Review: 71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Collectable Minifigures
Posted by CapnRex101,
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse features a huge variety of Spider-People, providing ample source material for several series of Collectable Minifigures! However, just one series is enough for the movie's major characters and a number of fun background designs.
Like many licensed series, 71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Collectable Minifigures includes a couple of questionable character choices and it is a shame to miss the villains from the Spider-Verse films, but the overall standard of these figures is as impressive as ever.
Summary
71050 LEGO Minifigures - Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Series - Complete, 93 pieces.
All twelve minifigures are brilliantly executed, but there are surprising absentees
- Definitive versions of popular characters
- Amazing level of detail throughout
- Plenty of alternative heads and hair pieces
- Omits a couple of major characters
The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.
Minifigures
Themed series of Collectable Minifigures sometimes include special bases for each character. Trans-orange is a fine choice for this series, evoking a colour from the movie poster. A simpler base adorned with the Spider-Man insignia would have worked too, but apart from its aesthetic value, this trans-orange piece could be useful elsewhere.
Miles Morales is Earth-1610's one and only Spider-Man at the beginning of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and appeared in 76311 Miles Morales vs. the Spot earlier this year. This figure is similar to its precursor, but features crackling electricity to represent Miles' venom strike ability on this occasion, which adds a nice splash of bright colour to his otherwise dark suit.
The printed arms are particularly effective, but I am unsure about his bright light blue hands, as they stand out a bit too much for my liking. The designs across the head and torso look perfect though, recreating the hand-painted style of Miles' spider symbol and the red stripes under his arms. Clearly, those stripes are in slightly the wrong place, but the sides of torsos are never decorated.
Some might have preferred a standard version of Miles in this series, but omitting any electrical details from the legs is a fair compromise because you could easily swap the printed legs to the minifigure from 76311 Miles Morales vs. the Spot. As shown below, the two are otherwise nearly identical, apart from the pale blue and white highlights.
Miles comes with a black spider, presumably supposed to be the spider from Earth-42 that gave him his powers. The spider has distinctive patterns on its body and orange legs in the film, so I wish this element was decorated accordingly, but it would doubtless be very difficult to print on such a complex piece.
Where appropriate, the Spider-Verse minifigures come with unmasked heads and hair elements. Miles therefore includes his unique hair component, which debuted with 76311 Miles Morales vs. the Spot in January, plus a new double-sided head. While these expressions are milder than the equivalents on his earlier figure, I like both designs.
Spider-Punk, also known as Hobie Brown, is one of the most popular Spider-People in Across the Spider-Verse and will doubtless prove equally popular in minifigure form. Something of his vibrant graphical style has been lost in translation from the animation, but inevitably so I think, given his extreme stylisation in the movie.
Nonetheless, the figure is intricately detailed, capturing the uneven eyes and spider webbing on the head, as well as lots of the graphics across the rest of his suit. There are one or two areas for improvement though, as the character's badges are noticeably blank and I wish blue laces could have been printed on the front of the boots, instead of only around the sides.
Hobie's guitar looks outstanding though, as does his silver mohawk. This element is unusually wrapped around the stud on top of the head, which reminds me of Yondu's minifigure in 76080 Ayesha's Revenge. However, this piece is made from rubber, so it does not feel entirely secure to me.
Miles thinks Hobie seems even cooler without his mask and I might agree, thanks particularly to the stunning hair piece! Its style perfectly reflects the animation, while the double-sided head is equally accurate and features several metallic silver piercings, also corresponding with the film.
Prowler is an outlier in the series, as the only character without Spider-Man's abilities. Instead, this is an alternative version of Miles Morales from Earth-42 and the figure looks great, so I am pleased it is included. The lavender, purple and pink colours stand out and match the onscreen character and I like the gauntlets from Legends of Chima forming the Prowler's claws.
