I loved this set when I was a kid!

I SO wanted this set as a kid, the proportions just seem perfect on it and I love you can land a helicopter on it!

Oooh, we're back to the good stuff. I love the size of the boat, and the fact you land a chopper on the back? Win.

Ah the nostalgia! Repeating MorkMan's words: I (too) loved this set when I was a kid! The little room down below with the new neat phone piece in it was one lovely thing in this vessel. I also remember turning this into a sort of a military ship by replacing all extinguisher devices with gun turrets...

I love the classic ships... I wish ships were still a mainstay (pun not intended). Is this the same hull that's used in the recent City sets?

By in United States,

I remember this in the catalog. A true classic from the 90s!

This is the set that brought me out of my dark ashes. Found it on clearance in Pasadena during my first year of graduate school - 1994 - and it was all
downhill from there. This boat was fantastic!

By in Greece,

I fondly remember seeing this set in the catalogues back then but it was way out of my pocket-money range. Still, it was (and remains) a brilliant set of the great era of TLG

Beautiful set with excellent bath playability.
That and the Police boat performed many rescue missions in my bath.
When I was a child that is...

By in Turkey,

I came across with this set in a second hand bin, along with 5 other sets from that era. Of course, the base was gone. I was lucky to have some 2x4 red bricks, so that i was able to build the body. Now I'm happy to say that I have this set...

What a beauty!

I also remember seeing this in the catalogues of the time, but we already had 4020 so our pleas and justifications of ‘but this one has a helicopter!!!’ did not work (understandably) on our parents....

By in France,

The catalogue picture of this in action was amazing- I really wished I had enough red gantry pieces to make some equivalent structure.

It's taken this long, but finally a "Random set of the day" that I have owned (and well worth the wait!). A fantastic set that is as good as it looks. Like @Ssorg mentioned, the control room below was great. The build is fun and of course the hull is functional (read: it floats).

Got it and love till but still prefer 4020.

@Balthazar Brannigan, according to Bricklink this lovely hull was only used in one other set; 1987's Cargo Carrier - 4030, and was molded in blue for that beauty (that will probably forever remain on my Wanted List). By 1991 I was already nose diving into my Dark Ages, what a shame for lost LEGO opportunity :(

I had the predecessor to this guy--these were a lot of fun in the bath tub as a kid.
