"To the Invisible Jet!"

* blows up *

"Dang it!"

Comes with 5 exciting minifigures: Batman, Fast Batman, Girl Batman with Sword, Farmer Batman, Eskimo Batman, and Monkey Batman.

By in Belgium,

I like that there is no print on Gorilla Grodd in the promo pic even though the set is named after him.

By in United States,

Blame Bananas! All the world's problems can be linked back to bananas, and if you don't believe me, ask Randy Feltface.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

I like the invisible jet coz it looks like it’s flying backwards. Haha.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't see no jet in this picture....

Too bad Denmark criminalized the production of non-Batmobile DC LEGO sets a few years ago. This one is a lot of fun

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really regret not getting this set, although that regret would lessen if Lego would do another Invisible Jet designed for minifigs.

Hey they forgot to paint Gorilla Grodd's face for the photo

There's always money in the banana stand!

Those are some nice flame pieces on the jet. I enjoy having alt fire colors for mocs

I love the inclusion of the banana tuk-tuk that can be snapped in half.

No, he's just using his mental powers to make you forget seeing his face, even while you're looking right at it.

This has GOT to be an intentional homage to Arrested Development right?? "George Michael" has the correct Bluth banana stand logo and everything!

Why didn't the tuk-tuk driver just tell Grodd "Yes, we have no bananas", and stop the fight before it started...:)

Got this set, because GRODD...plus the afore mentioned driver was a great add as STAKES...a bystander to rescue, and keep out of harms way...and I still WISH TLG would increase its 'DC' sets, and bring back 'the bystander'...:)

I know this was years before Will Arnett would come to voice Batman, but I was half-expecting Bruce Wayne to rock up on a Segway, yes.

Actually, this set is from 2015, the year after he first voiced Batman in The LEGO Movie!

And @brick_r at least that terrible, new Spider-Man set from Brand New Day includes an excellent bystander with a hotdog cart.

Some unique parts like the Gorilla body and Batman mech breastplate that should have appeared in more sets. The transparent plane tails only appeared in one other Friends set 41239.

By in Netherlands,

Having recently watch the Justice League animated series, I now understand this set a bit more.
That said, the set still feels very fragmented. Grodd himself takes up a lot of budget and the jet, mech and cart all don't feel substantial or focal, nor does the jet fit in the play pattern of fighting Grodd.
But I guess this is set is about splifting up and having some on damage control and some on the fight. And I guess Wonder Woman arrives last as she's the physically strongest? Hence the jet?

The three builds I like though. The cart can be broken in half and making an invisable anything is impressive. And the mech is a bit funky but it's a great thing to include eith a bigfig.

I kind of miss this type of set.

When this set came out ALL the talk was around the three wheel banana delivery truck and driver, and that was the focus of mad desire at the time.

By in United Kingdom,

This is a contender for my favourite Lego set name, but also fell in what was a fantastic wave of sets. Not seen anything like it before or since.

I'm still waiting for some dual-moulded legs to turn up in the right colour for CC—and it's a shame WW was given her promo-only trousered look rather than the more well-known (and common) New 52 one. Still great minifigures though.

Having minidolls rather than minifigs does not make it a Friends set. 41239 is a Super Hero Girls set.

By in United States,

For some reason, I'm now singing "30,000 pounds of bananas" by Harry Chapin. If you don't know the song, let me educate you (It's based on a real, true story!):

It was just after dark when the truck started down
The hill that leads into Scranton Pennsylvania.
Carrying thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Carrying thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
He was a young driver,
Just out on his second job.
And he was carrying the next day's pasty fruits
For everyone in that coal-scarred city
Where children play without despair
In backyard slag-piles and folks manage to eat each day
Just about thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Yes, just about thirty thousand pounds of bananas

He passed a sign that he should have seen,
Saying "shift to low gear, a fifty dollar fine my friend."
He was thinking perhaps about the warm-breathed woman
Who was waiting at the journey's end.
He started down the two mile drop,
The curving road that wound from the top of the hill.
He was pushing on through the shortening miles that ran down to the depot.
Just a few more miles to go,
Then he'd go home and have her ease his long, cramped day away.
And the smell of thirty thousand pounds of bananas
Yes the smell of thirty thousand pounds of bananas.

He was picking speed as the city spread its twinkling lights below him.
But he paid no heed as the shivering thoughts of the nights
Delights went through him.
His foot nudged the brakes to slow him down.
But the pedal floored easy without a sound.
He said "Christ!"
It was funny how he had named the only man who could save him now.
He was trapped inside a dead-end hellslide,
Riding on his fear-hunched back
Was every one of those yellow green
I'm telling you thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Yes, there were thirty thousand pounds of bananas.

