Today's random set is 6556 Scuba Squad, released during 1997. It's one of 47 Town sets produced that year. It contains 72 pieces and 2 minifigs, and its retail price was US$8.75, which equates to about US$18 in today's money.

It's owned by 4,034 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you should find it for sale at Brick Owl, BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $58.00, or eBay.

That's quite the dropoff. Not even really much of a shore, it's just a sheer cliff whose top just barely sits above the water.

By in Australia,

This was the first Divers set I bought, back in '97. We barely had Town anymore, at that point, it was all juniorised junk. I was so grateful for the Divers theme.

Squad seems like a generous word to use for just two guys, particularly when only one of them looks to be doing any scuba-ing.

By in United States,

I missed out on the 1997 Diver's theme when it was released, but I discovered it close enough to coming out of my dark age that I was able to snag some sets second-hand for a reasonable cost. Love that subtheme (sub theme?)!

By in Japan,

Yeah, the 90s kept it real with the minimalism and no-frills. I forever love the simplicity of the 90s Town sets.

By in Turkey,

Not too exciting, but still a classic.

Good way to get the raft piece in a small set. Rebuilt it a few years ago and it has that old town vibe

I agree. Divers, Res-Q, Extreme Team and Arctic delivered quality sets during an otherwise dark era of Lego Town.

And so narrow! You can see the end of it where these shows on the other side of the truck. Feels like maybe this is one of those tidal spits that’s only above the water at certain times, the driver might need to get out of there in a hurry!

By in Netherlands,

One of my favorite themes. I only have 4 sets from it (including this one) and always wished I had bought more but ah well.

Are they investigating how that giant pitta bread got there?

"Scuba Squad" is actually the name of their music act.

I loved these sets as a kid. Although I do have some regrets in my adult life since I painted the raft black

The Divers theme is one of my absolute favourites. I haven't picked this one up yet as I prioritised the bigger and rarer sets. Also, it's the only set in the theme that has no actual underwater scenery or animals. For the most part it's a land truck. So I'm not in a hurry to get it right now.

Certainly a useful set but it weirdly neither excels at any of the theme's strengths or is that good as an add-on to the larger sets. It just does its own thing for the most part. But I suppose the inflatable raft is the star here and this set could synergize with the other sets with one as they can be loaded on this vehicle.

I love the simplicity of it though. And the blue diver and the driver are great figs :D

That’s why he’s trying to capsize the raft off the trailer instead of using a boat launch ramp.

Does the SCUBA diver have a name?

If not, can we call him Steve?

I forgot I had this. It was between my two dark ages.

LEGO seems to love the term "Squad" going by how many sets with that term in the name they had over the years.

2451 being my favorite, just for the name. Unfortunately it doesn't come with a Frank Drebin minifig (or even Duplo fig).

I was actually listening to the Stones on my radio while reading these posts. Funny how the universe works, isn't it?

Huwbot is a Klimt fan, and doesn't want to move the painting's review off the front page.

By in New Zealand,

No new post? Is Huwbot depressed from yesterday's world cup semi result?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Must be an extra long mission the squad is on

By in Poland,

I think Huwbot is trying to teach us that everyone needs a day off, to take it slow, go on a beach, hop on a boat and scuba dive.
