Review: 76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Posted by ,

Plenty of excellent sets were on display at the London Toy Fair but my absolute favourite was 76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle. We have come to expect a brilliant selection of minifigures from every Super Heroes set but the models included are often disappointing so it is a welcome surprise when a splendid offering like this one emerges as part of the range.

Such high expectations can result in disappointment but I am delighted to report that that is not the case here as 76057 is just as impressive as I had hoped. In fact, I would go so far as to say that this is my favourite Super Heroes set to date! Read on to find out why...

Minifigures

Seven minifigures are included and all but one are brand new! The least interesting is definitely Spider-Man, who is in desperate need of an update in my opinion. I like the printing on his torso and head but there is room for improvement and I would like to see some different costumes in future sets as this is the twelth set to include this basic Spider-Man minifigure since 2012!

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The dual-moulded legs which appeared in 76037 Rhino and Sandman Super Villain Team-Up last year would be a good start and some printing could be added to the arms, akin to the design in 76067 Tanker Truck Takedown. My hopes are high for an updated minifigure in the next wave.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Spider-Man is equipped with a new element which simulates web being cast and this is fitted to his hand using a trans-clear 1x1 plate with a bar on the other side. The ends of the webbing are the width of a standard bar so there are multiple attachment points for this accessory and the trans-clear 1x1 plate is equally versatile.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

I expect this piece will be very useful for other creations just as the similar 20482, introduced last year, has been and I am eager to acquire a few more. These pieces also appear with Spider-Woman as well as in the other new Spider-Man sets and there are spares in each one so it is relatively easy to collect several. A pair of white strings are also included to represent threads of web.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Ultimate Spider-Woman is the second of the eponymous web warriors included and is also an impressive figure, although the simplicity of the printing is a little disappointing as she looks rather bland as a result. Perhaps some additional wrinkles in the fabric would have made it more impressive.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Spider-Woman's costume is not particularly striking in the comics and the same is true of this minifigure as the torso and head are rather sparsely decorated in comparison with other modern figures. However, it matches the source material closely and I like the hair piece which has been used so cannot think of much which might improve the design.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Ben Reilly is a clone of Spider-Man in the comics and he fights crime alongside Peter Parker under the alias of the Scarlet Spider. This minifigure shares the same head as Spider-Woman but wears a blue hooded top, complete with a separate hood element and a spider insignia which is printed on his chest.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

He also has some printing on his arms to replicate the wristbands worn in the comics and a silver belt appears on the front and back of his torso too. It bothers me slightly that the hood is not entirely secure and tends to wobble a little but otherwise I think this is an excellent minifigure and makes a nice addition to the Spider-family.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Aunt May has not appeared in a set since 2004 but finally makes a welcome return here. The torso has appeared several times before but suits the character quite well, with a lavender scarf printed on the front and back.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

May's head is new and features a kind expression as well as one of terror, which is understandable given the number of villains included in the set! I like her hair piece as well. This is cast in light bluish grey for the first time and is ideal for an older character such as Aunt May. It is a shame that she does not come with an accessory such as a handbag but I am still quite pleased with the figure.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Green Goblin is Spider-Man's arch nemesis and it is therefore quite surprising that it has taken four years to squeeze him into a standard Marvel Super Heroes set. It was certainly worth the wait though as this is a superb minifigure, with printed scales on the arms as well as a brilliantly detailed torso, dual-moulded legs and frightening expressions on his double-sided head.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

I was initially unsure about the lavender shade which has been chosen for his hat and vest as I like the brighter purple used on the figure in 10687 Spider-Man Hideout. However, I have now become accustomed to this slightly duller colour and I think it looks great. The skin tone is also very accurate to the comics and I appreciate the inclusion of his satchel which is fitted across the villain's chest.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

I really like both this minifigure and that which appeared in 10687 Spider-Man Hideout and am finding it quite difficult to choose a favourite. The newer version is clearly more accurate to the source material but the stylised version is excellent as well. Ultimately I think the printed arms give the new one an edge but both look splendid.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The Scorpion minifigure is unusual as it features a brand new tail which is attached to the back of the figure using a trans-clear neck bracket. The tail is nicely textured and looks lovely with the pearl silver tip, although it would perhaps have been nice to have some articulation to increase the play value and its versatility for display.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Nevertheless, this is a splendid figure. The detailed torso and head are both very faithful to the comics and I appreciate the back printing too, despite the fact that it is almost entirely concealed by the enormous tail.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

