This might have been one of the first sets to include metallic dark grey (early titanium metallic) parts.
It was very confusing to which of the Drome racing teams this car belonged to... Zero? Hot? Exo? I think a promo CD back then told it, but I can't remember it.
Not even a pull back motor?
@Lego.lord: Nope, this set’s gimmicks were that the cab/driver’s seat would eject in the event of a crash, and that it could be used with the slammers in sets like 8469-1 . It IS kind of weird that it didn’t include a slammer of its own…
@Atuin: This set went with the Exo Force Race Team. I agree LEGO could have made the team alignments of Racers sets a lot more obvious. It’s downright weird how much story detail Drome Racers had (from named characters with personality bios, clearly defined environments, etc), considering how little of it was clearly reflected in the sets…
Good set.
I mostly remember this set because it was one of the playable cars in the Drome Racers video game. Not one of the best to race as, granted, but far from the worst... because the worst was the one from set 8469, which had all the delicate handing of a *literal brick*.
@Aanchir - yeah, that's always been weird, about the story. I feel it's like... Lego came up with the sets first, then gave them to the story team and said 'here, make something coherent out of these'... which led to the many story details that weren't represented in the set design.
Actually, speaking of, do you know where the old Drome Racers comics may be found online? I was looking a few years back, but couldn't find any trace of them.