He barely made the sweeping curve that led into the steepest grade.
And he missed the thankful passing bus at ninety miles an hour.
And he said "God, make it a dream!"
As he rode his last ride down.
And he said "God, make it a dream!"
As he rode his last ride down.
And he sideswiped nineteen neat parked cars,
Clipped off thirteen telephone poles,
Hit two houses, bruised eight trees,
And Blue-Crossed seven people.
It was then he lost his head,
Not to mention an arm or two before he stopped.
And he slid for four hundred yards
Along the hill that leads into Scranton, Pennsylvania.
All those thirty thousand pounds of bananas.

You know the man who told me about it on the bus,
As it went up the hill out of Scranton, Pennsylvania,
He shrugged his shoulders, he shook his head,
And he said (and this is exactly what he said)
"Boy that sure must've been something.
Just imagine thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Yes, there were thirty thousand pounds of mashed bananas.
Of bananas. Just bananas. Thirty thousand pounds.
Of Bananas. not no driver now. Just bananas!"

I use one pair for the flying DeLorean. Can’t remember where the other pair ended up.

@Binnekamp:
Grodd is primarily a Flash villain, but Flash doesn’t make for much of a set by himself. Wonder Woman was a hero they’d already introduced, so no extra expense to make the minifig. And if you’re adding her to boost the size of the model, the Invisible Jet makes perfect sense.

CC: Captain Cold. The Frozone minifigure was close but not the right shade of blue. And while you're right that that Wonder Woman is technically from the New 52, the version I was picturing was the initial New 52 design she had, which was much closer to the original.

I always figured they went with WW's preliminary design to avoid printing light nougat over earth blue. What I found odd was that they never made a New 52 Superman at all.

I never actually use Captain Cold on displays. Mr. Freeze goes on every layout during winter, but the only Flash villain I regularly use is Grodd. I made a modular kit with over 55’ of “motion blur” that I can use to have Flash running all over the layout. It’s such a lengthy ordeal to set up that I really only do it for our Henry Ford Museum layout these days. At the “front” end, I have Grodd carrying crates of bananas and leaving a trail of peels behind him, one of which Flash slips on sending him into a somersault that uses five Flash minifigs to depict. I considered switching Grodd out for Cold, but couldn’t figure out a way to show ice on a roadplate that I was happy with.

"And while you're right that that Wonder Woman is technically from the New 52, the version I was picturing was the initial New 52 design she had, which was much closer to the original."

I wasn’t actually reading comics by then, so all I know about the redesigns is what I’ve researched about the Bat-family, primarily so I could identify all the Robin variants they’ve released.

They’ve also never done a 1st Appearance Superman, while they definitely did for Batman, and I think they did for Wonder Woman (I know it’s a Golden Age costume, but I don’t know if it was how she looked in her first appearance).

While you can't tell based on the picture used here, one of the more disappointing things was that Gorilla Grodd has a printed tech headband and blood red eyes. Had that been a separate part that could be removed, akin to the LEGO Friends hair accessories, or even just omitted altogether, I think this set would have been more popular. This was nearly a decade before 2024's City Jungle Exploration subtheme would finally introduce a molded minifig gorilla. I think people would have been willing to buy this just for Grodd and relabel him King Kong.

Honestly, more than a little disappointed they didn't reuse this mold for the last year of Chima, the same year, either as a larger member of the gorilla tribe, or perhaps a one-off of an otherwise unseen Ice Tribe of Gigantopithecus.

Also disappointed we never got another Grodd figure. While I would prefer getting one that could just pass for a large angry gorilla, multiple versions have him armored up. This one gets the short end of the stick both ways: you cannot use as a normal-ish gorilla because of the headband and arguably the eyes, while at the same time, lacks any fancy armor or outfit.

I never had this set, but I used 70125 as Grodd.

The "tech headband" isn't something I've ever seen Grodd with in a comic, only on toys. The Lego Batman 2 look with the gold armour and cape I could only find in one Birds of Prey story, too, but I guess those designs are more distinctive than a plain gorilla.

Non-lethal rubber bullets, or maybe tranquilizers for Grodd.

What I recall is similar to Juggernaut. Without the mental gear, he’s still a significant threat, but with the hat on it allows him to defeat a lot of superheroes.

This Winter 2015 wave was probably the best wave of DC sets. We got so many great figures. On top of Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold, and the banana salesperson, we got a new Wonder Woman, a couple new Batman figures, Hal Jordan, Sinestro, Cyborg, Killer Frost, and Darksied. The builds themselves were pretty decent too. I miss DC sets that weren’t focused entirely on Batman.

I suspect you're right, although Lego has been known to not shy away from dodgy printing before. And totally agreed about Superman. Presumably it was a similar enough design that they just assumed nobody would notice, which maybe they didn't. Still would have been nice though.
