LEGO IDEAS set #13 is announced
Posted by glenbricker,The results of the nine project review are complete. One project has made it to production and one gets a pass.
To keep the suspense I won't reveal it here, but you can check out this video or go to the official blog posting.
I will say though that this was my favorite concept of the review and I am extremely happy to see it get selected.

It was also my favourite for this review period, part of me was expecting none of them to pass this time in all honesty, will be interested when the final design and pricing is announced
Congratulations to JKBrickworks! The Helicarrier and Jurassic Park sets were awesome but didn't have a chance after TLG created their own. Sad to see Minas Tirith not approved. I also thought the Piano would have been great and could have been done well even at the $9.99 price range.
Yay! Not a licensed set. Though when do we get Dr. Who and tBBT from last time?
I do wish they'd put a little more into why each project doesn't pass - for stuff like the Helicarrier they could point out that their one was in development since X and show an original concept image to deal with all the "LEGO just steal stuff from IDEAs without credit" comments that are constantly flung around.
Lego Ideas is going down hill. That set is the least exciting set of all of them.
The piano really deserved it, too bad. It also would have been nice to have a sub-$19.99 ideas set.
The marble maze is great and is a good one to win, but I personally have no interest. Good choice this time around.
I think it's a good choice given the options. This may be fun to build, maybe less fun to play with (I'm not good at these things). But given it's Lego I can probably dumb the labyrinth down enough so even I manage :)
Mr. D. Riot:
YOU may not like it, but (at least) 10,000 other folks think it's swell
It's a very nice choice I think, personally not interested, but it makes a great playset! Also sad for the Minas Tirith, because it would have fit well into the original LotR line-up..
Oh, I was really hoping for Jurassic Park, Minas Tirith or The Natural History Museum. This is still a cool set though.
This set doesn't really jazz me, but I get why lego chose it. I'm waiting VERY impatiently to get more details on Wall-E though.
My Thoughts Before The Results:
-Labyrinth Marble Maze - Yes, Very good and interactive concept.
-F7A Hornet - Not sure.
-Avengers Helicarrier - No, similar product already exists and the model is too large more the global market.
-The Goonies - Not sure.
-Natural History Museum - No, too large and clashes with an existing theme.
-Minas Tirith - No, based on retried theme.
-Jurassic Park - No, great concept and size. The set clashes with an existing theme.
-Piano - Yes, Very good and interactive concept; maybe a little too small for production.
-Flying Dutchman - No, too large. I heard romours LEGO had one designed but the sales where not very good for the theme so they ditched the concept. It could possibly released in the future with a new 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' movie if the theme is successful enough.
We all mostly expected both 'Labyrinth Marble Maze' and 'Piano' to go through and be produced as sets. I stick to what I said about the 'Piano' "maybe a little too small for production." The 'Labyrinth Marble Maze' was a perfect concept and it's been a holding on very tightly for couple of years and finally it has become a reality. I cannot wait for it to be released!
I believe LEGO will unveil 'The Big Bang Theory', 'Doctor Who' and 'Wall E' at San Diego Comic Con and then they will be released September-November. I cannot wait for those set pictures either!
I am beyond disappointed that the Jurassic Park Gate isn't becoming a set. It gathered 10k votes VERY quickly. The demand is huge. They already have the license. It's build style is such that it doesn't overlap existing Jurassic World sets. I'm let down and have zero interest in a maze table.
The demand was so great that senteosan's dinosaur is right there in the next review as well. Even if that gets produced, I'm going to lament not getting the minifigs and JP Explorer.
I wouldn't have thought it possible to show this much clear demand to a company and still have them say, "Nah, we don't wanna make profit".
Seriously, they will produce tBBT, a cheap, laugh track dependent TV show, but not this!? Tim Courtney, you make me sad.
Those disappointed with the Piano not getting through should probably be aware that the creator possibly violated the IDEAs Ts&Cs by posting it elsewhere...part of the reason I'd like more explanation on these announcement videos about those that don't get through.