My only minor complaint would be that the legs are not printed with the same ribbed design as the torso and head so the blank green colour scheme looks a little out of place to me. The brilliant tail piece more than makes up for this though and I am very impressed with the minifigure on the whole.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The seventh and final minifigure is Kraven the Hunter. I was very excited for this minifigure and am delighted with the result as the hair piece is appropriate, the printing looks great and the new fur lining component is excellent! I am particularly keen on the animal print on his dark orange legs as this is a perfect recreation of his traditional comic book design.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Unfortunately, you might notice that the face is slightly blurry in the image below. That is not a result of the photo but the printing on the actual figure is not very well defined and therefore looks a bit fuzzy. The same head was used in 75918 T. Rex Tracker last year and this issue was also prevalent then so I am disappointed that this has not been corrected.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Regardless, Kraven the Hunter has been represented very nicely overall and I am glad to be able to add him to my Marvel minifigure collection.

The Completed Model

While the minifigure selection is marvellous, the bridge is even better in my opinion! However, this set also includes some small models which furnish the main structure and I will discuss those before moving on to the main event. A green rubbish bin and a couple of flames are included to simulate destruction along with a police quad bike which can be torn in half quite easily as the front and back are only connected by a single click hinge, just like the ATV in 5003084 The Hulk from 2015. It is a shame that there is no police officer included but it serves its purpose as an item to be destroyed by the villains and a minifigure could ride it.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Green Goblin is rarely seen without his glider so it is naturally included in this set alongside the minifigure. This is easily the best version of the Goblin glider to date, with sleek angled wings, adjustable flaps and a pair of stud shooters which have been incorporated seamlessly into the model. They are easily removed if you would prefer to leave the stud shooters off but I actually think they look rather good in this instance.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

A flaming thruster is fitted to the back of the glider and a 2x2 curved slope forms a nice shape behind the rider. Green Goblin can stand on top and slots into place neatly so you can hunch him over a little to create a realistic pose. It is also worth noting that Green Goblin comes with a lovely pumpkin bomb. This features the same flame piece as Ghost Rider in 76058 Spider-Man Ghost Rider Team-Up but this time the flames are permanently attached to a pumpkin with a carved face which looks great.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

A New York City taxi is also included. This vehicle is four studs wide so is scaled very nicely beside the majority of City vehicles, although I am disappointed that there is only room for one minifigure inside and nobody is included to drive it. The front features a small radiator grille and is decorated with a sticker on the bonnet, as are the sides and the sign on the roof.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The wheels look slightly out of proportion in relation to the chassis but I like the smooth rims and pearl silver contrasts with the yellow colour scheme very effectively. I am also pleased with the black stripe running between the wheels on either side as this breaks up the flanks of the car while also matching the sign on top. However, my favourite section is the rear. A couple of brackets are used to invert some small plates and tiles which form a brilliant little number plate as well as tail lights and a bumper. I will be incorporating a similar technique into my own models in future as I think it looks superb.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Despite the lack of a second seat inside, I do appreciate the sticker used on the dashboard to represent a radio and taximeter. There is also a steering wheel and a bit of space for a suitcase or similarly sized accessory at the back. Furthermore, I should mention the figure on the taximeter which reads $13.10. It is unlikely that this number was chosen at random as this set is absolutely packed with references to the Marvel universe as well as the LEGO design team who worked on it. Perhaps the number refers to Earth-1310 or to the birthday of somebody involved in the creation of the set, but be assured that there are many more Easter Eggs to come which I will attempt to unpack in this review!

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The first of these is found at the very end of the bridge but before I get to that I must acknowledge the sheer scale of this model. The entire structure measures over 44cm in length and is 33cm high to the top of the flagpole so is impressive in its size alone. However, the level of detail is even more startling in my view as the brickwork is marvellously textured and looks spectacular, with a liberal spread of bricks with studs on the side to which you can attach wall-crawling characters.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The end of the bridge simulates being broken and it looks great, with some exposed beams and pipes as well as a rough tarmac edge. Angled tiles are used to simulate damage alongside a catapult which can be used to launch the rubbish bin or a minifigure. This is disguised as a piece of smashed tarmac and it works to some extent, although this is the weakest play feature in the set in my opinion and removing it might improve the appearance of the model.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

