This was a fun set. The Luggabeast was super cool, and I love the unique molds for the Unkar and Teedo minifigs.

Oh no, BB-8's being stolen by the slowest beast imaginable. I know that the folks of Force Awakens were so gungho about making sure they use practical effects because, "We're making a 'real movie,'" but they needed some prequel CGI magic to make the luggabeast (yes, that's what it's called) something you wouldn't mind riding through the desert because you can literally walk faster than it. I doubt it even has the capability of running, let alone on shifty sand.

Why does everyone want to go back to Jakku!?

If you've played Lego Star Wars, you know that this set includes a lightsaber.

It beats how often we keep going back to Tatooine.

More location sets please! As cool as starships are these are so much fun to play with.

I've played LSW, LSW2, and The Complete Saga, and this never appears in any of them.

It just occurred to me that two TFA sets have been RSotD, and both had Rey and depicted scenes on Jakku.

Tatooine yes, but at least it has more going on with it being one of the main dominions for Hutt space. You can always find Jabba at Jabba's palace

Yo ain't no way they got my bro Unkar Plutt in this set.

As if banthas and dewbacks are speed demons, lol. I’m pretty sure it’s better to ride a slow beast of burden in the desert that’s adapted to the heat rather than walking yourself into sand-ridden dehydration. Sheesh.

Ah, those were the days. Back when new Star Wars movies coming was super cool, back when the 1x2 wedge plates (https://brickset.com/parts/design-24307) were new, back when... oh, no, this set was still overpriced, it should've been $50 max; moving on... back when LEGO Star Wars produced more than just busts and display pieces. Back before the dark days. Back before... The Last Jedi.

Oh, and Simon Pegg's only minifigure appearance, I think. Ironic, perhaps, given he's had so many other, more memorable roles.

That’s one of the things I find most annoying about it. Honestly, I think the saga would have been better off if Leia told Tarkin the rebel base was on Tatooine rather than Dantooine, and if Tarkin decided to blow it up anyway even when it turned out she had lied.

Wow times passed so fast. I still remember greatly enjoying Force Awakens and brought almost all of the sets. Then Last Jedi came out and turned me off from the sequel trilogy.

“its retail price was US$59.99 / £54.99, which equates to about US$80 / £74 in today's money”

Or 60 portions by Unkar’s reckoning

Well it apparently was a shelfwarmer back in the day. LEGO themselves sold it off for 39.99 Euro in the end (which is when I bought it). I haven't even built mine yet, I think I only bought it to reach some GWP threshold and thought I might use the rarer parts in it for a MOC someday.

Well, at least the back legs were reused in 76099, but overall those four leg moulds didn't really pay off. Perhaps the legs better should have been brick built.

Too bad this set doesn't come with 60 portions :P

By in Netherlands,

I like that it is a location set, but I felt that this set seemed a bit random in its design. Sure, the location is ramshackle too, but a clearer marketplace would have been cool. Also, the luggabeast was nice but makes the rest of the set look a bit small. And is it was very overpriced back then that didn't help much.

Nonetheless, this set helped a lot in providing a bit more of the actual world of the film beyond the vehicle-heavy first wave. The Episode 8 sets had some vehicle locations too, but for Episode 9 they didn't really do any that I recall outside of minor scenery in 75250 Pasaana Speeder Chase.

Unusual set, seems like an expansion add-on for a larger set? Unsure about the box art of Ray being shot in the back, but maybe kids didn't notice.

Yeah, I liked it enough that I got over my dislike of the old EU being rendered non-canon and bought a copy. But the next two... no such affection.

The Bantha and Dewback still have some movement though. You can see that walking may be a little faster, but you'd be over tired. The Luggabeast though, it's just thump... thump... thump... thump... It's terrible.

Well, Unkar seems to have missed her with the first shot. And Star Wars villains aren’t exactly known for their marksmanship.

Gravatar

I got this set really cheap and I like it a lot. Mainly because of the Luggabeast. It's cool and it fits neatly in my display place.

I have the legs from 76099, thinking about building something similar to Luggabeast.

Especially when they're shooting at named characters.

By in France,

Kind of an ugly hodgepodge mess, but that's enough about the sequels. I really like the dark azure colour on the luggabeast, it was a new colour at the time and it's still very unusual to have such a bright colour scheme in Star Wars. The legs for the beast were also all exclusive parts for a few years. I bought the beast and Teedo on their own and they really do feel nice and premium and blend in well with any era of Star Wars stuff, kind of a shame we can't get such high quality production on things we actually have needed for decades like a proper Bantha.

I'm sure he's been in a few of those celebrity-voiced animated movies, but now I'm trying to think of another role of his that'd be liable to get a minifigure. Scotty, I guess, if the Star Trek line runs long enough to get to those movies. I remember Shaun being a popular subject for custom minifigures.

Shaun of the Dead was the specific IP that forced the Ideas team to spell out when a theme just didn’t have a snowball’s chance of being approved. In particular, it was a model of the Winchester (a bar) that drew the response. I’m pretty sure other versions had already hit the 10k mark. Take the IP out of that setting, and it’s possible they might approve it, but the amount of blood involved makes even that doubtful.

Looking over his filmography, his current two best options are Star Trek and Ice Age.

Well, that would certainly cook Owen and Beru Lars a bit more...
I didn't think we went to Tatooine an unnecessary amount during the Complete Saga. They get stranded on Tatooine and collect Ani; Ani returns for not just the men, but the women and children too; Obi-Wan hides Luke in the one place Vader wouldn't look; and then we follow our hero on his journey leaving home. I guess episode 9 has a moment on Tatooine, but I kind of blocked that movie.
The shows are mostly sensical on why they are on Tatooine. Mando for a bounty, Boba Fett for Hutt rule, Mando returning because of a mechanic he had met from the previous visit offering a ship, and Obi-Wan to watch a boy through binoculars.

It probably felt more egregious since the content was pretty much back to back with Tatooine appearances though. They could have easily chosen more interesting planets for a lot of those instances, or in the case of Kenobi, don't bother making it. I can't speak to whether Andor or Bad Batch had appearances as well, but that would definitely add to the feeling.

Sure, why not? This is RSotD, we're free to shoehorn in all sorts of only tangentially-related topics. You are also free to not join in if you don't like it. Also that something telling you things is wrong; you should probably not listen to it so much. I don't often think or talk about TLJ. I don't have time to sit about endlessly daydreaming about "what could have been." It's a dead subject: it happened, move on. My focus is on how Lucasfilm needs to work on building up narrative momentum in mainline movies again instead of dithering about with lame spin-offs.

Which is a bit of a shame, as I'd be interested in Mission: Impossible sets. Benji's been part of the series since the third movie, so there's plenty of opportunities for a minifig. LEGO did an M:I 1 set for Dimensions, but I guess the ship has sailed for getting sets based on the later films.

@PhantomBricks said:

IIRC Tatooine did not make an appearance in the Bad Batch, but I believe a different sand planet did. Andor did not feature any sand planets at all. Niamos and Narkina V had some beaches, but that's it. This has led me to speculate that the reason Andor didn't feel like Star Wars to some people is because it didn't feature any sand planets.

I don't remember any appearances from the planet that water forgot (to borrow a line from the X-Wing books) in Bad Batch either.
