More Adventurers, and we're back in Egypt today. This one must've been a special, limited release, because I don't remember it anywhere for sale in Australia back in '98. We only ever had 5918 for sale on shelves (which I bought straight-away because it was a gorgeous period piece then and it still is now).
You should add price or availability to the facts.
This one's cool. I don't remember though. Such an imaginative theme.
This set was an exclusive. It was sold in catalogs, together with 2996, as "The Lost Tomb" (K2995 or K2996 or something).
@LuvsLEGO ... I remember that I loved all the new pieces. The maps, the scorpions, the jewel pieces (which I thought were lovely), and then you had the villain minifigs and the mummy characters, 15-year-old me they were all fantastic.
Adventurers will go down as one of the best themes ever for me. I loved all of the different places they visited. The buildings and accessories were great. Bring it back!!!!
Even though it required a specialized piece, having vehicles with separate driver and passenger seats side by side was revolutionary. I’d love if more sets did this!
Brings back great memories. Where did all the Adventurers, Pirates, Castle, and Space themes go? They’ve faded away...
@phil13, you are correct because I remember getting the combination of this awesome car (with the awesome mummy skeleton, map, and jewel ), the mentioned 2996 Tomb, and the 5900 Johnny Thunder for Christmas. It was one of the best memories.
I own this! I guess I found out about this set on Lugnet and the idea of a vehicle being able to carry so much stuff and having two figures being able to sit side by side was a revolution for me, as I grew up with 4-stud-wide cars. This and the Mummy/ Indiana Jones vibe this series had, some time before Indy sets were made (which I also got and loved), made me totally want it. I had to import this from Canada, as it was unknown in Europe. I believe I paid about 40€ incl. postage and it was worth it at that time. Of course, a couple years later I got the amazing Indy set Race for the Stolen Treasure for even less money, but at that time it was worth it and I loved it!
@Matt Z: We had an Adventurers spiritual successor in 2011, Castle and Space in 2013, Pirates in 2015. LEGO definitely isn’t against revisiting past ideas, but not always as a huge and constant presence even if they once seemed like they always would be.
I suspect with Nexo Knights over we may be due for a new Castle theme in 2019 but no telling how long it’ll last this time even if we do get one. Not every classic theme category has got what it takes to be a year-in, year-out success like City or Friends.
In the meantime, for now we’ve still got Elves, which is pretty much a Castle theme in all but name.
