By in Australia,

I was pretty underwhelmed by this, given that Lego has done really great steam locomotives in the past, and instead we got ... this. I bought two of them, which gave me an extra carriage, plus enough spare red pieces to build a tender for the engine (the lack of a tender, I just couldn't even fathom). And then I started rebuilding the engine.

I did eventually find that there was a really cool red steam engine hiding, in this set, it just took a *lot* of rebuilding and adjustments to get to it.

By in United States,

Does not look too bad for releasing in 2001. Though you can see the progress from this set to the modern version. The platform is a nice edition even 2010 version was missing.

I really liked this set, its just a shame how degraded the stickers have become :(

Trains normally not my thing but the red lamp post is intriguing.

@Khscarymovie - I guess Lego could have done better, since the 7750 steam locomotive already looked better in my opinion. And that was from the eighties.

@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman - indeed, well timed!

I have the 2010 version of this set... looking at the pictures of this one a little while ago, I was amazed how little, really, the engine's design had been changed even though there were nine years between the two sets. I like the version I have, sure, but when that fact is taken into account... its build starts to feel a little dated.

This year's in contrast, looks like a whole new thing, which is a nice change ^^

By in Portugal,

The new Hogwarts Express released this year is much better than this. LEGO evolved a lot in seventeen years.

Now if the newest one just used the carriages/ passenger car from this old set....
