That's a great piece of cover art for the set. I can just hear Mark Hamill's laugh as the Joker with how he's just flailing around on that ladder.

The helicopter's about the best thing in this set. There are much better versions of all three characters, and I never really liked this Batwing design. But if you take the Batman minifig and swap all the black parts for dark-blue, it makes a very convincing Jim Lee Batman.

@MCLegoboy:
Funny you should mention that. The Joker torso does appear to be based on the B:TAS character design, but with the wrong color gloves (should be white). The hair, on the other hand, is all wrong. You can compare the design to the Joker in 76271 to see how similar they are.

I just took this one off my wanted list. I have 70916 and 76265, but of which are better Batwings, IMJO.

OG LEGO Batman designs really ride that line between "dated" and "classic."

I tend to agree.

I bought this as soon as it came out, because it was a Batwing, and I was just so overjoyed to finally have one in Lego. But the wings are oddly-spindly (and I don't know why they split in half like that), and I agree, there have been much better attempts at Batwings since then.

By in Turkey,

When it comes to Batman, I'm mostly a car guy I guess. I like batmobiles better than batwings.

Man, this set is so iconic, possibly _the_ most iconic set of the original 2006-08 Batman theme. I never owned it, but holy bricks Batman I wanted it.

Shout out to 6863 for trying to recapture the magic.

So do Lego designers, apparently. There’s currently a little over three times as many sets tagged on Brickset for “Batmobile” as there are for “The Batwing.”

Such a peak set. Almost all of the sets in the original Batman theme were so awesome.

I had this set as a child! I loved how large and shaped the batwing was, and the display stand it came with.

The Joker minifig sat displayed on my shelf for so many years his face turned yellow...

Great memories with the OG Batman line :)

From the initial Batman line, I only bought the Batmobile with Two-Face and his armored transport. Looking back, I wished I had bought this, too.

The only minifig-scaled Batwing set I own is 76120 Batwing and Riddler Heist. I'm content with that version of the Batwing. Like @Lego_lord said, I am a Batmobile guy and own way more Batmobiles and Bat vehicles with wheels.

The Batwing is really more like the Flatwing in this, huh?

By in Netherlands,

This batwing looks stunning on a stand. It looks like an elongated batman logo, but the longer shape helps the vehicle to look faster.

And yes, this set is a classic. I love how at this time lego put pop-up weapons on the various villain vehicles. They're a fun play feature and personally I love building compact hidden compartments or weapons, waiting to be opened. The helicopter is even multifunctional because it also drops laugh bombs.

I owned this one briefly but I bought it to be sold off because I found it at a good deal second-hand hears ago. Because BOY are the original Batman sets EXPENSIVE now! On the one hand I would have loved to own it, but at the price it goes for and with the pristineness of the set I had, I felt bad even handling those bricks. I hope the current owner takes good care of it but also shows it love.

Had this one! Beautiful and huge display "spaceship"! Even Joker and Batman minifigs are great!

I own five Batwings and eleven Batmobiles, in both cases including mini versions. But that's not an indication of which I prefer, it's an indication of which one Lego makes more of.

I got this in a bulk buy without instructions and it took forever to figure out how to put it together because the scanned PDF's on BrickSet are horrible and it was hard to tell where the parts for each step were added to the model. My son had it on display in his room and it recently fell off the shelf. I am not looking forward to putting it back together. Maybe I'll spring for the print instructions.

This is the official PDF, which appears to be repeated on Rebrickable. Peeron doesn’t have that set scanned, and I don’t know of any other sources. If you were working from the official one, you’re right, that is utter garbage. The only advantage is you can adjust the color, contrast, brightness, and zoom level because it’s on a computer. I didn’t download the Build app to this device, so I don’t know if that’s any better, or if it even has this available. Ironically, I do have a second copy of these instructions…somewhere.
