Review: 30609 Lloyd

Lloyd balances life as an ordinary, sixteen-year-old high school student, as well as the leader of a secret ninja fighting force, in The LEGO NINJAGO Movie. It is so secret of an identity that not even his mother, Koko, realizes! But when danger strikes, you can count on the Green Ninja to zip down his hoodie, reveal his suit and save the day.

That is what this polybag, 30609 Lloyd, represents - and it is currently available with qualifying purchases at shop.LEGO.com and Brand Stores.

Should you fight for the offer, or leave it behind in the heat of battle?

Minifigure

The first thing that stands out with this minifig is the exclusive head print, which looks rather annoyed. Perhaps Lloyd's father, Lord Garmadon, is trying to take over the city again - much to his chagrin!

The new hoodie piece, previously exclusive to Lloyd's Collectable Minifigure, reminds me a lot of Wyldstyle's in 70801 Melting Room, but more versatile due to being less clunky and lacking a collar of sorts. The blond hair is slightly faded due to the dark green behind the printing, which couldn't have necessarily been avoided unless it were dual-molded.

Lloyd's torso is perhaps the most interesting part of the set, being a combination of both his civilian hoodie and warrior shinobi shozoku. You can see the ninja gi peeking out as the zipper is down slightly, which is a great novelty that I wish we had for the other five ninja. However, the back is unprinted, unfortunately - though it makes sense, as the printed back on Lloyd in 70607 NINJAGO City Chase represented the hoodie flipped down and not on his head. Still, some creases would have been nice to see!

The torso and leg printing line up well enough, but there is still noticeable black from the pants in between. A simple brown belt completes the look.

Compared to the other Lloyd minifigures for the movie, this one is quite intriguing, as it is right in the middle of Lloyd's transformation from boy to hero. Deep. ;-)

Finally, the figure is equipped with the fantastic dao sword mold, tailed by a gold tassel, as is custom for ninja Lloyd. Sadly, it is never present in the film itself sans a newscast and flashback! Darn marketing and merchandise...

Verdict

This set is a real treat. It is probably my favorite polybag for TLNM released so far, and the love that went into it truly shows.

I highly recommend taking advantage of the deal, as there are many great sets available right now. Get yours through October 8th!

By in United States,

Yeah this one is a winner for sure. I'll need to see about getting one for my oldest boy. Not a complaint at all but I would have liked to have seen Kendo Lloyd in the last picture with the other Lloyd minifigures. Just for comparison's sake.

By in United Kingdom,

I already have hoodie Lloyd and I just bought ninja Lloyd from tesco 10 minutes ago. It would still be cool to have him halfway between

Is this minifig available on the UK Lego store as a promo because I can't see mention of it anywhere.

I recently received one. He's pretty cool looking. I seldom go just for the promotion but its a nice little perk!

Actually the Dao is present. But it's not Lloyd carrying it...

If you don't want spoilers in a movie REVIEW, not a preview, than don't read the article.

I don't see the need for this minifigure. It's like the Clark Kent becoming Superman one, neat looking but why would you ever use it?

But the hood piece is awesome. I wish it was in grey / black with blonde hair, I'd use it for the new Doctor Who.

@David1985: It could be great for Brickfilmers. Honestly there's a lot of stuff in the LEGO Movie and spin-off themes that seems almost tailor-made for people making their own Brickfilms, like the numerous facial expressions for each main character (Emmet got like ten different faces between his various set appearances).

Definately my favorite of the Minifig Collection. I just really like the look of the hoodie and the hair.

Hate to be that guy, but actually, the sword is present in the film at least once, and being used by Lah-loyd. It's when he jumps off his dragon, runs and slashes at a few shark-helmet-wearing guys, and jumps back on the dragon. The shot is in most previews.

That said, this minifigure is not that exciting. I've got the CMF Lloyd, and it seems much better, IMO.

By in United States,

I just picked it up today. I opened it and added it to my TLNM CMF collection so I have 21 minifigs in that display case instead of 20.

By in United States,

Mine should be here Monday! I've been eyeballing this minifig since the middle of last month.

Edit...what set does the hooded, white shirt Lloyd come in?

By in United States,

Lloyd has the dao in the beginning of the film, and Misako wields it in Garmadon's flashback.

Getting some classic Superman vibes from this.
