Life on Mars is one of my favorite themes from the early 2000's. I loved the designs of many of the mechs, and those martian minifigures were great!

I was so enamored by Life on Mars when glimpsed in the November 2000 Lego Mania Magazine that I snatched up most of the sets I wanted by Christmas 2000 (it was officially a 2001 theme). The Red Planet Protector and Recon Mech RP mechs were the highlights for sure. This one...not so much. I wasn't aware that the LoM theme had so much dross in their lineup, but I guess it was an easy way to get another Martian. I really liked their star-names (i.e. Altair, Cassiopeia, Arcturus, Rigel, etc.) as an astronomy buff. That gave them more character in my eyes. I wonder what this one was named?

This entire theme was dross in my opinion.

These were just small polybags I think, or the equivalent of them from back then.

"Worker Robot"

But... that's blatantly an alien there and not a robot?

@diana I've admittedly heard only good things about that one. It's an exception.

@Ayliffe: I guess a more complete description would be 'Marsian riding worker robot' ;)

I think this series comes with a few interesting sets (and some not so interesting). I own 7310 Mono Jet, which is a somewhat strange vehicle to move around with (in an interesting way), 7311 Red Planet Cruiser (mostly in green :) and 7312 T-3 Trike, which I think is fantastic

You're so angsty. I just took a look at your collection, the closest thing you have to having an idea of what sets were like before 2006 is 7110 Luke's Landspeeder (A set I love even though it's only function is swooshing.). It appears you liked Mars Mission, so I'm really wondering why Life on Mars is such a turnoff for you. Sorry our older sets aren't appealing to you too much. As much as I don't care for Minecraft, you don't see me crapping on it. Sure, it may be nostalgia talking, but looking at the Life on Mars images, they still feel like they would be appealing to a kid today. I'm confident that if they were coming out today with all our new tiles and slopes and ratchet joints, but kept a similar silhouette, everyone would be freaking out.

Count me among those who loved this series. Sure the articulation on the robots could be better with some of the pieces we have now but you work with what you have. And I loved he modular nature of the sets, how they could be clicked apart and reconfigured into new things. Mixing and matching from different sets was especially fun

Always love LEGO aliens, it's a real shame I never got any of these. Maybe I should change that...

Love this theme. Have every set. This one in particular works well as a scout craft for the larger 7316 because of the color coordination.
