Today's random set is 3550 Jump and Shoot, released during 2003. It's one of 55 Sports sets produced that year. It contains 17 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$4 / £1.99, which equates to about US$7 / £4 in today's money.

Why jump? Makes hitting the target at the shooting range significantly harder.

I’m pretty sure using a mechanical lifting device is against the rules in every league except Harlem Globetrotters.
I used to watch NBA around that time, but these sets never appealed to me. I didn't like the exaggerated face prints and the mechanics. Soccer sets were better.