I'm not a huge fan of the Labyrinth Maze, however, JK Brickworks has some excellent models for which he provides instructions on his website. He's an excellent builder, very clever. So I'm very happy for him.
Rooting for the Corvette and Small Yellow! :)
Does anyone know how to contact Nosmigon? I'd really like to see the original .lfx for the F7A Hornet, but he seems to have taken it down and replaced it with a later version...
I think LEGO Idea is starting to suffer from its own success, now. When they have up to 13 sets to review and can only chose one, I find it rather sad for all the awesome stuff tat just get passed because of that limitation... Unless I misunderstood something.
There are so (too?) many that deserve it.
I am among those that are very happy with the decision. The Labyrinth Marble Maze was one of the only project I voted for. It was one of the first projects on Lego Idea to be very well presented. I also liked the fact that it was not a licensed product and offers quite some playability.
The obvious choice in my opinion, although I doubt I'll get it. There's not much in the next set that floats my boat, but you can't please everyone!
Wow, crazy news! I'm just as surprised as the rest of you that this beat out all those other great projects. I mean, how can a frustrating maze game compete in popularity with the likes of Goonies, Jurassic Park, Lord of the Rings, etc.? Clearly it's going to appeal to a much smaller set of people. Regardless, I'm super excited to see what LEGO does with it!
@Yellost, they ARE NOT limited to one set per review period, and each review period is NOT a competition. Each set that gets approved is reviewed entirely independently of all others. If you need proof, take a look at the first review period of 2014, where three projects out of six ultimately made it through; Birds, Big Bang Theory, and Doctor Who.
Each project is evaluated on its own merits or failings, not pitted against other projects to see who gets out. The review process is not a Thunderdome!
i realy thougth and hoped that it would be the jurassic parc set
And yet...still no news on the Big Bang Theory or Doctor Who Idea sets.....
@yellost: More than one project can pass from the same review.
This is not particularly surprising. Except the piano, which is too small, all of the others are simply too large. Even slimmed down and "LEGOfied", most of the other projects would have come in at $200 or more. The Flying Dutchman probably would have been $500+ and the Helicarrier $2000+. I honestly don't understand why people submit these types of projects.
As a big fan of The Goonies, I would have loved a set, but I knew the ship had no chance of passing. It's way too niche for such a large set.
@ JK Brickworks, Congratulations!
The reason that I opened an account at Cuusoo was to support the Labyrinth Marble Maze. It was pretty exciting to see its name on the card in the envelope! It will be a great show and play piece on the coffee table in our house.
Congratulations to the F7A Hornet for still being in the running for production.
I think it's a very deserving concept, congratulations to JKBrickworks!
But only 1, possibly 2, projects from all 9? I was hoping others would be greenlighted. Next period they better announce at least 3...
I have waited a long time for this review. So happy it is the Marble Maze.
YES! I remember when The Brick Show showcased this thing about 3 years ago and I liked it right away. So glad it made it.
What ever happened with WALL-E as well. There are several ideas sets for which enough time has gone by that we should at least know when it will be available.
I have no interest in the maze set. I didn't vote for it and have no plans on getting it. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see the official released version.
Well, I'm surprised. It's nice that something original and different won, and not another 80s/90s film license. Though I do wonder just how many people will actually buy this.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy! I love so many of his models and loved making marble mazes with my Lego as a kid. Hoping this is a huge success for Ideas.
I like this because it has actual function to it, it'll make a great conversation starter/eye catcher for my coffee table :)
Now I'm wondering when we'll actually see all these sets appear. If I'm not mistaken the current 'queue' is this: Big Bang Theory, Wall-E & Doctor Who and finally this newest addition. It's going to be a busy autumn (fall) and winter season :)
Expected.
Hoped for another one.
Great idea! But not my favorite.
Congratulations.