Furthermore, the arms are dual-moulded and decorated to match the claws, so you can display the figure without them, if you wish. The fabric collar and sculpted mask are fantastic too, again corresponding with the movie and even capturing Miles' hairstyle on the back of the mask piece.
A separate hair element is provided too, but neither part would cover an alternative expression on the reverse, so the figure only has one expression. That would be fine, but this smile seems completely unsuitable, given the character's cold demeanour. I like the record though, based on one Miles' uncle Aaron plays in the final scene, featuring Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City.
Spider-Gwen, also known as Spider-Woman or Ghost Spider, has appeared quite regularly in recent Marvel sets, but is a character who needs printed arms and legs to look her best. This minifigure obliges and is undoubtedly my favourite version of Gwen Stacy's web-slinger, with magenta patterns on the arms and dual-moulded legs greatly enhancing the design.
Exactly like Miles, the fundamental figure matches that from 76311 Miles Morales vs. the Spot, but there is no need to swap parts between them because this design is complete. The printed photo is a lovely addition as well, translating a Polaroid from the movie to LEGO form.
However, my favourite aspect of this minifigure is the much-needed new hair piece, recreating Gwen's distinctive hairstyle with stunning detail. The pink highlights and sculpting are faultless and I hope this element is used for all future iterations of the character. The double-sided head looks nice too, especially following the poor re-use in 76311 Miles Morales vs. the Spot.
Miguel O'Hara's famed Spider-Man 2099 is another of the most anticipated minifigures in this series, partly because his only previous figure has become so expensive. Whereas the earlier example was distinctly comic-based, this one conveys Miguel's almost digitised aesthetic from Across the Spider-Verse.
The red and flame yellowish orange patterns are stunning, complemented by the plastic cape, which is arguably unnecessary, but still appreciated. Additionally, I love the little dots added to evoke the animation style of the Spider-Verse movies, similarly found on Miles and Gwen.
LYLA is Miguel O'Hara's automated assistant, mostly portrayed as a hologram. A nanofigure is perfect to represent the character and her iconic heart-shaped glasses are easily recognisable, even at this minute scale.
Once again, an alternative head and hair element are included. I think the hairstyle commonly used for Han Solo suits Miguel and his ferocious expression definitely conveys the character's intense anger, resulting from an exceptionally tragic backstory.
Spider-Man India is a much lighter character, by contrast! Pavitr Prabhakar's vibrant costume works nicely for a minifigure, blending the typical Spider-Man features with Indian iconography. Moreover, the new hair piece looks superb, faithfully recreating Pavitr's effortlessly stylish locks in Across the Spider-Verse.
Apart from his hair, Pavitr's interactions with Miles focus greatly on chai and the foolishness of saying 'chai tea' because chai already means tea! With that in mind, including a teacup makes sense. A bangle would have been useful too, in addition to those printed on the arms.
Spider-Cat also accompanies Spider-Man India, which is a bit strange because I do not recall these characters interacting in the film, but the cat is a delightful addition, even so. The printed mask is fun and although Spider-Cat wears a full costume onscreen, it would probably be close to impossible to print it properly.
Pavitr's smiling and determined expressions look good and he features a blue band just under his hair, again corresponding with the film and completing another splendid figure in this range.
Cyborg Spider-Woman is probably the most unexpected character in the series, appearing in just the distant background during the movie, as far as I know. However, I can see why graphic designers could be drawn to this incarnation of Spider-Woman, as her asymmetrical costume is exceptionally detailed.
The mask and shoulder armour component looks great and I like the mechanical arm, using a piece designed for Dr. Inferno from LEGO Agents. The printed arm and dual-moulded legs are appealing as well, but in a series limited to twelve characters, there are plenty of others I would have preferred to see instead of Cyborg Spider-Woman.
A little more prominent onscreen, though only featured in a single scene, is Sun-Spider. This character was actually created by a fan after Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released, as the alter ego of Charlotte Webber, whose Ehlers-Danlos syndrome limits her mobility in some ways, but increases her agility beyond even other Spider-People in others!
