One of the "sets" I own. Minifig battle packs have been around a while...

^ I don't own this set, but I probably own the equivalent of it 20 times over ;)

Dang I wish I’d been able to pick up some of these when I was a kid.

And we thought Star Wars gave us the first minifig packs...

This is the one.

By in New Zealand,

We need more sets like this.

Probably the last set I got before entering my Dark Age. Actually I think I was already in it, but the Black spaceman lured me temporarily out of it.

@namekuji There are a ton of sets like this: City Starter Packs, Star Wars Battle Packs, Minecraft skin packs, Ninjago accessory packs, the list goes on.

As much as I like the spaceships-- and Space is my favorite of the what I consider the "classic three" LEGOLand themes (I'm old enough that my brain still sometimes considers green to be a new brick color, even though I know it's not)-- those little robots were probably my actual favorite part about Classic Space.

Oh, I love how cool the Blacktron sets look, and the modularity of them, and magnets are fun, and spaceship spaceship spaceship... But those little robots made of rocket parts and those antennas and those other little pieces are just really really cool.

Also, that jetpack on that yellow guy was a nice alternative to the airtanks everyone else had, you know? Even when Blacktron got those one-piece harness things, I liked the customizability of that jetpack.

And since I'm here, I'm gonna ramble about the cool tools the Classic spacemen had. Since there was no fiction, you had to use your imagination for some of those things. There's that metal-detector-looking thing, the radio with the studs that were never used, that bazooka-looking maybe it's a telescope?, those robot arms that maybe are wrenches?, and, not pictured, the two guns, one of which looked like a megaphone (and IIRC was used as a hairdryer in Town)... Also, the radio is one of those pieces that has been around for a long long time, and I've only ever seen in it black.

But, anyway, those robots!

How is the yellow spaceman breathing?

Absolutely an example of a set that would fly off the shelves of Lego Stores if re-produced. And I like the robots, totally Classic Space!

I loved these packs as I always needed more space minifigs for my base and ships and I seem to remember convincing my mother to buy me several. Throw in a couple of robots and it’s an all round classic pack.

@Eviltwin - he isn’t - the robots nicked his oxygen and he is just floating off into the void while the others pose for their photo op.
This reissued would be a great anniversary set.

I just wanted this Jetpack so badly...

By in Belgium,

I came so close to buying this many times at Woolworths back in the day but always walked away with 1-2 cheaper sets that I could build and play with instead. I know figures carry a premium even now but back then it must have been higher, I seem to recall this was very expensive compared to some of the smaller ships.

A couple of years ago, I found one of those MISB, on a second hand market. It made my day, week,... ! This really is a beautifull set!!!

I know inflation is a thing, but $5 for that versus today where $5 only gets you one collectible minifigure? I wasn't even around in the 80s and I want to be in them right now just to pick this set up.

Lego finds that there is no customer base for sets similar to those that cover a large portion of people looking for nostalgia?
Lego thinks it will not work well in sales for one or two sets per year for example, which will offer satisfaction to a demand that is often discussed?
Lego does not want the risk to offer us a minimum set every year, from the hundreds that comes out, when takes the risk for new themes that do not go well in sales, why is not testing a safe path of success?
Recently, in eurobricks a respected member said "It's been years since TLG has offered anything I really cared for, and with nothing on the horizon that fits my taste, I'm just going to say adios" "The simple fact is that my hobby is centered around buying, building and displaying Castle sets and figs, and there's nothing left for me anymore, they've even found a way to kill the CMF line for me with all this licensed and themed junk. "
I feel the same with him, not just for the castles but in general, if there was no bricklink I would never go back to the lego after my dark ages,I will not try to put my child in the world of lego and from debates I make with parents I am not the only one who thinks so
The answer to all of these may be that the company follows a specific agenda by trying to impose on the child souls mainly a new way of thinking that we see the last decades in our society
I would like to give an official reply from a representative of the company to state why they judge as a company that it does not deserve to offer one or two sets similar to the golden period '80-'90,from the hundreds sets coming out each year
Are personal views I would like you to respect them I do not ask to adopt them

I was into Classic Space from its inception and had really wanted a set like this. Unfortunately, I was already in my DA when this one came out. I remember seeing it and wishing LEGO had released it - or something similar - years earlier.

@Eviltwin, ...and he's naked! He's smiling though, so I don't think he's too worried about the lack of air or the nudity.

I'd love for Lego to get back to the basic themes that drew me in as a kid (space, castle, and later on, pirates), but it seems that we get more obscure sets and licensed themes that I could care less about. As I get older, I find I'm buying more from Bricklink to build what I want rather than wait for Lego to produce it.

@BrickDangerous ... I think everybody used that bazooka-looking piece backward. You add the 1 x 1 cone pieces, and boom (literally).

The megaphone piece that was talked about upthread? I used to turn those around and add trans-red cones to the end of those, and bam, my characters had rockets and bazookas and all kinds of cool stuff. And then you added the giant Spyrius robots to the mix, and it all got wildly out of control.

I definitely think we need a revival of Classic Space. We’re in an era where space travel and exploration is going to become a much bigger part of our day to day lives again, and I want our kids to be able to explore that with their imaginations. Having a non-violet, exploration-based Space theme (complete with modernized classic moon logo) would be popular. I’m certain of it.

And with the new building techniques!? C’mon. Incredible.

I loved the little "battle packs" they did for the early years of Space, and this one was the best for all the fun robots! They where great for populating your world beyond the starts, weather with Classic Space Astronaughts, M-Tron explorers, or Futron citizens. I wish more modern original themes did stuff like this and not just Star Wars.

I much prefer these battle accessory packs over the starter packs.

Even up until fairly recently these were still made, I can remember the pirates of the Caribbean one, one the last castle had them for each army not to mention the fantasy era castle had about 4!

To me the starter pack type minifigs booster packs just come with generally uninspiring builds and no real purpose.

Nowadays, if you wanted each of those spacemen, you'd probably have to buy 4 separate sets... and then 3 months down the road, they'd release a 5th set with a green spaceman : )

By in Australia,

How about classic space and classic castle CMF's. I reckon that would sell.
