You're braver than I thought!

It's obviously a massive improvement over the former lack of diversity in licensed themes, when I never had enough female minifigure heads to go around and couldn't even try to make a Martha Jones or Storm, but I do always find it a little funny when original trilogy Star Wars sets make a deliberate effort to include "generic" women and people of colour who absolutely weren't there in in the movie.

Gotta love some good, Imperial accuracy. Couldn’t even get a new face print, copied from those dirty Rebels! In all seriousness though, I do love the hair piece/hat combo. It was a long time coming and looks great. It’s just… maybe it could’ve gone into something better? You know?

That doesn’t bother me so much as the fact that so many people wanted diversity and representation in a military that was based on, well…you know. The Rebellion? Sure, they accepted everyone, but pushing for diversity in the Empire makes me wonder if they actually watched the OT.

Artistically speaking I don’t love it for characters like this, because — and I realise this might not be immediately obvious both because of poor execution elsewhere and, well, the typical casting practices of the time — the Empire being nearly 100% white dudes played by British actors was a very deliberate choice meant to evoke a specific type of fascism, colonialism and bigotry. Diversity is great, and certainly adding more female and otherwise diverse bit characters to the rebels, criminals and assorted civilians can only enhance the original meaning beyond what they achieved originally, but adding Imperial diversity dilutes it. Which is a shame!

However, these are toys for kids and grown-up kids and the ship sailed in miscellaneous side media years before Lego ever made a single Star Wars set let alone Disney purchasing the franchise, so I’ve decided it isn’t worth getting het up about it. Not all artistic choices need be preserved forever.

ETA: A bit of interrogation of women’s complicity in fascism is probably overdue anyway.

I do agree (although the Empire being overwhelmingly made up of white men in the OT loses some impact when the Rebellion is only marginally less homogenous up until RotJ), but I'd definitely take this over there being no non-white women whatsoever, for example, as was the case for the first decade or so of Lego's "realistic" skin tones.

Oh, yes, hence “poor execution elsewhere” — it’s hard to notice the point if they fail to properly demonstrate that it even was a choice! An artistic choice poorly performed is hard to defend, possibly even pointless to defend, in perpetuity. I can’t say it’s on the level of something like Discworld’s Assassin’s Guild, which was making a similar argument but more clearly and competently and much, much better contrasted with the cast elsewhere.

More face options in Lego, especially more diverse face options, is just plain a good thing.

Not enough reason to buy the Death Star.

Have they ever said who actually designed Imperial uniforms? Given them a punny name like Hyu Gohb Oss?

By in Hungary,

I like this character, she looks like Ciena Ree from Lost Stars.

Cool fig. I'm glad the cap with hair wasn't locked to just one character for the U-Wing.

The SW equivalent of Hugo Boss maybe?

If the Rebels had a spy infiltrate the Death Star the plot would have been quite different!

By in Australia,

Remember folks, the reason C-3PO’s dual molded leg isn’t in the $1000 set is because the designers thought the minifigure budget was better spent on including characters like this one who weren’t in the movie.

By in United States,

How does this minifig only cost 20 dollars if it's from a 999.99 set. Are all the parts found in other sets?

Well, according to the current Bricklink listing, her hat/hair and torso are unique, but that’s it. She’s probably just too generic for there to be that much demand for her.

I think someone ate lego just wanted a Delores from HR minifigure.

Too bad this one doesn’t have the glasses-which are a thing in Star Wars, albeit rarely seen.