It is nice to see the character portrayed in LEGO form and represented so effectively, using a new baseball cap created to fit backwards. The printed arms look brilliant too, but like Cyborg Spider-Woman, there are other Spider-People missing from the series with greater roles in the Spider-Verse films, such as Jessica Drew.
Sun-Spider wields a pair of crutches in the movie and this minifigure does too. This accessory debuted in 60469 Central Train Station earlier in the summer, but I assume it was designed for the Collectable Minifigure.
A new mask has been developed for Spider-Byte, meanwhile, to recreate Margo Kess' avatar form from Across the Spider-Verse. This purple and dark blue component looks splendid on all sides, incorporating her hair at the back, which matches the provided hair piece and resembles the Prowler's mask, even with similar eyes.
Furthermore, the circuit-like patterns on the torso and arms look appealing, influencing Spider-Byte's spider insignia as well. It is difficult to capture a purely holographic character, but I think the combination of purple, pink and pearlescent trans-pink, plus a blue skin tone, suffices.
The figure includes smiling and concerned expressions on her double-sided head and comes with a printed screen. The spider that gave Miles his powers is helpfully labelled here, coming from Earth-42.
Peter B. Parker has been Spider-Man for 22 years in his universe when introduced in Into the Spider-Verse. Although his life has been hard for much of that time, matters have improved by the events of Across the Spider-Verse, as Peter has remarried Mary Jane and become a father. However, his disinterest in fashion evidently remains, given the pink dressing gown!
Dual-moulded legs work well for the dressing gown, with part of Peter's traditional Spider-Man garb underneath. The figure is otherwise fairly unremarkable, though accurate to the film. I am particularly pleased with his concerned alternative expression, befitting such a caring character.
May 'Mayday' Parker accompanies her father, tucked into a baby carrier. This piece has only appeared once prior in dark bluish grey, in 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens. However, the baby inside is certainly the highlight and May looks utterly adorable, as expected, complete with her printed mask.
It seems a few Spider-People were developed to take advantage of a pun and Web-Slinger is one such character! The cowboy-themed hero undoubtedly looks the part, dressed in a classic cowboy hat and dual-moulded boots. The torso and legs have no details specific to Spider-Man, so you could use them for other cowboy characters.
The fabric cloak is adorned with a spider symbol and web patterns, however. Furthermore, this minifigure wields a medium nougat lasso, evidently embracing as many cowboy stereotypes as possible!
The stereotype even extends to Spider-Horse! The pony element debuted with the Horse and Groom Collectable Minifigure a few years ago and I think it looks superb with the printed mask, even though the horse is far larger in the movie. Clearly, it would not be possible to include the full-size LEGO horse with a Collectable Minifigure, so this is a fine alternative.
The final minifigure is Werewolf Spider-Man, another of the numerous Spider-Man variants in the Spider-Society. LEGO has released lots of werewolf minifigures and this head element has been used several times before across various themes, albeit never covered with a Spider-Man mask on those previous occasions!
I love the tattered Spider-Man suit, especially given its resemblance to the normal Spider-Man minifigure in use nowadays, so you can envisage the figure transforming into Werewolf Spider-Man. The different dual-moulded arms and legs greatly improve the design, although I wish the section of the tail sandwiched between the torso and legs was printed on the front.
Overall
71050 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Collectable Minifigures is unusually focused on a specific character type, even compared with other licensed series of minifigures. However, the series offers a reasonable variety of interesting designs, despite focusing almost exclusively on Spider-People. In addition, all twelve figures are highly detailed, as expected from Collectable Minifigures.
There are some surprising character choices though. I am amazed by the absence of Jessica Drew and Peni Parker, although the latter would probably make more sense in a set with her mech, SP//dr. Assuming those characters will appear elsewhere in the future, this is a superb group of minifigures for Spider-Man fans and I would love to see an equivalent villains' series!

