Today's random set is 3427 NBA Slam Dunk, released during 2003. It's one of 55 Sports sets produced that year. It contains 53 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$8/£4.99.

It's owned by 1,022 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $55.40, or eBay.

By in United States,

I like the inclusion of the skateboard. That implies it could be used for trick shots as part of a dunking contest.

Ah, one of the only Sports sets I ever bought. I liked the urban-ness of this set, with the fence and the skateboard, it's the kind of scene that would fit neatly into a Lego City scene without too much trouble.

Maybe the real Random Minifigure was the friends we made along the way

I guess this is going to have to double for RMotD?

Not much better than yesterday's RSotD. At least for this one you can kind of make out what's included.

I bought the only basketball Sports set I have, 3431, for similar reasons.

I was today years old when I learned they once produced that fence in black. This is the only set it came in (not counting the "special edition" tubs).

By in Germany,

That is some serious saturation issue in the photo. The violet on the minifig looks like dark blue (and the skateboard looks awkward too).

Those NBA figs were funny though.

Is this the only time that Freestyle/Creator-esque fence piece was used in a regular System/Minifig theme?

By in Turkey,

I didn't get any sports sets, by choice. They didn't fit with my idea of town layout. Funny enough, I was given a whole line of soccer sets by my cousin when he grew too old for Lego (as if there is such a thing). Pfft, "Too old for Lego"...

No, it’s been in loads of System sets, in both white and brown.

It's still been the first time here :D

Whoah... I wasn't aware it's still current. Nor that it was introduced with the 2000 Mickey Mouse line.

It would be interesting to try out those spring loaded legs to see what advantage they gave the minifig in basketball. There is also a dustbin for the ultimate trick shot.

A slam dunk of a set.

Funnily enough I have that minifig even though I don't have the set. I think I bought it together with a parts order on Bricklink once, just out of curiosity for the legs, which I had never seen before.

No Random Minifigure of the Day, because Huwbot knows this set contains a magnificent example of a Random Minifigure.

This set jumped so 43010 could faceplant.

Or also because Huwbot figured it could get lost amongst all the other articles from yesterday. Can’t have RMotD’s haphazardly roaming around. :)

Man, Sports was a weird theme.

I think this is the best small set of the subtheme. All the others do less with environment such as this set's fence and skateboard. Those really help set the scene. Of course, the mid sized and larger ones are full basketball courts so those won't have to worry about lacking scenery.