I have to say that this was my least favourite submission from this round. On the basis that Lego birds sets have not sold as predicted, it will be interesting to see if this one sells in any great number? I think I'll wait to pick one up when it eventually gets discounted.
I actually saw this first on CBC due to Jason being from Ottawa.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/lego-is-going-to-make-canadian-s-wildly-viral-labyrinth-game-1.3090897
Though the mazes are simple the fact that you can create your own to work with the box mechanism is what probably won Lego over. How many will come with the set?
Thanks glenbricker for not revealing the winning set in the posting . . . watching the video is part of the fun!
Also--anyone know a timetable for the Wall-e model?
Thank you for saving me money yet again Lego. Continue to disappoint and you will lose me as a customer all together. Discontinuing all of my favorite themes, picking the worst of the ideas projects, and remaking to many Star wars sets that I already have, results in me not buying any more sets.
I'm so glad he went on to great things after the Spiderman trilogy ended on a poorer reception.
Well...I Like the marble maze, but I'm very disappointed that Minas Tirith didn't make it. It was too large a model, I think, although it would have been great.
I voted for the Labyrinth a good while back in its early days. Absolutely deserves it. Refreshing from all the licensed ideas that get posted on. Presented perfectly.
I find it a bit crazy that TLG didn't think of this themselves back in the "Games" era.
Well Done, JKBrickworks!
I'll be sure to buy this one. (or two)
Pants - I really wanted a Minas Tirith. The whole way LEGO dealt with Middle Earth leaves me sad, so many fans, so many epic battles and we never even got a quarter of what it could have been :(
This set isn't even that good. It's just a table with a marble. I can actually do something creative with a boat. Or a spaceship. Remember when LEGO Games failed?
I agree with CommanderRaab...LOTR was handled poorly. I guess children didn't buy enough of it (which makes sense), but still disappointing since it was the only theme I cared about. Having a Minas Tirith would have been neat, but I think most people only wanted Gondor soldiers. They could have done something smaller (and I guess someone still can) just so they can try to get some Gondor soldiers out there, but then again, with no new molds allowed, I don't see how they could do them effectively.
As for the rest, I didn't think any of them had a real shot due to size. The labyrinth makes sense, but I wouldn't have picked it nor will I buy one.
Congrats to the "winners" though.
Yawn.
Sigh...Minas Tirith would have been incredible. I will not be buying the marble maze; not my cup of tea at all. No offense to the creator--obviously a lot of people liked it--but I have no desire to own it.
I am not a fan, but I am sure a lot of thought went into the design. LEGO track record with games is pretty bad. I see this on heavy clearance.
The Caterham Super Seven just made it to 10K....
Now, the Caterham Super Seven I would buy!
Congratulations to the winner, it looks amazing, but I will not buy it.
They were other super-sets in there that I would buy without even hesitation like the T-rex, minas tirith or flying dutch man.
But i guess with all the licences for jurassic park, lotr and pirate of the caraiben, they had no chance whatsoever :(
I want Tim's t-shirt!
I'm actually quite happy this set won. It looks like it would be fun to build, with needing to create the mechanisms underneath.
I was hoping for the Piano as well, but as somebody mentioned, perhaps it was too small to be a viable set. Perhaps it could be resubmitted with another instrument or two to make it more feasible?
I'm still undecided on the Hornet, but if the past is any indication, it has a decent shot of getting made. I wonder if some kind of licensing is the issue there.
All the other sets were just way too large. From the next review, I really only like the Corvette, but since it would be near a $100 price point, I have my doubts it'll make it through.
Regarding Wall-E, Big Bang Theory, and Doctor Who, I have a couple ideas on that. One, SDCC seems like a perfect reveal spot for them. Two, since Lego knows they're going to sell well, perhaps it's delaying putting them on sale to try and counter the demand with enough supply. I know I'm going to be quite unhappy if I can't get a Doctor Who set.
If anything, I think the message here is loud and clear. Avoid existing product lines / themes / IP and keep it "medium" sized. 400-600 pieces, around about a $50USD price point and be creative.
