LEGO's attempts at Droidekas has failed too many times to count, but these are some of the worst that I own. Only good ones are from 2002.

Classic set! This was among the first Star Wars sets to switch over to the 5-digit set numbers. It was also, if I recall correctly, my first battle pack.

The last battle pack before the revolution. @MCLegoboy these ones are terrible, and the 2002 ones were better than these. Lego can’t learn in over a decade. *Sigh*

If they released this set now it would cost $25.

I just rewatched the Clone Wars 2D micro-series earlier today, so this is well-timed!

I think this is the last star wars set I remember me or any of my siblings getting before my dark age. Also the only set I remember getting that didn't have the 08 clone wars style printing for clone minifigs.

Honestly the worst Star Wars battlepack.

By in Jordan,

I had this set as a kid and I loved it. It complemented 75019 AT-TE really well, and I especially enjoyed the droidekas despite the lack of screen-accuracy.

A two-minifigure battle pack is pretty weak, brick-built droids aren't really any substitute.

What is that build supposed to be? Like a little mini radar station?

I don't recall when exactly I got this set, but it may very well have been my first Star Wars set. Was a cheap way to get a couple Ep. II clones and a couple dark red parts. I split it with my brother, one clone and one droideka each. I'd say it was all my pocket money could buy, but it definitely wasn't all my money because I know I bought 9497 sometime in 2013.... Still, I like this set for what it is.

Technically, it was the first, since 75000 was the starting point for Star Wars set numbers when LEGO finally fully switched over in 2013. I found the switchover very interesting and hoped it meant more consistent set numbering (instead of jumping around with each year's releases). That has been true for Star Wars (75XXX), City (60XXX), Technic (42XXX), Creator (31XXX) and a few other themes, but sadly less so for other lines (looking at you, Ninjago).

I think it's meant to be a mini version of the forward command post Yoda was dropped off at during the Battle of Geonosis. I looked it up at one point years ago, don't remember exactly. I always treated it as a little speeder thing, like a mobile artillery platform, seeing as it has that fold-up flick missile on top.

For two minifigs plus parts.

By in Netherlands,

Not a fan of the design of the droids. Or the command post... or one of the clones being a specific lieutenant. At least the clone helmets were updated from the simplistic 2008 design...

By in United States,

I'm wondering what the combat advantages there are to bringing a big chair out onto the battlefield.
Is it to write songs from?

It's based on a command station that you can see in Attack of the Clones. It's much larger in the film. They did it again in 40558

I really like this battle pack but it came out when I was a kid, long before I had ever conceived of buying more than one of any set. It was just a cheap way to get two phase I clones, which we hadn't had in years and years other than the Clone Wars variants. And I loved getting clones with colours on their armour, so it was cool to get the lieutenant. Plain clones were boring to me.

Which is sad, because technically all parts are still available...

They did it again in 75366. This may have been one of the only times I thought an Advent build was adorable in the marketing materials and incredibly lame once I built it. It was doubly painful because the STAP was so wonderful.

Also, the command center is, like, huge, so seeing these deformed versions that are explicitly NOT microfighters is jarring.

everyone has their own opinions, which is a great thing.
I remember also not liking this set when it came out. We thought it was overpriced, getting 2 figures and some parts for 12.99. but it's great you like it and cherished it.

It’s not as bad as some of the sequel battle packs and the tatooine battle pack, and when it comes to clone battle packs the worst in my opinion is the Jedi and clone troopers battle pack.

This had such potential to be a modern p I battle pack until they threw in the droidekas instead of two more clone troopers.

Of course that goes without saying. I found it more amusing than upsetting that @Maxbricks14 comment was in such stark contrast to mine.

They’ve kinda waffled back and forth between doing single-team and X vs Y battle packs. The former work best if you just want to army-build one unit, or if it gives them the ability to produce a wider range of options. The latter works better for kids who actually want a battle-in-a-box.

yea, it's amusing for me as well. even the RSOTD discussions, with me not a fan of the 2 recent dark forestmen sets but others loving them. maybe I need to give this battle pack another look

The Lego Group's utter inability to make a decent looking droideka needs to be studied

By in United States,

I remember disliking this battlepack when it was revealed, still do to this day. Who wants an equal amount of lieutenants and regs? And while it took me many years to start buying multiples of battlepacks, I remember being disappointed with the droidekas. I would have preferred they be the builds and they add more clones/droids. It's a shame I didn't start buying multiples of battlepacks until after some of the best clone battlepacks had retired.

Special to me because this was my first Lego Star Wars set I ever got!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have one piece from this set. I mean, I may have more, but I know of one: the lieutenant's helmet. Which, don't get me wrong, was a cool enough find when I got it, but which is sort of a specialised colour and a bit silly on its own.

Let us not forget that 71001-3 was packed 6/60, while 8827-10 was packed 3/60. Oh, and you need 80-100 of the latter for every one of the former you get your hands on. Just buying sealed cases, for every case of S10 you got, you’d need a whopping 160 cases of S6 to get enough troops, and that’s only going with the short centuries from later in the Roman Empire. If you wanted the full century used earlier, now you’d need 200 cases of S6.

By in United Kingdom,

See, I've played the original Star Wars Battlefront far FAR more than I've studied the clone ranks in the movies; so to me, the guy with green markings here just looks like a Jet Trooper who forgot his jetpack.

If I ever got that figure (and I don't have any particular plans to, but IF), I'd bricklink a jetpack piece from e.g. https://brickset.com/minifigs/sw0233 to make him match the game, specifically because as a kid I would ALWAYS play as the Jet Trooper in that game whenever I had the chance - both for his ability to fly (and therefore get to places that other units couldn't reach), and for his more powerful weapon. While these days I tend to favour the Clone Sharpshooter instead, I still have the bigger soft spot for that game's Jet Trooper design, so I kinda like the idea of referencing that!
