It comes with a little baby version as a drone, that's cute.
I think I won this as a door prize. No idea why else I’d own it. First source of burnt hot dogs, too.
nostalgia came calling, and it means business
always loved this set, everything about it
especially that drone, that thing was soo cute
Im such a sucker for set with a tiny thing can can go inside of it
and that trans yellow cockpit, yet to have found a use for it
I always liked the use of https://brickset.com/parts/4539385/crash-bar-4x6x3 on the engines.
Trans-Yellow cockpit! Time to rejoice!
QUICK LORE
Scuba Divers go searching for Atlantis!
They fight a bunch of fish people to get five keys and open a magic portal the lost city!
They find Atlantis is full of other fish people who have betrayed and trapped it's king!
They must repair his trident to save him!
QUICK LORE!!!!
Take a look at the reflection in the black half-dome!
This whole theme had my attention from the word go. It was just awesome.
Why does that baby drone remind me of that 'Don't talk to me or my son ever again' meme?
woah so much nostalgia from this one. absolutely loved this set. I’ll be honest these Atlantis sets actually aged pretty well
Hot mess!!
Love Atlantis, especially all the evil fish builds.
I love Atlantis. It is such an amazing theme, easily one of the best original Lego themes.
I guess nobody is going to mention that this is actually a power miners set?
The Atlantis theme was brilliant.

I'm more interested in the reflection in the larger red dome on the far side of the picture.
The windshield-canopy is unique to this set and was only ever produced in this color. That's a piece (pun intended) of Lego history for you.
Although the color scheme upgrade from lime to yellow for the second year could have worked out, the lack of any substantially-sized sub besides this one makes this set the oddball.
I feel like if you’re trying to pass yourselves off as just innocent explorers looking for Atlantis then calling your ship a “Raider” is…not the best optics
I had encountered one of these once in a bulk lot. It wasn't complete, as there were no minifigs, terrain build or accessories. And it felt a bit disappointingly small. I parted it out, and that was it for that copy.
I'm not of the opinion that Atlantis was a great theme all around. It had some great sets, but also some less great ones IMHO. I like subs and I've collected quite a few over the years. And Atlantis has a lot of very gangly ones with next to no interior. Personally I like my subs like the 7774 Crab Crusher, with actual interior figs can move inside in. Or at least like the 6442 Sting Ray Explorer, with a second research station of some kind. Atlantis only seats multiple on the 8075 Neptune Carrier, but that's just two deployable vehicles. It has an interior, but it's laughably narrow. The only other set like that is the 8077 Atlantis Exploration HQ, which actually conceivably allows them to remove their helmets inside.
Where I think Atlantis shines is the terrain focussed sets... all three of them (8078, 8061, 7985). And some more unique vehicles like the 8080 Undersea Explorer. Or even the 8060 Typhoon Turbo Sub. And most animal builds have a lot to like.
Anyway, this set is definitely one of the better ones in that it at least has a sizable trunk with a storage crate and of course the mini rover. It also has a crossover with Power Miners. That's Brains, whose monocle now shows a portal ring key instead of a crystal. At the very least this is a good sized sub for one person. And with an arm and drill there's a lot you can do with it.
Finally, the terrain build is nice. Parts of the portal emperor armor and the then-new collumns? Yes please!

It appears in white on many trucks and campers starting from 2008. And even in transparant colors it appears in trans. dark blue in the 5985 Space Police Central.
EDIT: I'm misremembering. This is a slightly similar part with cockpit hinge. You're right, it only appears in this one set. Learned something new today!
Well, 'Dark Age' for me...although, now I wish more those windscreens were around...(Dear TLG: More Tr. Yellow Windsrceens, for...reasons...SPAAAAAAA...um, yeah:))

You make some fair points.
I've always had a soft-spot for Lego villains, and Atlantis giving us an army of undersea monsters was pretty perfect in that aspect.
Ironically enough, I don't think "submarines" was what Atlantis did best, even though it was - primarily - an underwater theme.
No, I think Atlantis's strength was in the more wacky, sci-fi elements. The giant sea monsters were great, and that underwater tank that turns into a mech? I think that's one of my favourite sets of all time.
Plus, outside the original Aquazone subs, it's hard to make comparisons because 7774 was probably one of the best submarines Lego ever made.
The fish people had the most amazing head prints. Used with any of the Collectible Minifigure Costume people makes for a terrifying monster. This one in particular ATL017 : Atlantis Hammerhead Warrior mixed with 8831-3 Bunny Suit Guy is WILD.
I missed out (or did ?) on Atlantis during my dark ages. Can't say I feel most or many sets were essential, but this one somehow just resonates with me enough to the point where I bought a copy on the aftermarket. I just love this thing, it's great.

Right, almost forgot. Favorite head in this set. Got hundreds of them.