The product line shows a decent, near 50/50 balance between "original" and "IP", with the existing IP being unique to the Lego ecosystem. Theme extensions, expansions and enhancements make for awesome MOCs but they apparently will never qualify as an IDEAS set.
I still think the overall MOC community is better off for IDEAS...success in the MOC-world isn't and shouldn't be tied to success in getting sets into the IDEAS line, IMO.
The labyrinth was one of the first projects that I supported on IDEAS (Cuusoo). I am really excited that it will become an actual set; it looks to be a fun model. I still am a bit disappointed that Minas Tirith did not make it, but it would have been the largest set from IDEAS to date (and well over the $50 maximum we've seen).
I don't understand all the hate for the labyrinth. If you think something is boring in LEGO, you change it and make it fun for you. And you can do that with this set. Build a new face that interests you and put it on and play it. Make a multi-tiered plate for difficulty, or make a simpler one if it is to hard. I thought this was the most creative use of LEGOs this review period, and the ability to modify for extended use made it the clear choice.
I would have loved a Minas Tirith as well, but I also don't want a $120 watered down version that would be the same size and Helm's Deep and dwarfed by Orthanc. How much would a deserving model of Minas Tirith really cost, $500 $750? Doesn't seem feasible. What they really needed to do was throw a modular piece of it out each wave to spread out the cost, then release a UCS version to complete it.
They need to get someone with better screen presence to do these reveal videos. (Or he could at least learn some different hand gestures!)
His terrible mispronunciation of "Minas" makes me wonder how early it was kicked out of the review. And no, I doubt licensing issues are to blame as many are suggesting as Dimensions will feature at least three LotR characters in the first wave.
I'm glad this one won, as Ideas (IMO) just seems to be swamped with licensed sets that are more about being a collection of minifigures than anything else (TBBT, I'm looking at you here). It makes a change to see something a bit more inventive.
I will not be buying this Ideas set. Somebody else can have my copy. :)
My wallet gets a holiday. Yay! :)
I would have bought 2 or 3 Minas Tirith sets, to upscale it to a reasonable size.
I would have bought 1 or 2 Natural History Museums.
I might have bought 1 of the Piano.
Awesome! cant wait to get it :D !
Yes! Easily the most original of the projects. Shame about Piano though.
The rest of them never really did it for me...
YAY! The two best ones!
So excited for the marble Maze its been on my support list for so long now I had almost given up hope for it. and when it made review I refused to let myself think it might make it. there have been plenty of sets before it I love but none have made me as excited as the Marble Maze has (I didn't expect that) looking forward very much to the day I can get a copy (or 2) for myself! Congrats JK Brickworks!
BS just BS get something right for once TLG ....
So happy. Love this idea. May be one I'll pick up
Not really interested. The only thing interesting was the Goonies set, which was simply too big. I really wish people would 1. stop submitting designs for existing licenses, 2. stop submitting large designs that will cost over $100. The sweet spot is $35-$60.
I hope Golden Girls makes it. I like the TV show type ideas. Can't wait for Big Bang Theory.
Just read the CBC article linked above, and I'm proud that this guy is from Canada! That's just excellent.
Obviously the set is exceptionally well designed and after watching the video with multiple mazes, it's evidently playable and original. My only concern will be the market for this. I know a lot of people who have a good old fashioned marble maze currently occupying a spot in their attic. I hope that the customization factor as well as the "Lego factor" allows this product to reach all sorts of different markets, and rejuvenates the want for this type of game.
@ JK Brickworks, Congrats buddy , you've done what only a select few have! Ramble on!
Very disappointing. When reviewing the 9 options, it w as the one that I personally ruled out as a "no contest" among the other fantastic 8 ideas. How does a puzzle that came in Happy Meals even compare to the craftsmanship of Flying Dutchman??
Good to see an ideas set with obvious play value and ease of adaptation.