A pair of sign posts support a sign from either side of the road and these can be knocked down easily as they are attached using click hinges at the base. The sign at the top splits in half when this is done for some destructive action but they also fit together quite securely when standing up and show the way to the airport, downtown area and Peter Parker's traditional place of work, the Daily Bugle offices.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

A highway number is also added as a sticker and this might be favourite reference of the many in this set. Route 25 runs from the eastern tip of Long Island all the way into Manhattan, via the Queensboro Bridge, eventually terminating in Hell's Kitchen, the home of Daredevil! This detail appears sufficiently subtle that it might be a coincidence but I have spoken with the set designer, Justin Ramsden, who advised me that this was an intentional detail. If that does not demonstrate that genuine Marvel fans are working on the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes range, I don't know what will.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The roadway crossing the bridge consists of tiles of various shapes and size. These are arranged fairly haphazardly and in some ways it looks quite messy as a result, although this suits the rustic appearance of the bridge. I am not keen on the stickers which are placed on the road to show cracking but you could choose to leave these off if you wish and I would probably recommend doing so.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

A short distance onto the bridge is a trapdoor which can be opened by pulling a tab on the side of the bridge, dropping anyone standing on top into the support pillar below. This pillar is enclosed by webs so can act as a prison which is a fun feature and one which does not interfere with the appearance of the bridge.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Moreover, this room provides a spot for Peter Parker to place his camera so he can capture shots of the action and any captured villains for the Daily Bugle. A minifigure will fall perfectly into place and you can then reseal the trapdoor by pushing on the pin at the side, trapping a villain until the police arrive.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The two pillars raise the bridge 11cm off the ground which is adequate but could be improved with some of your own pieces. Each one is surrounded by rocks and algae which I love and they look very detailed despite consisting primarily of large wall panels which serve to strengthen the model as well as keeping the piece count down.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

A sticker is placed on each side of the two support columns and these are laden with references. This side features some Spider-Man graffiti as well as the initials 'P.P. + G.S' in a heart, referring to the romance between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

A poster featuring Scorpion is hanging on the other side along with some more graffiti and brickwork detailing. The graffiti 'which one is which?' refers to the Clone Saga, a comic series which ran during the 1990s and followed the creation of Ben Reilly, a clone of Peter Parker who believed himself to be the real Spider-Man.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The next pillar features a wanted poster for Green Goblin which is detailed with a minifigure scale height chart showing a height of just over 4cm. This is a charming little detail and I am pleased to see some representation of J. Jonah Jamison's hatred for Spider-Man as the Daily Bugle is emblazoned with a headline of 'Spider-Menace Threatens City.' I cannot say for certain but it would be fair to assume that the series of letters included as graffiti on each panel are the initials of people involved with the design of this set.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The final panel also refers to the Clone Saga as well as showing Kraven the Hunter on the cover of a Daily Bugle newspaper, ironically placed right beside his hideout! The rear of Kraven's lair is covered by a lattice wall which can be torn out quite easily as it is only attached by a couple of studs and there is a box full of diamonds to be found inside.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

You can also access Kraven's lair from the other side using a ladder and inside you will find a computer console tracking Spider-Man through the city and a weapons rack for a spear and gun which are included. I would have welcomed a small boat for Kraven the Hunter to use as that would provide the minifigure with easier access to his lair as well as allowing the battle to extend to water level in addition to the ground and sky. Nevertheless, the current selection of vehicles is very impressive and a small boat would merely be a bonus.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Between the pillars there is yet another play feature. You can swing the side of the bridge out to simulate a vehicle smashing through the wall and potentially falling into the river. I think this is quite well hidden when not in use as only the small hinges and the curved end betray it, both of which could simply be more texturing to match the rest of the model.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Thankfully, there is a web attached underneath to catch the vehicle as it falls. This is completely hidden when the wall is closed up and a short chain ensures that it does not open too far so the model looks splendid whether it is open or closed. It bothers me very slightly that this section tends to droop a little and does not line up with the rest of the wall perfectly but this is a minor issue in an otherwise excellent set.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

