Man, I wish LEGO still did these for City.

They'd cost like $60 now but still

By in United States,

I loved this set. Combined with 40236 and some extra fences and street lights it made a really nice park

By in United States,

All those minifigs, and yet, with the exception of some dark blue legs, not a single one contains parts that are useful for me to create a sigfig.

TLG REALLY needs to make these again!

It's not often that a Lego set explicitly suggests that you swap parts between the minifigs, but this one did! Other notable things about this set: first minifig wheelchair (a big part of the reason I bought this set; even though I wasn't in a wheelchair yet, I liked the disability representation), and the start of a bigger story: https://brickset.com/article/54967/clues-to-the-minifig-s-lifecycle-uncovered-in-city-sets

I wish I'd gotten all the People Packs, and not just this one.

40221 makes another nice addition to that park, especially since its bench is so similar.

By in Australia,

It is frustrating that there are so few regular minifigs in moderately priced in-house themes (apart from Ninjago, which has great selections). The small vehicle CITY sets have one, maybe two figs if you're lucky - usually themed around the vehicle - and then there's a jump to the big sets. CITY and Creator don't seem to do the building-oriented mid level sets with varied minifigs either for the most part. Sets like this used to be a great way to populate scenes if Collectible Minifigs are not your thing, and in Australia Build a Minifigs are pretty expensive.

Got these as a job lot comprising of 60134, 31051, 60119 & 2x 31052 for £50 when second hand Lego used to be cheap!

By in Canada,

Back in the days, it was somewhat hard to get some of these parts (in affordable sets). Now, you can go on PaB, type 60134 and you'll be able to source roughly 70% of this set directly from Lego. Some parts may have a new number, so if you dig deeper, you may get near the whole set.

Still, I wish I had bought them all. I only got 60234-1.

I miss these so much. I guess LEGO was worried we would get used to great deals so they stopped.

By in United States,

There were three notable things about this set, to me, besides it being the largest minifig pack in recent history at the time: it was the debut of both the wheelchair mold and the baby figure (2 molds), and it was the first time I recall seeing a torso from a licensed set reused in a non-licensed set. The wheelchair guy's torso (https://brickset.com/parts/6153512/mini-upper-part-no-3451) is identical to Zach Mitchell's torso in 75919 (https://brickset.com/parts/6117141/mini-upper-part-no-3053 ), except the hands are a different color. I hadn't seen that before, and I'm not sure I've seen it since. It makes sense to keep it; it's a good generic print. It has even survived to the present day!

By in Australia,

Awesome set, I got two.

I'll never understand why they stopped making these, they were great and very useful.

As others have rightly said, its surprisingly difficult to get ordinary civilian minifigures. Even when they do come in sets I find the current ones usually too specific to that individual character.

With the People Packs it was annoying they went specific too quickly. As an Australian fun at the beach was cool, but not everyone can relate to the beach and such figures are only useful in a beach or pool setting.

Arguably even worse was the outdoor/camping one which was again a very geographically specific location that dictates minifigures suited to that place that are less likely to be useable elsewhere.

They should have done some more general city ones like Fun at the Mall (people shopping) or Fun at the Market (European style market with stalls like in Winter Village Market).

Those are assuming of course one even needs a "Fun At The..." title. Couldve just called them City people packs.

There was a space one too which was pretty good (not useful for city civilians but good to help have more staff at your space centre or astronauts etc.)

Even police or fire wouldve been good (in addition to civilians) to have more officers/firemen (including unique roles like a detective or hazmat for example)

One green baseplate, and you have an absolutely brilliant Lego park for your city.

By in Turkey,

Everytime I see a set like this, I remember passing on 6302, 6301 and 6309 at the time, because I wasn't collecting Town. Then again, I also didn't get 6702 or 6703 although I was an avid Classic Space fan. I don't know why, maybe they didn't have any space ships or rovers? But I certainly didn't miss 70841 Benny's Space Squad. Even got multiples. Just in case...

No-neck baby head. They changed the mold not too long after this.

The Classic Space bomber jacket came up in RXotD not too long ago, and it was noted that it appeared in one Spiderman set with flesh hands, but mostly it was used in non-licensed sets with yellow hands. I think there might be at least one Harry Potter torso that made the jump, but it would have been from the yellow era, so the hands wouldn't have changed. Same for the Rebel Technician torso. So there are definitely torsos that appear in both IP and in-house sets, but frequently the print is so mundane that they don't really draw your attention the way, say, seeing a Batman torso in a City set would (he did appear in a few TLM sets, but that's technically also a licensed theme).