I thought it interesting that Lego decided not to show their version of the labyrinth and that the concept picture they focused on was probably the blandist, most vanilla version. Suspect they are busy deciding what existing product lines they can theme a selection of labyrinths on prior to the big reveal.
I also want that t-shirt.
Wow sad to read some of the comments in here....
I personally know JK and he makes some great models. This is a great accomplishment and I will be buying this set.
As for the negativity, I'm glad something without licensing made the cut. Have any of you ever played the Labyrinth game? It's frustratingly hard, but once you start you're determined to finish it. It's addicting. Good on TLG for choosing something different for a change.
Wow, this one seems pretty polarizing! For those who think it's boring, have you actually looked at the project page? It's designed to be customizable. He has an underwater theme, a mideival village... I'm already imagining Marble zone from the Sonic series, or a space port, or a multilevel game board. This project embraces Lego's virtues of creativity, playability, and imagination far more than another 80's movie model or whatever.
And don't get me wrong, I grew up in the 80's and love my BttF car and the GB car, but this is one of the most imaginative submissions I've seen yet and I'm glad something so different got the green light.
I think i'll pick up the maze. I really wanted the museum though. They really need to reveal what their upper piece limit is though. This is turning into a farce with the lack of feedback and they are starting to generate more disappointment than is probably healthy with all the rejections.
What happened to the big band theory set?
No Minas Tirith? I'm extremely disappointed...
I'm glad that none of this huge sets made it to production because most people couldn't afford it. I mean, come on, I would never pay that much money for a toy, even a collectible one. The maze is very creative, I'll consider buying it after official relase. I'm not really that much into Ideas, the only set I really want is Ecto-1.
From this review maze obviously had biggest chances (but i loved the piano very much).
In the next one, I'm really hoping for the Vette to be produced, but it will probably be rather expensive (not as much as Minas Tirith or Flying Dutchman).
Ahhhh!!!!!!! I feel like I got slapped in the face again by TLG. They were given a chance to fix one of their biggest mistakes in the LOTR theme (a theme that hasn't fully retired yet) and they blew it! LOTR is my favorite theme, I have every set, but still no Gondor!!!! Why TLG, why do you hate us so!!!??????
^ THIS. Lol
I sympathize with the people regretting the loss of Minas Tirith, but I understand why it wasn't chosen--and why my personal favorite, the Natural History Museum, didn't make the cut either. I'm a little surprised the Piano didn't get chosen--I wonder whether that was because it's too small, too fragile, or because of it having been showcased elsewhere? Inquiring minds want to know....
Having said all that, I think the maze is a great idea, with lots of potential for customization, and I will definitely buy it!
Now if I could just get the plans for the Museum, and perhaps for Minas Tirith, I'd be very happy!
Bah what a crap decision... I know the other sets are too large and/or already have been released or will be soon, but why is the StarCitizen Hornet not being produced. That decision should be easy, its neither too big nor too small, it has a huge wealthy fanbase, its a SPACESHIP!!! ^^ and it got the votes quickly, when there are although other spaceships from Starcitizen. Boys can play with it as well, whether they know the game or not... Bah should really be an easy decision on that one tbh -.- stupid marble who cares about that
I'm happy for the builder/designer and wish nothing bad against him/her ...
... but no, I saw this and was a little disappointed. It's just so ... dull. "But you can customise it because it's Lego!" Yeah, but if you turn your marble maze into a police station or a giant robot or a spaceship, it's not a marble maze anymore, is it? Which kind of proves the point. It doesn't really upset me or anything (it saves me money, actually, because I know I'm not the slightest interested in this), but no, with all the cool sets they could've chosen, and they picked the marble run? I don't know.
Glad the labyrinth came through. That was my first choice! They're all amazing in their own way. Both JP Gate and Frozen Castle are superior to what's out now.
To all those disappointed with about the piano: I imagine that it wouldn't be hard to build with spare pieces...
You also wouldn't have to ridiculously overspend on it either.
