Doesn’t look like a lot of fun to play with.

By in Hungary,

I had this as a kid. I always thought the stickers on the flying off core were meant to represent eyes, until I found out they're the profiles of the driver...

I think I honestly prefer your take on it. Weird living cyber cars sounds way more fun

The stickers depict drivers on the inside of the things that get launched. That's gonna be some whiplash, probably some slipped disks, and most definitely a concussion, I don't care how good your seatbelt, neckbrace, or rollcage is. It may all keep you alive, but you'll probably still wish for death.

There are 4 reviews all saying difficult to get any real play value out of these, which may explain why the 2nd hand price after 25 years is similar to the original price.

A little bit the last Competition/Cyber Slam set if you will so. Though the colors went a lot less interesting from Teal and Purple or Teal/Orange and Purple/Lime to just red/green.

Oddly the "cars" use the single mold hard plastic wheels instead of regular rubber ones.

The last year of "original" Technic was a weird one with an odd mix of continuing the "Create N' Race" theme from 2000 (but with really few sets) and then 2 larger sets for the summer wave with their own unique color. Guess they put almost all effort into Bionicle (which was marketed as "Technic" for the first year) back then. 2000 also marked the point where we'd see Technic figures for the last time.

It took me a while to actually see what I was looking at......fun concept but rather confusing box art....

I thought so, that's why I added it to my wanted list.

A sad day.

There was a Technic fig in 8463 in 2001. It's a re-release, sure, but still.

I don't think these are the battle cars Alfred Pennyworth was referring to in TLM2.

We've recently seen too many licensed vehicles and regular cars in Technic. it's time we go back to sets like these to play with.

And this is why I don’t understand anyone driving a Smartcar in Detroit. They paint them like soccer balls for a reason, people!

I'm late to the party. I like the play focussed design of these and it's fun that you can build an alternate version that makes the arms hit a bar that allows the cars to launch their own cockpit. It also was and still is quite affordable. That said, I think Competition was a lot more fun, and as far as functionality goes these are quite basic. Oh, and you would get a lot more out of the Rahi from Bionicle!
