Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random set is 6772 Alpha Team Cruiser, released in 2001. It's one of 6 Alpha Team sets produced that year. It contains 57 pieces and 1 minifig, and its retail price was US$7/£4.99.
It's owned by 1779 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Alpha Team came out square in the middle of my dark ages. Without any of the resultant nostalgia, I’ve never really felt the need to collect many of this theme, this set included. Not a bad theme...but they’ve done much better since with Ultra Agents.
I actually have this one! I got it on eBay. It was well before I collected system. I was probably still on duplo as I was only 4 at the time this came out lol. It's a decent set and the only one that I have that has this purple color. It's one of my favorite lego colors though! The model itself looks cooler if you fold the wings down to look like a jet. Alpha team is a neat concept as a theme though! Wish we had more in-house adventure themes! Seems like they're all being replaced with licenses these days, except for ninjago.
I always thought this was a jet. Then someone on the forums said it was a boat. What do you think, Brickset readers? I can't tell anymore.
@imatheso, I think it's supposed to be a vehicle that converts from one to the other.
I always thought it was a boat. I know they were oddly-designed and a bit ungainly, but I still have a soft-spot for the first theme of Alpha Team. I thought they were interesting.
It looks like kind of 'vehicle' I make when I've got a random selection of my kids Lego bricks to hand- I guess it's trying to impress the same target market!
I got given this set by ‘Santa Claus’ at a Christmas party I went to! That year I played with this set and Dash’s helicopter so much! Brings back happy memories!
This is one of the original Alpha Team sets I never got for some reason and I'm pretty bummed out about that, now that it's conspicuously missing from my display of my old themes.
The mini comic that came in the instructions sho s it going along water so it’s a boat not a plane. Had a hell of a time keeping it in one piece though
I prefer LEGO agents but LEGO alpha team is also a good theme.
I don't like the color scheme on this theme, nor the faces. Black vehicles are always cool though.
I don’t have too much nostalgia for the Alpha Team sets (in fact, I don’t think I got any of my own besides Ogel’s rocket sled), but I loved the cast of characters, at least their first-year designs. They were very well-defined in terms of their areas of expertise, their designs were nice and varied, and themes with two female characters in a core cast of six have never been common outside those that go out of their way to target girls.
Later years of Alpha Team unfortunately made a lot of really dubious design choices, like the Mission Deep Sea redesigns making many of the characters’ eyes further apart than a typical minifigure or in colors that didn’t contrast as well with their yellow faces, or the Arctic sets making Flex and Charge nigh-unrecognizable and introducing new characters with no clearly defined character traits.
For me Alpha Team will always equal this guy's face..

(But I mean that in a GREAT way.. If the Statue Of Liberty had that expression I would buy it..)
I remember the first year of Alpha Team being promoted in the in-set foldout brochures, but I never got into the theme until the next year, when Mission Deep Sea was heavily featured in the magazines. I ended up getting nearly all the MDS sets, but for some reason I had little to no interest in 2004 sets, even though the color scheme and transforming functions were pretty neat. I think by that time I was pretty heavily invested in both Star Wars and Bionicle, to the detriment of all other themes.
Back in the day, this set was REQUIRED parts for customized black X-Wing fighters.
I remember this set! Never owned it myself, but a friend of mine at the time had it, and I had the AT helicopter, so Dash and Radia sometimes went off on adventures together xD
I'm not sure I can say much for the set nowadays, though. But, like Aanchir above, I do love the minifigure designs - and, in hindsight, I'm a big fan of the theme having more than one girl on the team. Too bad that AT was the last system theme for a long while to have prominent female characters at all, though.
