Random set of the day: Holiday Jet (EL AL Version)
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 4032 Holiday Jet (EL AL Version), released in 2003. It's one of 28 World City sets produced that year. It contains 151 pieces and 3 minifigs.
It's owned by 28 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

I loved the look of the classic four-wide planes, but I was late to the party for them. I bought the Shuttle Transcon and Trans Air Carrier sets used, and I wish more of the modern planes had similar levels of functional variety. I never knew where this set was sold though.
Interesting that this same set was offered as a promo by several different airlines, with different sticker sheets for each one (which aren't shown on the generic box front).
I bet there aren't many people who were able to buy both the El Al and Malaysian Airlines versions...
I love the completely incompatible styles on the minifig faces. Pilot with a classic smiley face, woman with classic lady face and 'Timmy' with weird big cartoon eyes and a nose.
I bought this set in 2004, on a trip to Israel. Though well into my dark ages, I saw this in the in-flight catalog and had to have a LEGO plane with a Jewish flag on the tail fin. It was the only thing I have ever bought on board a flight and it has held a place of honor on the shelf among some whimsically artistic Jewish ritual objects.

I have the Aeroflot (Russian airline) version from an auction at a LEGO fan event (can't remember which one it was). The sticker sheet is attached to the back of the box.
Shame they don't make gems like this anymore
Wasn't this the last of the original 4-wide airplane sets produced, before the new larger scale sets came out? I only have the LegoAir version.
Out of curiosity, why were there European and Asian airlines but no North American ones?
Also, is Snowflake the rarest version as it was the smallest airline and only existed for 18 months?
Though it is wonderful to have yet another four wide aircraft, and even with a conventional tail instead of a T-tail, this model has got a flaw. The normal wing-shaped plates have not been used, the wings are built of several plated and have been mounted sweeping backwards, the studs are not aligned to aircraft in a normal way. Hence the air inlets of the engines would point outwards. Therefore they have been mounted on 2x2 turn tables enabling the engines to swing from side to side. This can actually been seen on the photo where the engine is pointing out - despite the turn table.
Beside this flaw, the aircraft is a fine addition to any airport. And I like the idea that the aircraft was being sold with different airline companies with their own logos. I have got the "generic" LEGO Air version.
