dont get me wrong, drag racing is dangerous- but this is just taking it a bit far. drivers literally look like they will be thrown out of the darn thing as they start

Looks like if set designers were tasked with getting rid of excess parts inventory

You should check out the planes from that era of Lego.

Well now I am curious if any set has the year it was released as it's number.

By in New Zealand,

And we have:

1993 - Released in 1993

And two only one year out.

1983 - released in 1984
1992 - released in 1993

By in Turkey,

Sometimes designs take a step back. I think 6591, released in 1989, has better looking dragsters.

This was LEGO's policy back then. The smaller sets had very little pieces as they were meant to be the affordable entry into LEGO for parents. The larger & well constructed (expensive) sets were in most cases Christmas or Birthday presents for the average family.

Careful you don’t spill any wine from those goblets you’ve got there boys!

By in Netherlands,

Never knew Lego would release a set based on Drag Race. Oh wait…

Yeah. No Ru Paul minifig. Pure disappointment.

By in Germany,

These look quite tame. Then again what do you expect, with them apparently only having two-cylinder engines. Maybe they're training dragsters for kids ;-)

By in Germany,

I have the 6526 Redline Racer. A friend had this ones. Good times.

By in Poland,

Seeing the Lego System logo always puts a smile on my face, not unlike the one on these traditional head pieces.

I’m well aware of Lego sets being only for birthday/Christmas presents back then, I was around :D

Yep! In the 90s, I only got a big set for Christmas or my birthday!

By in United States,

Same here! That was my golden era of LEGO, the 90s, and I only collect system sets now.

Ahh, a simpler time.

Well, a similar trick did make Takumi Fujiwara pretty much unbeatable in street racing!

By in United Kingdom,

I wonder what happened to number 1? Maybe frame fell apart and still sitting on the tarmac somewhere, or the road just wasn't wide enough for all three.

Insert Krennic meme: "We were on the verge of greatness. We were this close."

That might explain the undersized rear wheels, too.

One of my less liked old race sets. Lots of the little cars were solid, but I've never bothered building more of these. Sometimes I turn these into Town snowplows.

By in Netherlands,

I knew I recognized it! After we got 1991 Racing Truck as a RSotD (which I noted technically predicted the current flag of Russia) a while ago I learned of the combination set it was a part of. Today's set is also from said combo pack, hence the similar set number. The set number of the combo pack was 1993 btw.

Technically... it was, being a part of 1993 combo pack. All of its constituent sets are, actually.

Nah, just part of the minifigs. Those skinny bars on the sides are going to rip their legs right off in a crash, kinda like what happens to commercial airline passengers’ feet.

Ah, simpler times. When Lego Town was populated mostly by race-car drivers, policemen, and firemen.

Tragically, these race cars must have been as unsafe as they look. The race-car drivers have become fairly scarce in Lego City, while the populations of policemen and firemen are still going strong.

By in Canada,

Normally, I'd praise the "Thill for Gig" part (https://brickset.com/parts/design-49134), but...in this case...I mean; yes, it's a more 'primitive' time, but man how far we come from 'here' (esp. sets 30663 Space Hoverbike and 30664 Police Off-Road Buggy Car)...I'm still 'eyeballing' making speederbikes and swoops outta' these things.:D
