Phenomenal set, This was ‘the’ Lego supercar for my generation. I still yearn for 8070, though...

This was the first set I bought in 2000 after my last set, the 8860 in 1980. Very nice set , lots of studded bricks and "real" Lego bricks. After that I bought the odd nice technic set. All our Lego (the kids and mine old Lego)was in storage waiting for our grandkids(maybe some day). In march 2016 our 16 year old got this 8448 set out again. And that got me going again. Got every super car now, including the two racer Ferraris.

By in Ireland,

Still the best of the Technic Supercars in my opinion. Built it again after the disappointment of the Porsche.

This thing screams 90s Technic.

Close to being my favourite of all time. Loved the modular build approach, box presentation and functionality. Doesn't need 3000 pieces to do it either!

One of the first sets I bought (second hand) when I got out of my dark ages :)

The 8448 was the set that brought me out of my dark ages.
I bought one from a Toys R Us store (long before that chain shut down their Australian operations) and my collection has been growing ever since.
IMO the neat sporty looking silver wheels in that set are the best larger-size Technic wheels LEGO have made (they look almost futuristic even now)

@FlagsNZ "The chassis is predominantly brick-built and very strong; brick-built chassis are significantly more rigid than modern Technic chassis." You've nailed it. If only LEGO could find even half of the studs lost from modern Technic and reattach them. A great review for a truly exceptional set. It's a pity the pistons are fragile and prone to fail. But for me the gearbox is a work of art. Thank you for sharing!

By in United States,

I got this in college--the guys and I hovered over it, looking at the inner workings just like my dad would have back in his day around a real car! Such a great set. 5 speed + reverse, steering, suspension, V8, the works.
