That must be some propeller.
Also that hat must be made of something else or he's got a plate in his skull. Youch!

By in United States,

It's actually a good thing that the rotor isn't actually big enough to lift that "helicopter." Because if it was, then as soon at the thing lifted off the ground, it would start spinning around in the opposite direction to the rotor.

I imagine it would be pretty terrifying to try navigating through caves with a helicopter.

By in New Zealand,

No wonder he remade the vehicle. He couldn't go anywhere with just one propeller on top.

By in United States,

Is the dude’s name Helicopter? Or is that thing supposed to able to transport a helicopter?

By in United States,

Is the helicopter in the room with us right now?

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

That is neither a helicopter nor is able to transport anything.

Ah, the late 90s. It was an interesting time for Lego.

By in Netherlands,

One of the Japan-exclusive Kabaya sets from Rock Raiders. They came as a promo with Kabaya sweets. Such sets are either rereleases of concurrent sets or strange builds such as this one.

That said, it's pretty nice for a boxed polybag-style set. This one came with a complete figure and multiple rare rock raider printed parts. This set of four had many, MANY combiner models and each also had an alt model too. I'd recommend R.R. Slugger's videos about these:

Gravity and physics could be different on whatever planet the Rock Raiders are on, maybe that thing could fly. Would still decapitate him and do a lot of spinning around but might fly!

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Not even for the parts... Well, maybe for the minifigure. It's different.

He's Docs after all (old Rock Raiders United post):

The Kabayas are the only sets I'm missing from Rock Raiders. More of a collector's novelty rather than anything else, but this set in particular is interesting as it's only one of 2 sets to include the printed Hover Scout plate (the other being 4980). Also the only Rock Raiders set with that small propeller.

By in Romania,

Obligatory mention of how we seldom get small sets like this anymore.

ROCK

RAIDERS!!!

I don't care. I don't care that this set makes no sense. I don't care that it's a tiny obscure polybag. It's Rock Raiders, and therefore I love it on principle.

Regarding the how the vehicle could fit into the lore, though... well, Docs here is the team's geologist, absolutely nowhere in his job description did it say he had to be good at designing modes of transportation. This was quite possibly his first and only attempt, and after he recovered from his injuries decided it was best to leave that task to people who had a bit more idea what they were doing than he did...

But you’d figure an actual doctor might be the first person to “waitaminnit” over using a spinning blade as a headrest.

Are we sure that "Docs" isn't just his given name or something?

Then he should know what a massive pain it is to fill out OSHA incident reports!

Have you heard the one about the masochist's dictionary? It has all the words, but they're not in alphabetical order.

"Docs is called Docs because he's more than one kind of doctor", as per his character bio in the High Adventure Deep Underground graphic novel. That said, as far as I know it never said anywhere that either of his doctorates were in medical science; one was definitely in geological science, but I don't believe canon material has ever elaborated upon what else he doctored in. He may well be the kind of guy who's a genius in His Specific Field(s) of expertise, and completely detached from reality in every other context.

Still though, that minifigure hat piece is pretty tall all things considered; so looking at the picture I think - not sure, but I *think* - that the top of Docs' head here would be juuuuust low enough to miss the blade itself. It would definitely leave one massive dent in his hat, though...

Certainly once he fires that thing up, his head would be lower than the blade.

There was a guy in my dorm who could out-Sheldon Sheldon Cooper. In four years, he triple-majored and double-minored in hard sciences, and that did not involve the copout triple combo of chemistry, biology, and bio-chem. I also remember him coming in to dinner one day, all excited because they’d managed to break the record for smallest measurement taken with a particle accelerator. And he could be doing math homework, composing a paper in his head, and still holding as much of a conversation as he was capable of, all at the same time. I got compared to Lazlo Hollyfeld by my friend group because of my personality, but this guy was the closest I’ve ever met to his intellect.