......... No idea who I'm looking at
I like the split between main characters and random Spider-HQ spider-people. This might be the ideal selection, as it gave us a vastly improved version of main-character Ghost-Spider, highly desirable side-characters like Spider-Punk, but also background fodder like Sun-Spider and Werewolf Spider-Man. I really hope to see a second wave to fill in the gaps!
What I really don't like is how "homeless" these minifigs feel. All of them could have been included in sets. Too bad the movie is years old at this point. I expect a similar out-of-pocket feeling when the Superman sets in response to the 2025 Superman hype hit shelves in ~two years.

Those bases seem usefull, I'll try making one into those hexagonal portals. Really missing Peni Parker in this CMF line. My reworked jazz club with bodega and Miles apartment has a SP//DR on top, but no Peni

Indeed it would be great to get more Spider-Verse sets (and I hope we will when the third part of the trilogy comes out), but in the meantime it's great to get a selection of figures.
Personally I'm especially pleased by the inclusion of more bit-part characters in this series since some of the more major characters from the earlier movies would probably be better suited to full sets (especially Peni Parker, who would not be complete without a brick-built SP/DR, Aaron Davis/Prowler who would be well suited to a set with his souped-up motorcycle, and Olivia Octavius/Doc Ock who would probably be best portrayed with brick-built mechanical arms bigger and more complex than could necessarily fit in a Collectible Minifigure). And if they were to ever make, say, a D2C set of the Spider Society headquarters, there are still plenty of other minor Spider-heroes who could be included to populate it.
Speaking of this trilogy, it'd be great if they made a Lego video game based on it when all is said and done! I haven't played many Lego games in a while but I've been impressed by the looks of some of the recent ones including ones developed by studios other than TT Games (like the Lego Horizon games). I'll bet if Lego and Sony gave Insomniac (the developers of the recent Spider-Man Playstation games) the resources to develop a Lego Spider-Verse game the results could be pretty great!
I love them. It always makes me happy seeing obscure characters I never imagined would appear in Lego.
I agree though: Justice for Peni! Hopefully they're saving her for a mech release in the future.

I hope they have sets for all three movies locked and loaded for when the last movie in the trilogy comes out. It's already been delayed countless times so there is really no excuse.
Great review and can't wait to get my set of 12!
Not for me, but it's definitely a very interesting-looking series. I'm sure that fans of the movies will really like this.
I initially only wanted to pick up Spider-Punk, but seeing the pics in this review has convinced me to get several of the others as well. A really nice selection of figures and great designs. No real duds.
I've seen transparent clear 3x4 minifig stands in the Leicester Square Lego store but never in any set. I'd love to see this part come in more colours.
I really like this series, they're all fun and distinctive looking figs, regardless of how big a role they played in the movie. I decided not to get the full set on preorder from the link the other day but I'm kinda regretting that now!
I have all fingers and a few toes crossed for a future Peni & SP//dr mech kit but generally I’m really quite pleased with this round of Spider-People, and I think I’m going to opt in even though I much prefer CMF lines that aren’t based on outside IP as a general rule. Also, it’s nice to see a fellow zebra get a minifig. Sun-Spider ftw.

You know... Spider-Man... Legendary friendly neighbourhood wall crawler?
Well personally I love all of these figs, so I'll be getting a full set of them. Gotta agree it would have been nice to have some of the villains, or better known other Spider-people... IE, Spiderman Noir, with a third movie coming out, its a good excuse for them to make a second series somewhere down the line with even more alternates.
Though on multiple heads and hairpeices etc.... Am I being cynical, or is this some kind of ploy to make people have to buy two of certain figures so they can display all the variations?

Nah it's fine the way it is. It would be a cynical ploy if I had to buy two boxes to get both heads but with the same torso. To include both the masked and unmasked head is what I would expect them to do, if I wanted them to do it right.
In a series that seems to be focused on portraying members of the Spider Society, it does feel odd it’s left Jess out at least. I’d have probably put her in the lineup in place of Prowler, fun though that minifig is, just for consistency

If, like me, you’ve only seen the first ‘Spider-Verse’ film once and not the sequel, these characters aren’t terribly meaningful. I might pick up some of the minifigures for parts, but not for the characters themselves.
Amazing series. I'll get most of these.
I'm not sure what to think of Gwen's hairpiece. It really captures the essence of her hairstyle, yes, but I wish it hadn't, because I hate that essence and I hate that hairstyle. It's an amazing representation of something I wish didn't exist.
Fun fact: our version of Prowler is... Hobie Brown. You'd think that would make him cooler than other Prowlers, but really, he's not - because the Spider-Verse Prowler is Mahershala Ali, and the MCU-version is Childish Gambino.
Dang man, we need many more Prowlers.