I don't mind the maze, but really, they rejected the Piano and Jurassic freaking Park for that? BOO. I'm not even going to go into the possibility of saving LOTR... and I bet they're going to produce that ho-hum green jet too. Well, I have an Exo Suit in the hand and I'm really looking forward to WALL-E, so I don't exactly feel deprived of Ideas.
When would this thing even come out at this point, October 2016? The stuff they announced six months ago supposedly isn't even going to come out until late fall.
I wasn't exactly rooting for the marble maze project myself... but it's really easy to see that it was one of the most viable projects there, not to mention one of the most imaginative. So many of the projects people are boo-hooing over are obviously too massive to fit into the LEGO Group's release schedule — they already release as many $120–200 sets as they think the market can bear, so they can't just throw a limited-release, high-dollar set on the market without disrupting those plans.
Not to mention that with projects like Minas Tirith or Flying Dutchman, chances are the LEGO Group already explored the possibility of releasing sets like that and determined that they weren't viable. The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean themes didn't fizzle out because the LEGO Group doesn't respect the properties or anything silly like that — they fizzled out because the market for sets based on those properties was not infinite and has diminished since those themes began.
I look forward to seeing what the marble maze project looks like as a finished product, and I'm glad there are so many reasonable voices here on Brickset. It makes all the irrational whining a lot less painful to read to know it's not a reflection of the community as a whole.
No surprises there.. The one that I suspected of making it, made it..
While this isn't exactly appealing, it was good, I guess. The Helicarrier was rejected for obvious reasons, but some of those other concepts looked good... I personally liked the aircraft (can't be bothered to check the name), and the Flying Dutchman; but especially the museum. I would have preferred to see the museum above all others, and I'm kind of saddened by that one being rejected. It had a lot of potential.
EDIT: The Hornet is still being considered, I'm glad about that. It looks very good.
Hrm, ok. Money saved for other sets I suppose.
JP gate was my first choice. Such a shame we won't see it. I imagine it would've sold like hotcakes with the new movie out.
Is there anything stopping the creators of failed projects putting together pieces in a kit with homemade instructions and selling them themselves?
TLG needs to give the people what they want or risk not appealing to either the casuals or the FOL's. The most popular sets to emerge from CUSOO/Ideas so far are ones we would never have got otherwise without the process; who would've thought we'd ever see the likes of BTTF, GB or DW in Lego form!
Likewise with juniorising both the Hobbit line and JW sets coming soon I can see the same thing happening. You either give the fans what they want who will pay for quality, or make them cheap and junior enough for the mums to justify buying their kids. As someone else pointed out there are still Birds sets in the shelves, but I had a real hard time getting GB.
Also if I don't get at least one decent, iconic set from Jurassic Park I'm quitting Lego!!!
Just my two cents but why would lego give someone money for their JP, LOTR, Star Wars set when they can just make it themselves if they think it will sell. I personally would like to see a ban on all current licensed themes.
p.s. I will not be buying this set. Got one as a child for x-mas once and it ranks in the top five of worst gifts ever.
Bah, I wanted the museum... We need more buildings. This would've fit well in any modular city.
Already? They still haven't released that Big Bang set from two reviews ago or the sets from the last review. They're gonna get behind!
But anyway, congrats.
The hornet will go the same way as TBBT. They'll wait a month or two, declare they'll make it, and you'll never hear about it again.
Congrats to the builder. Disappointed as it was my least favorite set (I have never liked Labyrinth Marble Maze made out of wood) but not unexpected given the size of some of the other sets. I really hope we do get a museum in the Modular line. I really liked this particular museum as it reminded me of the Fields Museum.
Yes! I was hoping for Labyrinth Marble Maze to make it! That one has always been one of my favorites. :D :D It's a little too bad about Piano--It was the first CUUSOO project I saw and I always thought that it had a good chance. But still! I look forward to getting a Labyrinth. :)
Interesting. Looking back at the accepted projects so far, it seems that the unstated rule is that the set needs to be under 1000 pieces to get through the review process. It could be coincidence, but something to keep in mind for future projects.
