Review: Wonder Woman BrickHeadz

In February, LEGO brand stores in the US had an adult build event that proved quite popular. Another one is being held in the second half of July, this time a Wonder Woman BrickHeadz.

Is it worth the extra trip to the LEGO store? Okay, that's likely a rhetorical question for most of us (including me), so how does the Wonder Woman stack up?

I was able to register for the event being one of the first to spend $75 (also capitalizing on double points) at the LEGO brand store. When registering, I was able to sign up for one of three dates in the second half of the month. I opted for the first day, which was Monday July 17.

No time was set for the build event - I could stop by any time during the day to pick up the build. That was nice for flexibility, but it would have been nice to have it at a set time range so I could have met other AFOLs. As it was, I picked up my set earlier in the day during a break at work, so I didn't get to meet anyone else participating in the build.

The set comes in a small Pick a Brick cup and a set of instructions, which we published earlier today. This is my first BrickHeadz - I've never felt particularly drawn to the builds, and the only reason I signed up for the build this month was because it was Wonder Woman - my favourite super hero when I was a child.

The build is very straightforward and not surprisingly quite similar to all the other BrickHeadz, with distinguishing features for Wonder Woman. She wears the red, yellow and blue outfit we expect, and carries her golden lasso.

Her bracelets are depicted with 1x2 flat tiles in light grey.

She also wears a tiara with a red jewel in the centre to hold her hair back. For me, the most interesting part of the build was her hair. A good portion of the bricks on the set are taken up by her hair and the assortment of curved and slanted pieces do a very nice job of showing Diana's long hair with many waves and curls.

Overall thoughts

This was a quick, fun little build and it was well worth getting, especially registering during a double points weekend. For future adult builds, I would definitely recommend completing the build in store just in case there are parts missing. I picked the set up from the store during a work break and tried to assemble it at work, only to find that one kind of brick (1x2 red brick) was missing. Fortunately, it was a common brick and easily added from my extras.

Of course, one or two other sets may fallen into my hands while I was in the store to get this build, which I'm sure was part of LEGO's plan for this event. You'll see those reviews in the coming weeks.

If you like BrickHeadz or Wonder Woman, you may want to look into getting this - or building it from your collection, as there doesn't seem to be any rare parts required.

Thanks Megan, I'm not into Brickheadz but always enjoy reading your reviews! Btw is that golden lasso piece new?

By in Ireland,

You should mention this is the "DC SuperHero Girls" version of Wonder Woman hence the sleeves, hair shape and pants.

It's amazing how few of those pieces I have despite most of them being fairly simple parts. Well, off to Bricklink for me.

I do wish Lego would make a 3x4 tile with two studs for these things. The split tiles across the faces look weird.

I know that y'all are probably in a hurry to get these posts out, but can you do some color correction on the photographs? These pics all have a greenish tinge to them.

Here's an imperfect example of a color-adjusted image, that might more closely represent the real bricks:

Not sure if it's the same photographer, but the pics for the review of The Ultimate Batmobile were really magenta around the midtone (the greys look wrong).

I'm sure the blue background doesn't help with white balancing.

Something I've been noticing about some recent reviews here at Brickset

From the front her ears look like her shoulders and that her arms come from her head...those are ears right??!?!

^^ You are right, we could do better with our white balance.

We tend to use a blue background because minor WB issues are less noticeable than when using white but as you say, particularly if you have the camera set to auto WB, it doesn't help with the colour balance.

I'll make sure everyone is doing what they can to improve things.

I was going to mention the white balance too. I don't recall ever noticing it in past reviews, but it really jumped out at me in the photos here. Thanks Huw and company for constantly striving to improve!