This will almost certainly be third complete set of CMFs I order from eBay, after Series 26 (Space!) and the D&D series. I love the trans-orange bases.
Can't wait for next Monday Morning to go and get A few I've got my scanner ready and I know who I want

Seriously though, I'm resenting more and more committing to getting a full set of Collectable Minifigures (apart from Mr Gold, of course) because of these licensed themes- I'm aware of Disney and the Simpsons and know some of the characters- though I haven't really watched any of the stuff because, well, I don't want to.... (I don't like TV, I don't like movies, not too keen on most comics...)
Yep, I know of Marvel, but I really have never encountered Spider- Man in any of his iterations (apart from with Lego, where there is plenty about him...) I don't know the context and, again, I'm not interested.
But for some bizarre, weird, reason I'm going to fork out £42 just to make sure my full set continues.
Habit is a terrible thing.
Let's keep Lego profitable, eh?

I… guess I’m sympathetic? It’s hard to give up the idea of that nice little 100% marker (or 99.whatever minus Mr Gold, I suppose) on a collection. But also this seems a bit like a self-inflicted injury, and I promise that just not doing that is an option!
"Prowler is an outlier in the series, as the only character without Spider-Man's abilities. Instead, this is an alternative version of Miles Morales from Earth-42"
Wait, I thought this was Marvel, not Sonic, but you're telling me Miles Prowler is there?
I might pick up SpiderByte, Prowler or Webslinger since I like the parts/figs. But at the same time I might not. I'm moving further and further on from Lego since my time seems more fleeting. I haven't even built a MOC in two years, and I doubt that will change in the near future.
Overall the series looks fine. I never watched the second movie so I don't really care about any of the characters. I appreciate the specialized hair molds even if most aren't versatile though. The trans orange stands probably gripped my interest the most. If I get the chance to pick up a couple I will, but if they get cleared out like recent series I'll live.
Spider-Byte's head piece would work well for Violet in the new Willy Wonka set.
I really love the attention to detail here. But it's still incredibly frustrating that $5 Marvel CMFs can get dual-molded legs, arm printing, and side leg printing, but my main man Tarkin, the in the $1000 Death Star, is left out to dry.
I hope all Fans of the Spiderman Series will get their desired Minifigures as they all look marvelous. However this is not for me and a Pass and I am looking forward to the next Minifigures Series

No, they will complain about every missing character, obscure characters that are included, prints that aren’t perfect, incorrect facial expressions or hairpieces, re-used heads, lack of dual-molding, the prices, the blind boxes that you can’t ‘feel’ anymore, etc…..

True; I should know better. XD
Cyber, Sun-Spider, Web-Slinger, and Werewolf are definitely going to be peg warmers that will be fetching list price on secondhand markets for years. I get not including Peni due to not being able to include the mech, but I can’t imagine the reasoning for picking those four over Noir, Jessica Drew (maybe not included because she’s pregnant?), Officer Morales, Captain Stacy, Paper Vulture, or Doc Oc. Maybe they were trying to stick to Spiders only (or their alternate versions, which would explain Prowler Miles). Still, Noir would fit that criteria and is an obvious miss. Even what’s-his-face, the over-dramatic Spider-Man had more screen time than some of these D-List spiders.
I’m assuming the Lego Spider-Man seen in the movie is already available or else that is the biggest missed opportunity in Lego licensing history.

Same. Those darn Cap'n reviews make me buy stuff. Probably get them all, now.
I have no interest in this series either, but it has two animals that with a normal print would be great to have, hope they show up in BAM or similar later.
If Lego has made the mould in a new colour I assume it is easier to give it a new print (or more like the same one as those animals have had earlier) and include it in BAM or similar than making it in a new color, right?!

Surely the amazing detail on the other figures in that set will make up for it.
Oh, wait...
;-)
Anyway, as for this series, while I haven't seen any of the Spiderverse media, and hence don't know these characters either, some of them look quite cool even if you're unfamiliar with the source material. I might get that Cowboy, since the legs and torso are quite versatile.

Sure, but that isn't really "Marvel versus SW", it's "boxed sets versus CMF". Miles and Gwen here are much more detailed than their similar counterparts in 76311, the same was embarassingly true for the Marvel CMFs and the characters that appeared in similar sets.
There's only one real conclusion here in the interest of fairness and balance: we need a CMF containing every minifigure that has existed, does exist or will ever exist. And I would suggest printing 10 Misters Gold to each other minifigure, if only because it'll really upset some obnoxious ducks and/or people.
Great series, now do comic spider-man just with b- and c-listed villains next
Would have loved to see Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider.