I like the dark red accents which contrast with the grey colour scheme and this colour dominates the main suspension cables which link the end of the bridge with the top of the tower. You can move these around or split them apart to simulate further destruction and they also provide a good spot to attach some minifigures during the battle as there are studs on top of each segment.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The top of the tower is adorned with a flagpole which is flying the Green Goblin's insignia but this is more than just an aesthetic detail. In fact you can press down on the flag to release a web net onto the road from underneath the tower, capturing anyone underneath. This net is very well hidden in the underside of the tower arch and is quite easy to fold up and replace, unlike the nets which are launched in some other sets.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

You might notice a dark red tile which is decorated with a sticker on each side of the tower. This is the cornerstone and it is marked with 1962, the year in which Spider-Man made his first appearance in Marvel comics. 71016 Kwik-E-Mart definitely held the record for the most references skillfully packed into a single set but this one is starting to challenge for that title!

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

I really appreciate the textured brickwork just above the cornerstone and the balance struck between studded and smooth surfaces is perfect in my opinion. A nest can be found on top of the tower, complete with a couple of eggs. This may simply be a nice detail but given the association between Vulture and nests it seems likely that this is intended to go with the Vulture minifigure included in 76059 Spider-Man: Doc Ock's Tentacle Trap. That set combines brilliantly with this one to expand the battle and I will be showing how the sets look together in my review of 76059 which will be published in the next week or so.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The other side of the tower includes another hidden play feature as you can launch a minifigure off the top by pushing on a plunger beside the flagpole. It works well and is ideal for sending one of the web warriors swinging across the bridge while also not significantly interfering with the appearance of the model.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Bricks with studs on the side are spread all over the bridge but there is a particular density of these on each side of the tower, allowing you to attach minifigures in action poses. These also serve to break up the colour scheme of the model and can be used to attach the web pieces included.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

The final play feature is one of the best hidden ones. Technic tabs are placed on the back of the tower and these can be turned to activate exploding walls on both sides. The walls break in two halves much like the front of the control tower in 76051 Super Hero Airport Battle so it is clear that the same designer worked on both sets. In addition, the black Technic elements which activate the function are disguised as traffic lights for directing traffic across the bridge.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

As you can see in the above image, there is a Technic beam at the end which encourages you to combine two bridges to form an even more enormous model. Some further modification might be required to link the suspension cables and it may look better still with a span to go between the pillars but otherwise this set is absolutely prepared for the combining of two copies of 76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle.

Overall

This is an incredible set. I absolutely adore the minifigures but it is the model itself which has impressed me the most, a relative rarity in the Super Heroes range which I hope will continue following 76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle. The set is brimming with play features and details which reference events from the comics so should appeal to Marvel fans but I also think this could be incorporated into a City display quite easily with some minor modification.

76057 Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle

Furthermore, the price seems very reasonable at £89.99 or $99.99 and buying two to expand the bridge is therefore not out of the question, particularly since you could sell the minifigures from one set and make some of your money back. I will certainly be purchasing a second one at some point.

I cannot recommend this set highly enough. It is a masterful exhibition of what a playset should be and is ideal for play or display. This is comfortably the best Super Heroes set to date in my opinion and I am struggling to think of another location-based set which can match it. Marvel Super Heroes has improved enormously this year and I can hardly wait to see how it will advance next!

This set was provided for review by Norton & Co. but the review is an expression of my own opinions.

Great and thorough review. Thank you!

Excellent review. It's impressive how well they've hidden some of those features. I'm seeing nothing but gushing over this set everywhere I look, and it's making the extra two month wait even more difficult. I've already deeply considered ordering it from Amazon UK, but it would be about USD $130 shipped.

It's weird (sad?) to be 25 and slightly pouty over a LEGO. lol

A good review of a great set! I can't wait to pick this one up one of these days. Some great Marvel sets in this wave!

By in United States,

Nice review (as always). it is a great looking set, and with 7 figures I can kind of see the 99.99 USD tag on it, but it is just seemingly incomplete for a 99.99 USD set. I'm not sure how LEGO could have done better without going well over the 99.99 price point though.
Money wise I think it is OK (and it will likely appear on sale at some point). But having only one part of what looks to be a massive bridge would probably leave some wanting.

Green Goblin looks like he just escaped from a 1980s exercise videotape!

Truly stunning set.

