Today's random set is 8090 Universal Set, released in 1982. It's one of 5 Technic sets produced that year. It contains 266 pieces.
It's owned by 245 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Yes! They should definitely bring these back for the studless technic. Like this post of you agree that Lego is about rebuilding from your imagination rather than just displaying a model.
LEGO is about building from your imagination AND displaying models.
Add-on packs like this should indeed be a thing again, and not just for Technic; imagine Classic-style parts-packs, or 'crafting boxes', specifically for Star Wars or Ninjago...
Yep, like the building bigger thinking sets, but themed - space, castle, pirates, western etc... A few ideas, but with extra parts too.
Hardly an add-on pack - there were enough parts to make a whole variety of things. There were instructions for some, then lots more ideas as photos on the back of the box to make you thing "How on earth did they make that?".
That name! It's so basic, hahaha!
I love parts packs like these, they make it so much easier to build your own creations and experiment with improving existing sets. We still see sets like this for System, but Technic is lacking them these days.