I think this is canon. Miles Morales and Uatu haven't met yet. Maybe the Watcher is contractually only allowed to watch Disney+?
Looking forward to picking up some of these! Spider-Man India is my favorite!
And for any older AFOLs who haven't watched these two films: Watch them! They're great! I'm not the biggest Marvel/Superhero fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed both entries in this series so far!
Another amazing review, and in such lavish detail too. As a life-long Spider-Man fan (from the Marvel comics mainly, old reprints of Stan Lee & Steve Dikto issues as well as a lot of 90s ones onwards) and Spider-Verse fan (strongly recommend the Dan Slott comic series, collected for best read), I'll definitely be buying these.
Spider-Punk's hair as Hobie Brown represents the mandem so as a fellow Londoner I'm happy to see my boy done up good, but really they're all great, especially with alternative designs to really distinguish the movie versions amongt the already existing minifigs of some chracters. I'm guessing Spider-Man Noir will definitely reappear in the third movie and so (hopefully on a second wave of these minifigs) we'll finally have one made available.
(Still a wee bit gutted that Silk didn't even make it to the Spider-Verse movies and thus no minifig but fingers crossed one day....)

No, they will complain about every missing character, obscure characters that are included, prints that aren’t perfect, incorrect facial expressions or hairpieces, re-used heads, lack of dual-molding, the prices, the blind boxes that you can’t ‘feel’ anymore, etc….."
Response has seemed to be very positive here, though this series doesn’t speak to me. Perhaps hold the tired straw man “Bricksetters are awful” critique until actually applicable?
Saw those mining bases & instantly thought Ninjago Modulars. Not quite sure how just yet…

What about Spectacular? Sensational? Superior? Ultimate, even?

You neglected to mention the Spider-Cat and Spider-Horse.

Seconding that. Besides, they were done by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. You know, the guys who did The Lego Movie?
Love all these. Looking forward to picking them up. Scanning the boxes in shops with my son will be fun too. Thanks for the review
Nice review thanks.. I only want one piece haha! Gwen’s hair!

You know... Spider-Man... Legendary friendly neighbourhood wall crawler?"
"Alright, let's do this ONE MORE TIME, okay?"
"
Where ya comin' from?"
You have to be a 'Merican of a certain age to have watched Spider-Man on The Electric Company on PBS.
I'm told by internets that you might also possibly be old and have watched it in Australia. But, that's a made up land anyway.

Yeah, I'm man enough to admit that you lost me with that one - though I may not be Spider-Man enough. I really thought the next step would involve the words "does", "whatever", "spider" and "can".
Are there spider-does in this can? Whatever!

I don’t get all this love for Spider-Man. Call me when we’re ready to talk Darkman and Condorman.

Ever hero needs a theme song:
Spider-Man, Spider-Man,
Where are you coming from?
Spider-Man
Nobody knows who you are!
We even took a break in my first grade class to watch The Electric Company during school. Only the best American public education.

Darkman! I know of him. Recurring midboss in Mega Man 4, right? I don't remember what he was weak to, but presumably it was "being shot in the face".
Condorman, I'm guessing, does whatever a condor can. Which is... being endangered, nearly extinct?
I don't really see a CMF happening for these dapper souls any time soon.

SPOILER ALERT: It's mostly falling.
I found these out a little early and got the Gwen figure. I like it but my biggest issue is the hair means you can't pose her looking in other directions.
The other figs largely don't interest me (well, not enough for £3.50 a go) and I'm sad they didn't add Doc Ock, a criminally-undermerchandised character from the first film considering how important she was.
I already pre-ordered a full set even though I haven't seen this or care that much about Spider-man. But these look pretty solid overall. I like the details included. I'm just glad I don't need duplicates of anyone like some army building series.
I wish they made the Spider T-Rex costume figure
I like the idea of this, and certainly hope for more for other spider-people for all the webheads out there. But I need Japanese Spiderman and scarlet spider.