I wasn't initially impressed with it so much, as I didn't like the aesthetics very well--but after seeing this review, the set up close, and the many play features and play possibilities included, the studded sides of seemingly random brick placement now totally makes sense and works exceedingly well. There's just tons of hidden references and features--Kraven's cave, falling nets, the hidden net that catches the taxi. Exceedingly impressive Superhero set; it wouldn't be a stretch to call it the best ever, perhaps by a long shot.

Fantastic review, fantastic set!

By in Netherlands,

I hope the Lego Star Wars team is taking notes cuz they drastically need to improve. This is a fantastic playset! I'm not familiar with most of the minifigs and they indeed seem to be inferior to the amazing bridge. A ton of play features that are well hidden and an incredible amount of detail in a pretty big set that definitely feels worthy of the price tag.

I just remembered the Ghostbusters Firehouse has a (zombie) taxidriver without a taxi! I think we can make a match 'made in heaven' here, people!

If I had disposable income, I'd be sorely tempted to get two of these to make a full-length bridge.

I've been excited for this set since I saw the teaser images. This is an awesome review, so thank you. My mind has been made up to definitely purchase this. I know my son will get some excellent play out of it!

WOW. This looks even better than 76051, one of my favorite sets of the year! Not to mention it's friggin' packed with play features and great new minifigs.

Why, LEGO, must you make so much awesomeness in one year? I still want to get the Volvo Excavator and Claas Tractor.... now it looks like just the tractor...

On the pillar with the Green Goblin poster, the word "THWIP" refers to the noise that Spiderman's web shooters make when they launch the web fluid.

@James"Bucky"Barnes I think the police vehichle is for Captain Stacy.

@aleydita no, I'm surprised so few people are put off by the aesthetics of this set. When I look at it, the mixture of dark and light bley and the inconsistent texturing really looks pretty ugly (and far more parts intensive than was necessary), couldn't a far bigger bridge could have been built from the same parts count?
Also to me it seems only one figure (Green Goblin) has had full effort put into it, which is actually a problem I associate with Super Hero Airport Battle as well.

Great review but I would have liked a bigger bridge.

By in France,

Marvel's Manhattan is more like DC's Gotham than Metropolis. A lot of it is gnarled and weathered, and having a clean and tidy bridge wouldn't fit the aesthetic of the comics.

I've waited so long for this review and now I can't read it because I got the set literally an hour ago! So excited. I have a good few hundred of Spider-Man comics from 1960's-1990's and this truly seems like my dream set.

Hope to buy a second bridge as well to make a larger Marvel diorama with Avengers too. I just adore the bridge's messy, unfinished look. A battle indeed!

By in United Kingdom,

Excellent set, excellent review, thank you Cap'n. I will be buying two but I can't help feel Lego missed an opportunity here to do something quite unique. When I first saw this set I immediately thought that we would be getting a Batman/Gotham equivalent. Two half bridges with conflicting styles that could be put together to make one complete bridge and Lego's first (but unofficial) Marvel/DC crossover. Maybe a similar DC set will be unveiled in the future?

By in United Kingdom,

Brilliant review for a brilliant set! I don't see the issue with the broken aesthetic, it wouldn't fit the idea of a battle to have a clean bridge. Love the play features included, especially the exploding walls.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I had a good look at the box in TRU today. I'm usually a strictly star wars-only man (with a few ideas sets, and some city explorers-based sets... oh and a bit of ninjago... you get the idea) but this could well be my first ever superheroes purchase! It would make a great display set as well as great fun for the kids to play with.

I agree @Starwarzfan777 - this set and the Cap Am airport battle set in particular have highlighted the raw deal we seem to be getting - content and price-wise - with star wars at the moment. Hopefully the RO and new Death Star will buck this trend.

By in Canada,

I don't think the aesthetics of this bridge is a stretch from some real life bridges I've seen. Some looking rather shoddy and in definite need of repair or replacement!

Great looking set with all those play features and references. I can't wait to see someone put two of these sets together and see how that looks. I had initially not included this on my wanted list however with those mini figures I may just purchase this yet at some point.

Thanks again CapnRex101 for the review!

Amazing review. This set looks great. If you have ever driven in NYC you would know that the roads here are terrible. Patchwork potholes and horror lol. So the "haphazard" placement of the plates and studs on the roadway lend some authenticity in my opinion

Such a great review and a great set! Does anyone know the official release of these at Lego.com? And are there any good deals coming soon that can make purchasing all three Spidey sets a little cheaper?

