The Pneumatics always looked like they would have been fun to play with. Maybe I ought to put them on my "Bricklink these pieces someday" list?

To me 8459 / 8439 / 8464 is still the second most playable technic front end loader (856 being first). Pneumatics are very adequate for operation of the shovel and the air tank adds a lot to that.
Functions are same as newer, bigger set 8265 and 42030 (except for working steering wheel in cabin).
This model has everything has everything that makes a five star technic model packed in only as much space as needed.

IMO best front end loader to date. Pneumatic + air tank makes operation superb. Working steering wheel in the cabin, differentials, V6 engine with moving pistons. LEGO Technic was better then.

This is the version I own. Some of the dark and light bluish grey pieces are unique.

This (the original 8459 from 1997) was my first Technic set. Oh, the memories.
