Double gratuity? Not in this economy.

Yeah, but the tips are half the normal size, so it all washes out in the end.

By in United States,

I have nearly all Lego trains, but this goes too far down the memory lane for me ;).

By in United Kingdom,

I don't have the 'Double Tipper' but do have 3 of the earlier 125 Tipping Wagons!

Though that does make me wonder what alternate uses you could dream up for those tipper pieces. Armour pieces on a mech?

The tipper end pieces were pretty specialised at the time!

By in Netherlands,

This set was never released in Europe, as tipping isn't considered necessary here.

And the train base was "one" big part, with pre-installed magnets and axles.

The tipper ends could still very well be used for other purposes, and considering the other pieces available at the time, served a clear purpose.

The big base on the other hand...I have two of those, but these must be some of the worst cases of POOP. And those couplers have a bad tendency to break...

By in United Kingdom,

When I've pieced 1970s wagons together, I've tended to build the chassis from parts rather than use the authentic 1970s 1-piece base, so I can use modern bidirectional couplers and low-friction wheels.

The tipper part did get used for a lot of things, even before the "redesign" without the bar/pin ends (and 4 studs instead of 2), even in early technic sets.

As for more modern examples : 80035 Monkie Kid's Galactic Explorer used like 13 of those , 5 in yellow, 8 in teal, for the wedge shapes, that's nothing like a train

76328 Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile seems to be one of the last sets that still use the part (in white), and that set is retiring soon.

I only have back to 1980, the trains with Minifigures, missing 7750 as I cannot afford that one, even if I could get the pieces and 'bricklink' it.. and the latest Passenger train (which, unless I buy one used off of eBay, Ill never get.. a good time to stop as any really)... Though I also have 162 that I got in a larger eBay lot of LEGO back in the day (along with most of the trains I have acquired over the years). Though I do like this tipper too.

Which passenger train? The 60337 ?

I'm missing a couple of the older sets like the 138 and 722-2 but I have the others but missing accessory sets like 705 .