I am also sad about Minas Tirith, but the Labyrinth has some great potential. The difference between it and regular labyrinth puzzles is that it is customizable. That should greatly extend its interest time. Plus, unlike the birds set, you actually play with it vs. just stare at it, which has appeal.
I also wonder what other ideas people will come up with for that tilting table system.
@LordofLego It would be hilarious if the reason for the delay on the Big Bang Theory set is because they are timing it to be included in an episode of the show. :D
I am really surprised the marble maze made it. When it was put on LEGO Cuusoo, the LEGO games were failing, and it just looked like one of those, but even more expensive and less appeal to younger customers. Don't get me wrong, it's a great MOC, but compared with the Jurassic Park gate with minifigures from the original movie, I just don't see it selling that well.
As for the others that are not the Jurassic Park gate, I'm not terribly surprised. I was really hoping the natural history museum would finally break the trend of only smaller LEGO ideas projects being made, but I guess I shouldn't expect LEGO to try anything different at this point. A giant helicarrier is already out, a pirate ship is on the shelves right now (stopping Dutchman and Goonies). LEGO looks like it is ending it's ties with LotR. I don't know too much about the piano, but I think it could have made it.
Overall though, I'm disappointed. I really wish LEGO would actually give some insight as to why these projects were rejected. There is clearly demand for Jurassic Park stuff (why else would they have acquired the licence with it? Why else would it have hit 10,000 votes so quickly). I understand that the demand may wan since they waited so long to allow Jurassic Park on ideas, but being from an iconic movie I would think it would still sell. It certainly hasn't stopped Ghostbusters and Back to the Future. If anything, the set would have hit when Jurassic World stuff was no longer on the shelves and parents who were looking for something else related to the licence would be looking for something else. Perhaps this is just me being annoyed that LEGO did not make any sets based off of the original movies in this wave, which would not have made me hope that they would have made this project so much.
So sad for Mina's Tirith but alas it was to expensive.
Boo! That was my least favorite of the lot.
It was only a matter of time before the marble maze reached 10k. I love the creativity. Another great choice by Lego.
I'll be honest, the Piano was a cool build, but nothing more.
The marble maze is not going down well on facebook either, will be interesting to see how well it sells as 50% of people are not that keen on it.
Congratulations to JKBrickworks. Although I'm disappointed for Minas Tirith and Jurassic Park, both were far too big to be considered. Next review I really hope a Zelda set can finally get through, but I highly doubt it :(
And LEGO, where are the Doctor Who and WALL.E pictures. I NEED THEM :P
I'm beyond pumped! This is a day one purchase for me. I'm confused by the hate. I have every IDEAS set so far. Most people have to realize by now that large sets won't get through. Can you imagine if some of them did? Several CITY sets at 700 pieces are $120. If Minas Tirith was green lit it would probably cost $500 or $600 maybe more. Would anyone pay that? Easy to say you will now but it would never happen. People say they keep finding BIRDS on shelves covered in dust... You found more LOTR sets sitting in dust and getting marked down. The line never did well. I want JP sets too but I get why they get beat.
God, these sets get worse and worse each wave. It should be interesting to see how long they sit on the shelves. I think the high point of Ideas was the Exo-Suit.
Absolutely the Exosuit was indeed a high point. Lets hope that the marble maze is a low point and it ideas goes upwards again.
No, this marble maze is another high point. Just not for you apparently. I'm looking forward to getting mine. Not only is it very original, but also perfectly executed.
JKBrickworks, congrats! A great idea that stood out for me for quite some time. Finally it passed!
As for some of the commenters, please don't hate the marble maze because it just happened to pass while your favourite project did not. Please keep in mind that the ideas sets have to cater to a wider audience. Sets like Minas Tirith would only be bought by people that are both a massive LOTR fan, a lego fan and have a lot of money, because it would be easily pricier than the most expensive lego sets that have ever been produced.