By in United Kingdom,

I mean, the lovely 60326 Picnic in the Park was as recent as 2022. Yes it’s smaller, but I think personally splitting these larger people packs into more battle pack sized chunks might work better?

Although I agree with many here that ordinary looking figs can be hard to come by, I think I’d struggle to drop 40+ currency units on just figs with small builds.

Because selling mediocre sets with 1-2 minifigs is more profitable to TLG.
PaB is no real alternative either because you end up paying more for a generic figure than for a detailed CMF one.
I recommend second hand LEGO if you're not a diehard collector.

Agree to the size change. Half the size, a third of the price.

These people packs were great, but apparently, either not a hot selller or they ran out of ideas. Maybe the CMF series were competition, too.

If they were to release something similar today then it would probably cost £180 and contain a sand green classic spaceman.

I wanted this set SO badly, but I think it was a retailer exclusive in Australia. Literally impossible to find where I lived.

First set with the wheelchair and baby pieces as well.

By in United Kingdom,

Reminds me of how you expect advent calendar to be until every thing is downsized to meet $20 criteria. Although great battle pack, missing essentials like a slide, swing, sand pit etc. and where is there a bus stop in a Park? Friends (and even Fabuland 3676 ) always seemed to have the edge on parks like 41325 .

Phoenix Park in Dublin has a few bus stops in it. It's quite large though...probably need at least another hundred minifigs to populate it!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This is a lovely set. I even bought it on a slight discount at the time but my cash was so strapped I never opened it and ended up selling it. I kind of regret that.
It's rare to see City sets this focussed on civilian life and on leisure.

I ended up thinking that, as I'm not a minifigure fanatic this set isn't for me. But I think that this set with a 32x32 green baseplate would just be such a great vibe to have around :)

If I'm reading the map correctly, NYC's Central Park has at least eight bus stops on the perimeter, and another five inside the actual park. Nearby Riverside Park has at least two on its perimeter, Jefferson Park has one on the corner, and Morningside Park has one on the side. When a park is large enough, it's not just part of the local neighborhood. It's a destination for the surrounding city.

By in United States,

I can't remember which came out first; this set with the baby of the CMF with the baby. But either way, early baby grab. A decent selection of figs, although I think I prefer the Outdoor Adventures one more.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just found this set this weekend when I was adding more sets to the some-day-I-will-get-around-to-building-these pile!

Likely make a nice modular park with it and a few other sets to add to break up the modulars.

Luke's torso from 10123 and Jameson's from 4855 both saw a fair amount of use in City sets, even though the latter has light nougat printing at the neck.

The bald eagle may not have appeared again (BTW, I was on the way to a show a couple years ago, and had a real one fly about 10’ above my car), but the same mold was used to make a condor. Another problem is that the inner cavity of the feet is only designed to accept a stud, and I needed them to take bars as well. I figured out how to give the Black Falconer’s falcon feet, so I have a bunch carrying fish (one is a bit more ambitious than the rest, and is carrying a shark). But then I figured it would be even better to have an eagle join in, and my solution required a highly illegal technique, as I had to force a round peg into a square hole. Twice, because I also bought a condor.

Whoops, I meant Bespin Luke, not the Rebel Technician. That one appears to have stayed exclusive to SW.

They do now have that weird plate that has a stud on one side & claw for bars on the other. You could always switch to that…even though colors aren’t too great to act as bird feet.

The Ring-Pop? It’s easy enough to identify a bald eagle, but I checked with my LUG for the falcon, and consensus was that it’s supposed to be a peregrine falcon. Both of those birds have bright yellow feet. The falcon is also easy to add feet to. The stem of a standard minifig hand will fit up inside the cavity located within the molded feet. As long as you can figure out a prey item that a hand can grab (like a fish tail), there are plenty of clear parts that can be used to mount the prey item so the falcon looks like it’s flying. Offhand, I don’t remember what we came up with for the condor’s species, but the condor and eagle are the same mold. My idea was to use an Apollo stud for the ruff on the legs, and a robot claw for the feet. Problem is, the square cavity inside the molded feet is too small for a bar, so it makes them look like storks or cranes instead. Or it would have, if I hadn’t forced the connection. I wouldn’t really advise it, or I’d even suggest using a pin vise to drill out the inside a tiny bit (absolutely _NOT_ any sort of power drill), but this lets you pick a different color for the ruff and feet. For the eagle, it’s a reddish-brown Apollo stud and a yellow robot claw. For the condor, I used red for both parts, so I’m thinking California Condor, Andean Condor, or Red-Headed Vulture was the species we identified.
