What even is a Nex anyway? The 1.0 heroes, I could at least get it with their names and powers and such, but what is a Nex?

It's a pun. "Next to" (fill in the blank)

Nex and evo were introduced in hero factory's 2011 story, as the first heroes built with an enhanced design, next and evo stand for NEXt EVOlution

By in Australia,

Sometimes I wish I'd bought more of the Hero Factory big characters, just for interest and variety sake.

But I followed Bionicle until the story got too ridiculous, buying the occasional figure for novelty sake, so I really didn't need to do that again.

I liked a lot of the HF villain figures, and I thought they were great (despite the scale. Hell, because of the scale, they were great monsters to terrorise my Lego city, and force the intervention of my Lego superhero league). But the hero figures were just, meh.

Having said that, I did eventually collect all the minifig-size Hero Factory characters when they came out in 2014. They were cool. I liked them.

The 2.0 models were great! I have each of the heroes from 2.0 however I think it was the 3.0 beast forms that looked pretty bad to my eye, just didn’t feel as cool

I have a lot of the HF constraction figures (including this one), but I really wish I'd gotten all of the minifig-scale sets.

Well, this one is 2.0, so it's the Next Nex.

I wish Nex, Evo, and Rocka had gotten 1.0 figures. At least they got the helmets later on, but it would’ve been a cool novelty to have them in the original style as well.

By in United Kingdom,

Looking at the instructions it seems his jaws of life there are completely static. That’s disappointing, I thought they might be able to actually pinch

I mean they kinda did Nex dirty and he didn't get featured a whole lot. All the 2.0 Heroes were kinda samey builds, but it was still decent and I liked the orange and green color scheme Nex had going.

The material was a softer and thinner plastic on the pincer side, so you could for brief times during play. Granted, I was gentler with my toys than many children, but I never had issues with it.

I got this set incomplete from a neighbor(along with other hero factory figures) although my brother also had two due to a rare gift double up. I loved the interchangeability of the armor, cores/heads, and for phase 2, helmet accessories. While I liked Nex, I wasn't the biggest fan of how exposed he was with his smaller armor plating. While I did get him incomplete, I was lucky enough to get him with one of the trans dark blue lightsaber blades, which were I believe exclusive to Hero Factory.

31 pretty specialized and large-ish pieces for 12 bucks in today's money?

I don't think so, would be a 25 dollar set in 2026.

That's not how jaws of life are supposed to work. They pry, not pinch. Although, in non-motorized form, there's no functional difference.

Ah but to pry you must first pinch or you get no purchase

By in Netherlands,

Nex was a bit forgettable to me. At least EVO was a more vibrant yellow and came with purple highlights.

We can't all stand out when the whole wave looks like this though. That said, in hindsight the two had the best 'head insert' parts. I just never felt much for them because the other heroes got 'heads' and tools that were completely different from their 2.0 versions to the point where they all might as well be new characters. The Breakout wave giving NEX and EVO a new proper helmet calling back to their 2.0 'heads' did a lot to remedy that.

By in United States,

I have been slowly recollecting Hero Factory sets over the last couple years since coming back from my last dark age. It's one of my childhood favorite themes that I can't help but have a soft spot for! I remember prioritizing Nex and Evo as the new characters for this wave.

I actually just completed the Ordeal of Fire wave by finally getting 2235-1 Fire Lord. I think this line gets overshadowed for me by the other earlier waves, but there's still a lot to love!

By in France,

My very first CCBS set, bought with Nitroblast. One of the better 2.0 heroes in my opinion due to the colors and arrangement of the shells

I'm fun at parties, but LORE POST, Nex and 2067 Evo were created for the 2.0 line both in and out of universe. The existing characters had to undergo extensive surgery but there was really never a Nex, Rocka, or Evo 2.0.