Also, there are several reasons it did not pass. One of them is that there isn't a wide enough audience. The LOTR theme has ended and had a good run. Lego themes do that all the time, especially licensed themes. The only exception seems to be Star Wars. Keep in mind that for Star Wars, there has been a continuous source of inspiration and new models. There have been a lot of movies successively, padded with tv-shows. This maintains interest in the source material whilst continuously reeling a new audience in. None of this can be said for any of the projects.
The marble maze however does not need this, as it is a concept in and off itself, based on an existing game. The popularity of the original is not necassary for it to be succesful. After all, people can build it. It's lego. It's more interactive than any marble maze has ever been before.
However, it's not a competition between the projects. I'm just saying that the marble maze is feasable for production, whilst the other projects are not. Lego must have had many other reasons for their decision. That Lego isn't clear about it is a whole other matter I agree on wholeheartedly.
But please don't condemn the marble maze because another project has lost or because you are not interested. Many other people out there are, and it isn't fair to hate the marble maze for something it didn't do.
There is a grand piano in the 41101 Heartlake Grand Hotel.
While I am disappointed that other sets didn't make it, I am a fan of the marble maze and am excited to be able to add it to my collection.
Just back from work these days.... first, the ones with existed licenses are excluded, and one common problem for these projects is that they are just too huge, so I don't expect them to pass.
The only one that I think it could pass and interest common consumers is the Piano project. It has no licensing issue and is also close to the Ideas projects catalogue. If I have to find a reason, well, piano sets do appear in some of the official LEGO lines so TLG might worry that it conflicts with Friends or Creator.
But in general, its still a shame that the review doesn't give two at once. I still congratulate the Maze being the very first project that doesn't based on characters, vehicles or animals, but playability.
Congratulations to JKBrickworks. I hope they make it creative with multiple options. I hope all goes well being product 13.
@PeterFD. Here is the updated shortlist requested of all those ending soon projects with over 500 supporters and 60 days or less left before they expire. (Some could get an extension with some more support). Apologises if I have made any errors. : )

This is a shockingly awful decision by LEGO. I wasn't keen on most of the ideas except the Jurassic Park set, but anything would be better than the marble maze. Why not do the Jurassic Park set instead of considering the fighter plane.
Also why don't they do a deal with the actual Natural History Museum and do an exclusive set. Therefore 3 creators get their models produced?
Don't understand all the hate for the labyrinth, seems like it might be fun to build and play with. TBBT and Doctor Who now they are Boring and a waste of Lego but hey that's just my opinion.
I'm honestly pleased with the result. If you've ever watched the video on the Labyrinth Mable Maze, you should have immediately noticed the exceptional creativity of this model.
The Labyrinth maze seems pretty cool, but definitely not a must-buy for me. I was hoping for the Natural History Museum personally; pretty disappointed that I won't be getting to add that one to my collection. Oh well.
Anxiously awaiting the release of WALL•E though haha.
Fingers crossed for the Tyrannosaurus or Science Adventures next time.
@SavetheBrick, thanks again great work! Found quite a few I didn't know of.
I hope https://ideas.lego.com/projects/70624 The Battle of Kazad Dum. Makes it to the extension.
Lego employees, if you read this stuff - the shots of blurred out people were super weird. It wasn't until halfway through and I saw a woman walking past the camera that I realized these were intended to convey motion, speed, and energy...
With the laconic t-shirt/suit wearing guy splitting his time between narration and explanation...it was just terrible!
If you HAVE to keep those blurry stills, and don't want it to look like you're blurring faces because you don't have their permission to put them on the news, you need to open with a live intro - slide show the sets over a blurred background image, combine all the overdub narration into 1 segment, MOVE the stills slowly past the frame, and THEN switch back to the live shot for a reveal. And that would just suck less. :)
Oh well!
