Review: Mixels Series 7 Mixies
Posted by TheBrickPal,
Closer to the Mixopolis theme of Series 7 than the Medivals, we have the band of the Misical Muxels... uh, I mean, the Mixies. They have set out to rock the city with their tunes, with each based on a specific type of instrument.
Given that everyone seems to universally enjoy music, is that the case with this tribe? Well, I'm sure not everyone will agree, but you can check out my own thoughts after the break! Does this tribe deliver? Let's see...
41560 Jamzy
When Jamzy was first revealed at San Diego Comic-Con back last July, he received the most criticism of the three Series 7 sets revealed there. However, I think he manages to come out looking pretty good. A Frender Mixokaster guitar (find the reference!), he has more confidence than talent, but that doesn't stop him from singing his heart out!
Jamzy captures the general shape of a guitar for the most part, but with the quirky Mixel twist we've come to expect. His top jaw is on a hinge and can be opened. Do that, adjust his arms, add on the included microphone, and Jamzy really comes to life to perform in your display!
When it is not in use, the microphone can also be clipped to Jamzy's rear. While the clip is not storing anything, it does look kind of awkward down there. Maybe pretend it's a little tail?
My only real complaint of Jamzy is the stubbiness of his feet.
Jamzy is also the Mixel of his tribe to include the customary Nixel; this one appears to be starstruck! I think the face printing here is pretty hilarious, and that makes him my favorite Nixel design of the series. Though as I've said in previous reviews last year, I really dislike the three ears.
41561 Tapsy
Tapsy is my favorite Mixel not only of the Mixies tribe, but of Series 7 as a whole; and I'm sure many will agree with me. The concept of a walking drum set is absolutely awesome! Tapsy is usually quiet, but truly makes his presence known whenever it comes time for his solo.
Not only does Tapsy look amazing, but he includes some very useful parts too; four purple claw pieces for legs, four ball-joints, four purple slopes and four brown lightsaber blades for drumsticks.
Finally, best of all, he has an exclusive printed radar dish with his band's name on it! This piece, acting as a base drum, is a reference to Ringo Starr's from The Beatles.
With a wonderful basis and personality, Tapsy is a must-have, whether you're a drummer or just enjoy creative Mixels.
41562 Trumpsy
Interestingly, Trumpsy has a name derived from the word trumpet, but he has an instrument that looks like a trombone. From Mix Orleans, he cleverly carries a mixtape and loves to play his loud music.
Just like in Snax from Series 6, we have large dome pieces for cheeks, but in yellow instead of purple. Creative, given that to play his instrument, Trumpsy needs to store a lot of air. His large belly invokes this as well!
Trumpsy also uses a 1x1 half-closed eye tile that debuted in Classic last year. I'm delighted to see this print make its way to Mixels finally, which will also be used again later this year for Series 8 and 9 in 41563 Splasho and 41576 Spinza!
For other parts, we have some slopes, the new 1x2 piece with ball at the end also found in 41557 Camillot and 41559 Paladum, and four of the new 1x1 tooth/toe tiles.
I do like Trumpsy a lot, but he is my least favorite Mixel of the Mixies. He just seems to lack some pizazz.
Verdict
Overall, I love the Mixies. They all have great designs and are everything I could ask for in a musical tribe. What I also find quite cool is that they use the color scheme of the original prototype designs for the Electroids! This makes me less bothered about the overabundance of yellow, with this tribe being the fourth one yet to use it as the primary color in their color scheme!
I shall conclude my reviews soon with the law-enforcing MCPD, as well as a look at the entire series together.
Thanks to Huw for the photos.

Nice job on this review! The Mixies look to be the strongest of Series 7 to myself. ^_^
^ Agreed, one of the strongest Mixels tribes, period. They have a lot of personality and are all truly inventive.
Another great review! Cannot help bit think of the band The Pixies when I see the drum set Mixies.
Is there a chance that we will see another Mixel Building Challenge?
^ Only if Huw agrees!
I have been excited to get these since the first photos came out. Two of my nephews are in bands, and though they are teenagers now, they always want LEGO! Riley is a drummer, so Tapsy is perfect for him. Collin plays guitar, bass guitar and in school he plays the trumpet, so either Jamsy or Trumpsy would be great for him. I like to give Mixels as gifts to my nephews with a small zip top bag taped to the back with cash inside. That way they have a fun toy plus some money since teenagers always need some!
I'm surprised that Trumpetmouth is using an actual tape- I wonder how many of the kids who will buy it actually know what those are?
I like the Fender Stratokaster reference. Tapsy would be my favorite.
Jamzy is rather double bass, not guitar
I'm a drummer myself, so I do kind of have to have Tapsy... but I might get the whole tribe, they're really cool. :D
Er...that guitar does not look like a Stratocaster. He looks more like a Gibson Flying V. Then again, I suppose that follows this rule.

@parsom Nope, he's definitely a guitar.
@glamdring804 It's just what he's a parody of; his branding in-universe, anyway, rather than his appearance.

^ Well, I think that LEGO.com is wrong. His name is Jamzy and double bass is more more typical for jazz than rock style guitar
Nobody said the Mixies were based on jazz specifically?
Trumpsy seems to be based on Dizzy Gillespie based on the cheeks.
I definitely see why some people would say Jamzy is a double bass.
Love Tapsy and Trumpsy; still not sure about Jamzy, though the fact that he has that absurd Nixel companion tilts me towards adding him to my next LEGO.com purchase! Great review!
Am I the only person to be getting Yahoo! login messages whenever I click on one of the pictures in the article?
Nice review!I really love Jamzy and the hilarious position of his eye compared to this of his teeth.
