Double Star Wars! (And the set itself is, too!)

Oh man I just watched the MandR review of the tie crawler 7664 and I feel like its the only one that can pull off the black & blue color scheme

Crazy it took 20 years for a remake.

I was gonna say the same thing. The new one was such a great set, too.

Such a cool set, despite the limited parts and the weird blue color scheme Lego used for the first wave of imperial ships.

Also interesting to note that it was 13c ppp, and adjusted for inflation it was actually almost 22c ppp. But of course that can't be, because over the past 20-25 years "Lego has gotten so much more expensive!!!"

In Episode V, the TIEs were painted a blueish grey. (Storm grey it's called I believe.) And after color grading they have even more of a blue tint. If you look at the old Kenner TIE for 'Jedi' it was also made blue.

By in Isle Of Man,

Great set of a great ship, loved flying it around and launching missiles at those puny rebels :)

By in United States,

One of the sets that has an official Brickset review that was published years and years after it came out. But it's not the longest gap between release and review, that would probably be 5988.

In "fairness", this wasn't filled with tiny 1x1 pieces like a lot of LEGO sets now. This had actual bricks!

By in United Kingdom,

One of the older sets where it’s blockiness is part of its charm; I feel like it only makes sense for a ship designed for bombardment rather than dogfights to be a chunky, heavy-duty looking thing

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Love this thing to bits. The missle on one side and bomb dropping mechanism on the other is just good use of space. 2003 had some great Star Wars sets. It helps that it's a proper play set.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Blue feels more accurate to what you see on screen than gray. I miss when LEGO designers made sets capturing the look and feel something had in a movie, rather than capturing every teeny, insignificant detail of a studio model or other behind the scenes artwork.

By in France,

I remember that when I started collecting SW sets, about 18 years ago now, I was dreaming about this one, just as it is. It has been with a great joy and delight that I learned the release of the latest version, here on Brickset, some time ago. It was worth the wait!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

For 2003, in retrospect, this is a killer set. Great build, very accurate for pieces available, great figure, great play feature with the shooter and bombing.

It’s like Star Wars and Classic Space had a baby.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I guess you could call this classic Star Wars with original Lego system. Works ok if you like the
homemade look but highlights why Lego needed curved slopes.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I so desperately wanted this set back in my Star Wars days. Took TLG way too long to come up with a new version!

I have this one, but its pieces were long ago since been sorted into organizers. When the review that I mentioned earlier posted, I thought, "They finally did a new one? It's about time!" Then I realized that the one shown in the article picture was the original. Then the article said "Following the long-awaited unveiling of 75347 TIE Bomber..." and I was like, "So they *did* do a new one!" Now

It is a rare thing when I have both the motd and sotd. But today it happened.

I don’t think anyone would look at this and think it’s made with un-chunky parts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

why couldn't we have had these on may the forth

Gravatar
By in United States,

all these old star wars sets are awesome but they don't make the pieces you need for them any more

Gravatar
By in United States,

the one in 75008 is cool minus it being tiny the new ones i don't have pieces to and the old ones i don't have pieces to and there's no 2018 tie bomber

Well, it’s nice it can pull something off given that it’s an even dumber design for an Imperial vehicle than is typical.

In "fairness," today's sets (aside from Dots and some Art sets) aren't filled with tiny 1x1 pieces. Tthey have a mix including lots of new molds and often quite large curved slopes, windscreens, and more. And in "fairness," the number-one market driver of increasingly detailed building styles are the same AFOLs who make kneejerk, evidence-free "more expensive now -boo!" claims, most of whom would not touch a Speed Champions or Star Wars set built with only early 2000s parts and building techniques with a 10 foot pole.

I think this set deserves 1st place when it comes to nostalgia. I, of course, didn't grow up with the old 2002 bomber. But, its super cool.

It's happened to me several times. Back before RPotD went on indefinite hiatus, I even had all three on three different days.

By in Switzerland,

I remember standing in front of the shelves in Real countless times as a kid not being able to afford it but thinking it's super cool (had only the Naboo Fighter at the time).

It’s not a sad memory at all, I loved SW sets from that era, they had such a charm.

If I remember correctly, the printed doors are the only significantly difficult parts to source from this one.

MandR gets what he wants. Bunch of pissed off viewers, commenting, subscribing, pushing the YouTube algorithm, and monetizing the crap out of his channel. Ragebait is the easiest way to make money over there.
