I own this! This was one of the only Ninjago sets i owned for awhile. Never understood the popularity of the theme until I watched the show after hearing how much better it was compared to the movie. They were right. Monster Trucks, Jets, Motorcycles, Skeletons, Snakes, Robots, and Ninjas with Elemental Powers; it's bonkers but it works.

I love little Ninjago dragons that can be had for fifteen bucks or less. I wish I'd picked this one up.

I was thinking that as bad as the Ninjago Movie is it has aged better than TLM2. Its terrible plot still makes more sense than the time-travel existential fourth-wall-breaking dumpster fire of The Second Part, and spawned some amazing sets. Apart from 70840 none of the other sets for TLM2 are fondly remembered.

This was my first dragon! Got it as a GWP and still have it assembled.

I dunno, 70841 was pretty awesome.

As sad as it is that this is our only physical representation of Kai’s Elemental Dragon (barring the Fusion Dragon), at least it DID get a set. Not like Nya’s Elemental Dragon, or the Hunted Dragons Kai and Zane rode, or various other cool creatures and vehicles that never got sets.

By in Turkey,

I got two of this as GWP, but used the parts and the figure in other projects.

By in United States,

With those giant eyes, I've always pictured that dragon as either completely bonkers or in a state of constant shock.

This is one of I think 3 sets that my family has 3 copies of: my brother, my dad, and I each have one; we all got it as a GWP when we made separate purchases at the LEGO Store. Nice, cheap way to get Kai Skybound.

It saddens me that we never got proper sets for all the elemental dragons. I remember hoping for an "Elemental Dragon bucket" set back in 2015, akin to 7159, with parts for 3-4 dragons and their elemental masters. 4 dragons in 4 colors (e.g., Fire, Metal, Nature, and Form) in one set would've been awesome.

At least TLM2 is forgettable. I don't even remember any quotes from it. On the other hand, I am constantly reminded of TLNM's existence every time I look at a modern Ninjago set, as the repercussions from that film can still be seen to this day. And I despise it for that. 8 years later, no matter how well or poorly it ages, TLNM's withered claw hands will continue to leave their ridiculous marks upon the show....

Also, there were quite a few good TLM2 sets; perhaps not many memorable ones, but solid nonetheless. Not 70839, though.

Each to their own, I thought that 70839 was hilarious, bought it and still enjoy swooshing it about occasionally. Admittedly, it isn't the most solid or stable set, but it is fun. On the other hand I do agree with your opinion on TLNM.

Forgettable? My ears say otherwise. The two Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi songs are absolute banger ear worms. (Ironically, “This Song’s Gonna Get Stuck Inside Your Head”, explicitly designed to be an ear worm, fails at that.)

But since I know I didn't buy them I must have gotten them as a GWP at some point.

I bought three! But TLM2 also gave us 70821 (sure, it's 4+, but the spaceship was a nice little homage to 924), 70828 (great light brick function), 70830 (some great shaping, and just a very swooshable spaceship), and 70848 ("My leg is a piano!")

I disagree with you on "Catchy Song," but not "Not Evil" ("Oh no, are we in a musical? "Hope not.") and "Gotham City Guys." (Oh, great. More singing, right on time") I can't tell you how many times I've listened to the TLM2 soundtrack. Besides that, I consider TLNM to be the weakest of the four (my overall ranking would be TLM, TLBM, TLM2, TLNM), but I think all four are enjoyable watches. I just wish the planned TLBM2 had come out!

