.

@HumpyDumpyNZ:
What’s the big deal? It’s just a doctor and a civil servant, doing their best to improve the lives of the town’s inhabitants.

Don't worry, that wasn't the medical equipment. That was just for self defense in case one of several evil warlords or giant robots tried to ruin his day.

I mean, sure, the stone didn't come in the set, but there was a very real stone (although it might have been made of foam or something) when the box pixture was taken.

Oh, yes. I only have one of those (from 1974-3), but I'd love to have more.

The only set from the range that I really liked is the one Huwbot is forgetting.
This one was ok. I think it should be ranked higher than 6046 helmlock. This one is solid and contains more than the similar 6020 or 1596 (very small 'rocky forest' hideouts, though I prefer 1596). 6079 contains so much more and has more than one tree!

He did and it was most unfair--here I am with 0 Dark Forest to this day and he's sitting in his dark ages with the whole theme!

(I like the set.)

I do like the variety of classic castle headgear! While space only had one, castle had several for knights, the forestmen cap, this peasant cap, royal headgear, etc.
That being said, this might have been the worst headgear of them. It was more fragile than the classic spacehelm. I have a few that got bent. It also looked ok with a cape but newer versions fit capes much better.
Surprisingly, it (peasant cap piece 2505) was available until 2016 in brown in 70314 and 70334 (Nexo), and in 2012 in black in 6918 (Kingdoms). It felt like it retired earlier, but its been around.
