First set with the modern Chewbacca!

It's most likely better than the 2008 set, but I wouldn't know because I had the 2008 version and I'm not big on remakes.
I will say this though, I still hate this version of Chewbacca. Dark Brown and Medium Nougat is not inaccurate to his colors, but the smooth transition between the colors of his fur is just not able to be replicated. Also giving him printed eyes and teeth feel like they are going too far. The Bandolier also gets chopped off instead of just going from shoulder to waist. I much prefer the original 2000-2013 design, and even more so in Old Brown. Simplicity is key for me.
That said, the Kashyyyk Trooper though, he looks awesome, and the battle pack with them was great. I will still always have a fondness for the Sand Green and Dark Bluish Gray of the original from 2005, but the Olive and Dark Brown with the camouflage print and that new helmet with the green visor, it looks so good.

Huwbot casually be choosing a peak set from the best era of Lego Star Wars.

This would almost be a battle pack were it not for the inclusion of the original Space Dad™.

$70 USD for a 400+ pc set with 2 minifigs feels not far from today’s crazy pricing

This is a great set! I thought abt looking for it until I saw the market value. might still try to bricklink it if the minifigs aren't off the wall

Looking into this more it is about 70 on brickowl and 300 on briklink so ¯\_(?)_/¯

Feels like a bit of a miss that the Kashyyyk scout has basically only been released with a speederbike once in over two decades. Definitely feels like a miss that the darn thing wasn't even attempting to look camouflaged.

No, this set hasn't been out for more than a decade, don't tell me that

That was the only reason I got it. Now I have a million of him, I realise the best thing about the set was actually the Scout Trooper.

Given we’ve had spider droids pop up there, could this guy also technically qualify for Random Fig of the Day?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It's not a bad set but I prefer 75233 due to the stickers and more circular top.

Bricklink doesn't catalog it as a minifig, so no.

That ship that appeared for a few seconds in the movie.

It was great to get a whole wave focussed on RotS back then because of the theatrical rereleases. 2014 was a good year for SW

I thought the same thing! Lego pricing is like video game pricing in that it's remained relatively stagnant despite decades of inflation. When it actually *does* reflect decades of inflation, fans (myself included) balk at it!

So, uh, this Droid Gunship is actually supposed to be a droid, not a vehicle piloted by a droid, right? IIRC the Droid Tri-Fighter is also supposed to be an autonomous unit, but LEGO likes to include Battle Droid pilots.

except for Spider Droids and Hyenas so idk

One of these days, I need to try building 2 of these, and 2 LAATI gunships. My clones and droids need some actual vehicles to pilot.

It's a droid, same deal as the vulture droids. They were also used to transport B2 droids as seen in various episodes of the Clone Wars.

I hadn’t ever really considered video games as another product type that could be inflation-proof, but I could see that. I know consoles are often sold at a loss with the expectation of making it up on software sales (shockingly, the GameCube was the most successful console of its generation, precisely because Nintendo made sure they were profitable to manufacture right out of the gate), and game prices don’t necessarily reflect cost to produce. Unlike the film industry, there aren’t usually any big name stars who can command hefty paychecks, and DLC/loot boxes are cheap ways to maximize net profit without having to make whole new games.

2014 Vulture Droid actually DID have a cockpit for a droid pilot. That was a weird set, very much unlike the peak set that has been picked today. Though $70 in 2014 for this is rough.

Video games are interesting because they get more advanced as the years go by-- $50 for a game in 1995 is more money for less game* than a modern $50 game. Whereas any bookstore has books on the same shelf written over a period of decades (or longer) for roughly the same price.

*size-wise, at least

LEGO is interesting because you can re-create this or any other set if you have or can get close-enough pieces. How important is color? Maybe you want it in Blacktron or Ice Planet colors. That part was discontinued? Build a replacement, or figure something else out.

So if they sold this set with today's pieces-- how much should it cost? How close can they get?
