Quick look: 42658 Unicorn & Flamingo Pool Party

Posted by ,

Another pocket money set in the second wave of Friends is 42658 Unicorn & Flamingo Pool Party. While this small set doesn't have a light brick, it does include Leo's pet (and fan favourite) Churro, so perhaps it all balances out.

Another fun pocket money set with some good brick built animals

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

Inside the box there are three numbered bags, two small instruction books, and a 8x8 round plate. Surprisingly enough, there are no stickers.

The Friends in this set are Leo and Liann. They're both dressed for a pool party. I especially like Liann's asymmetrical crop top with leaf fasteners. It also looks like she's wearing goggles for the party. I have to admit that I had to double-check the focus on this picture, as the printing for the goggles looks a bit smudged.

Churro is as dispassionate as ever, but this time comes equipped with sunglasses.

There are two floaties included in the set, the first being a small unicorn floatie intended for Churro. However, an interloper got there first.

(Note: floating riding sloth not included in this set.)

The flamingo floatie is built for two, and has the bonus of having two ice pops on board so the Friends have some refreshments.

Completing the scene is a DJ booth, complete with speakers, microphone, and record player, that resembles an enormous pineapple. When the Friends get tired of dancing or floating, there's a chaise lounge for laying the sun. Always the responsible sunbathers, there's a supply of sunscreen close by.

It looks like someone could have used some sunscreen!

(Note: potentially sunburnt sloth not included in this set.)

Overall thoughts

For $10, this is a set that has a lot of play value (even if it doesn't have a light brick!). I like that there are two minidolls, plus Churro. This set fits in well with other summer-themed sets of this wave.

By in Netherlands,

I bought this set for my niece; she likes unicorns and I like cats, so I thought it was a great little gift. Safe to say that it was well received, and as a small budget surprise gift it fits the bill perfectly.

I genuinely thought Liann was rocking a Dia de los Muertos sugarskull-facepaint.

It has three numbered bags?? That's amazing considering the size. Very cute set, lots to like here.

* Potentially * Sunburnt * Sloth *

And there's my new band name.

Nice mini-review, and the potentially sunburnt sloth tops it off *applauds*

Friends sets are so much fun in a generally affordable package.

I think Liann is wearing sunglasses instead of swimming goggles, the set looks like it's going more for "relaxing by the pool" than "swimming in the pool".

It's nice to see the ice pop / popsicle element in more opaque colours, it's pretty rare to see!

think how much more awesome this set would be without that terminal "o" in flamingo.

That flamingo floatie reminds me of the swan one in 41447.

People who eat popsicles in pools concern me. You're not worried that your treat will melt and contaminate your pool?

A couple of hot-tub Stormtroopers would look great in that flamingo floatie!

Yeah, but to get a couple, you'd have to spend a big chunk of change. Even if you don't buy 75419, that guy ain't going to be cheap on the aftermarket (unless he gets put in an Advent Calendar or something), and wanting more than one is going to jack that price up even higher.