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set looks incredible. A perfect amount of mini-figures, great play/display value, and most importantly, a very reasonable price. This is what I wish the Star Wars sets could be more like. I'd argue that the Marvel sets released this year have been better than anything Star Wars has this year.

This looks like a great set. I don't build Super Heroes but this may be a first. Or maybe two. Building the whole bridge would be a lot of fun.

There's 1 more Easter egg I think you guys forgot... I think this is the Bridge of which Gwen Stacy dies!, How I know this is because of the Easter egg that says P.P.+G.S., See!.

I'm still not keen on the bridge itself, but those minifigs, dang. Three villains and three heroes, that's fantastic.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the cab. Good review. Also, I'd like to see how it looks with two bridges put together, giving it one complete span. BTW, does't spider-man have red boots? The Goblin guy has colored boots, why doesn't spidy get the same treatment?

By in Australia,

The bridge just looks really messy to me with all those different brick types used in the construction of the tower. I guess I'm just used to looking at Tower Bridge in my living room all the time.

Ah, I got an idea for an article! How about the top 10 duplicate(exact same print) minifigures in sets? The spiderman made me think of that.

The Juniors version of the Green Goblin I believe to actually be inspired the Spectacular Spiderman TV Show design, however I am a fan of the comic suit, not that power ranger suit or the Not-So-Ultimate Green Goblin.

I agree this set is a must buy and I will need at least 4 to create a full bridge. The new webs will be great for my middle earth MOC's. :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The look of the bridge is so you can place the web's in the bridge and pose spider man. It is not a damaged brigade until you do the play features.
This is an excellent set

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thanks for the great review.

I have to agree with some that at first impressions the bridge looked a bit of a mess, but after reading all the play features I can understand some of the reasoning more.

A nice selection of figs, though that spider-woman seems mainly an excuse to reuse the Scarlet spider face. She's not a character I immediately recognise, though appreciate the desire to have more female figs/heroes represented. A taxi driver or civilian would have been nice, and not ridiculous for a £90 set, Kraven's face isn't great, and Aunt May is a bit generic, but her inclusion makes me wonder if there are plans for Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy in a future set, as they would have seemed like a better fit here.

Will be watching this one for a discount.

Ps Who are Norton and Co?

By that logic we also already have an aunt may

Scarlet Spider's blue hoodie would make for a great custom Sans figure.

Absolutely phenomenal set which will be a must have for me, seeing as I've been a Spidey fan since the tender age of 6 (a scary 36 years ago!). But why is it not coming up in LEGO Shop Online yet? Is it not officially released?

No. We don't have any other in Marvel SH. My "logic" only follows what's in this theme, not in Spider-Man from 2004 and I didn't point out first Mary Jane either.

I'm loving the pictures, is there any kind of tutorial on how you achieve these?

I'm pretty peeved that the summer wave of sets has not yet been released here in the U.S.
Hoping to buy this when I get the chance

@kempy619 I'd suggest looking a tutorial up on YouTube or another video sharing site

Really enjoyed seeing this review--it's too bad we have to wait so long for the set here in the US but I'll put the time to good use saving up so I can buy two sets and make a full-sized bridge! No, it's not as elegant as Tower Bridge but it's a darn good representation of the big bridges in NYC, and the play features look like a lot of fun too!

I finally built the set and cannot agree more with this review. This is easily one of my favourite sets now and I can't be more amazed at how it maintains a perfect balance between playability and displayability. It's almost flawless. Justin is a Superhero perhaps? :)

Is it just me or is the head on kraven the hunter the same as on a Lex henchman from Batman vs Superman
Kryptonite interception?

Wow incredible! I'd love to see someone combine two or more sets to make a mega bridge!

Wow! A great review for a wonderful set. Thank You, Capn!
Normally I am not into superheroes sets. Most of them just don´t do it for me - mostly all about the figs and no nice or obscure/strange builds... So this will be only my third superheroes set, after Arkham Asylum Breakout and The Tumbler.
I managed to buy one on last sunday from the Galeria Kaufhof homepage and am now waiting for it to be delivered. And I managed to get a nice discount and will be only paying around 70€! :D

Awesome set! They should base more sets on the comics like this one. Thanks for the great review.

Am I alone in thinking this set really really needs a Gwen Stacey figure? I mean I know it is horrible and sick of me. But traditionally, in the comics, this is the scene where she dies.
