I wonder what happened to Karlof after the merge. I liked him. He was just a silly brute, but he had some cool powers, but he's been mostly forgotten about. I hope he's doing okay.

By in New Zealand,

The Tournament of Elements sets were as peak as the season.

I may need to look into some Ninjago minifigs to make some Purple Dragon gang members for TMNT. Just started rewatching the 2003 series this week, and got reminded how significant a role they played.

Ah yes, the original non-Ninja Elemental Masters. Finally have figures for the Tournament of Elements group, still waiting on a few from the Serpentine War, and goodness knows when they’ll do more of the ones from the Tournament of the Sources. To say nothing of Lilly, Nyad, Zarkar…

This was the only Tournament of Elements set I was able to get, but it was worth it. Two other Elemental Masters! In fact, the only two to appear in sets that year, besides Skylor (unless you count Invizable and Toxikita, who appeared in Ultra Agents sets*). I remember when preliminary images of the Tournament of Elements sets first leaked, and people thought Karloff's name was "Hanlan". I'm still not sure where that name came from, although one of the voice actors for ToE was Ian Hanlin, who voiced Chope.

Anyways, good set, albeit slightly overpriced and not representing anything specific from the show. I like how, in the set image, Sleven is just on a different plane of existence from the rest of the set.

*Bringing Ultra Agents villains into Ninjago was interesting, and the first crossover Ninjago had (the Chima cameo happened in the following season). At the time I figured Astor City would work as one of the 16 realms, which would make Ultra Agents, Galaxy Squad, and by extension Monster Fighters all canon to Ninjago. That would've been awesome! But sadly, I'm guessing that possibility has been precluded by Dragons Rising, since the writers decided to turn Ninjago into an unholy lovechild of the bad endings of Thor: the Dark World and Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness.

Never saw this season of the show so this is effectively a LEGO Dimensions set to me. Flashback to the time when we were studying the Bruce Lee tournament movie and one student pointed out that Tournament of the Elements from Ninjago was based on the formula set up by that film. Down to the “don’t leave your hotel rooms” plot point.

By in Netherlands,

A really great set whch was sadly an 'exclusive' in my country (so it was sold basically nowhere except random local specialty toy stores).
A shame, because this set is the ony one from the year that depicted the actual tournament of elements itself. And Karloff and Griffin Turner are fun figs and characters. Especially the former had a large role in the show.

The set itself is nicely multileveled and features a nice trapdoor. The flags with the three combatants' emblems is a nice touch.

I suspect Karloff’s emblem is supposed to look like a pair of bicep-flexing arms, but man it really reminds me of the Toa Nuva symbols. Maybe that Pakari showing up isn’t the only crossover these two series about elementally powered warriors has had!

I'm pretty sure I've seen that plotline repeated in homage in a few other productions besides Ninjago.

i feel like that also i have wanted a "what happened to them after the merge" show for reasons like pythor, scales, the elemental masters, the overlord, garmadon and many many more

Season 4 was fairly good, but I never got any of the sets. My favorites were probably the two entry sets with Cole and Kai respectively. Now that I think about it, this was probably one of the more affordable waves in general! I always wanted to get titanium Zane but never got around to it. This set was a solid playset though, and it was nice that they put the elemental masters in a cheaper set.