By in United States,

Man, all I said was that the show was better than the movie, and that it helped me understand the appeal of Ninjago, I didn't say that anything was bad. Sure, the implication is there, and I don't think The Ninjago Movie is very good, but it has its merits. However, it doesn't really sell you on the premise of the show, the thing that helped make Ninjago popular enough to have a dedicated movie to an original LEGO theme that wasn't just some direct to home DVD. The show has the time necessary to explore all the characters, give them more exciting things to do, and while quality can rise and fall with each Season, it was a fun watch getting caught up. I never expected a LEGO show to be as good as it was given how crude some of the animation looked, but the writing is what made it last.
The hate toward The LEGO Movie 2 feels very unwarranted especially since I never brought it up. I also love it, and have since day one. The movie is about the existentialism of growing up, feeling like you have to make things grittier and meaner because you're able to better understand more complex ideas, except Finn is still only 13. Teenagers think they know everything about everything, they're so mature, but they're still just kids. I also don't have a sibling, but I remember playing plenty of board games with my mom, but as I got older it just kind of stopped. All Bianca wants to do is spend some time with her brother, and he's just shutting her out because he's "all grown up." Maybe it's because I'm more connected with the feminine side of myself because of My Little Pony's big phenomenon that was Friendship is Magic, but I loved seeing Bianca's side of things over Finn's angst. The music was also a ton of fun, I've listened to the soundtrack plenty of times, and it's great.
And if you want to talk sets, fantastic recolors in 30460, 70827 is pretty fun and Unikitty is my favorite LEGO Movie character, the functions in 70828 are wonderful, and the bulk of teal, coral, and trans purple are great, and 70837 is a great parts pack with multiple trans-light blue pieces, but also comes with some other wonderful gems, too, and of course I had to pick up 70841 because SPACE! I'm a big Star Wars guy, I typically don't deviate in my LEGO purchases. I'm also often never persuaded to pick up the toys I'm being peddled in oversized commercials disguised as TV shows, and while that's not entirely the case with The LEGO Movie 2, I was moved enough to pick up a number of the sets for one reason or another.
This tiny dragon is still the only thing I have from the main Ninjago theme, and it's because it was a gift with purchase I wasn't even trying to get. I've enjoyed the show, but not to the point where I'm like, "Yes, I must have that set, it was so cool when it did this and that." When it comes to The LEGO Ninjago Moive, I only ever heard the praises of the sets despite the quality of the movie. I did pick up 70612 for the Sand Green and Gold, and I had hands on experience with the set from the LEGO Store. I did also get six copies of the polybag version 30428, as well as two of 30379 purely for the parts, and they were about all I could find of any interest while Toys R Us was shutting down and having their closing sales.
So you want to talk about what's good and what's not? Well that's my story.

Only for being the first and still only way to get the Pink classic spaceman...it will be remembered for its impact on classic space, not its affiliation with the Lego movie 2

I’ve always loved 70823. Not entirely sure why, but I have. Another thing that TLM2 sets did so well are polybags. There were so many! And, tbh, I only remember like one or two being bad.

Oh yeah, no, I thought 70839 was a hilarious and pretty cool concept as well; my comment was a partial joke on it not being a solid set, because I vaguely remembered reviews saying it was flaky.

To each their own, I guess. I don't remember any of the songs from TLM2 at all. Just that the supposedly catchy one wasn't. Probably because I hate both musicals and modern pop music in general, and I only saw the movie once, so none of the music had a chance to stick with me.

@MCLegoboy: I don't hate TLM2, it just didn't really have an impact on me. Possibly because the movie's message didn't apply to me (I have three brothers, and we were all teenagers playing with LEGO at that time), possibly because TLNM killed my enthusiasm for LEGO movies, but most probably because 2019 was the Year of Death for me in college, and I did not have enough free time or mental capacity to think about movies (other than Endgame, of course). I think I liked it more when it came out, but over time I haven't felt inclined to revisit it.

Got given this for free at a lego event at Lyndenhurst mansion when I was a kid, the local lego store was giving them out, along with a really cool lego star wars general grievous t-shirt (barely just fits me still)
I was an exhibitor too, we were showing off our First Lego League robot :)

No, Kai usually does quite well in getting his stuff in sets. Rather too well, in fact, since he’s given stuff that in the show and sorts either doesn’t or shouldn’t belong to him (lookin’ at you 71720). Honestly, except for this dragon being so dinky and his dragon from Hunted not getting a set at all (unless 30535 is supposed to be it?) Kai isn’t missing anything I can recall offhand.

Nya, on the other hand…

What I was saying is Kai vehicles take up pretty much every slot, especially Nya vehicles. I can think of at least like 3 examples from the past few years that should have been hers and not Kai’s or even Jay’s (EVO race car). Either way, it’s gotten so bad that nowadays Kai sets get passed around to whichever neglected character needs a vehicle next.

I just rewatched it a couple weeks ago, and that was the only song I actually recognized. Can’t remember the lyrics, or even the tune at this point, but it really stood out on the first viewing for trying so incredibly hard to be the next Everything Is Awesome…and not quite getting there.
